Q: REM - Losing My Religion was on the rolling credits

Florin MarksteinerI watched a movie back in 1990... and it was about a guy that kills someone [I think in prison...] Now the daughter of the guy that was killed wants to find out who did it and in her quest stumbles on the killer... which falls in love with her and joins her in the mission. It's a story with some ...

@NapoleonWilson Have you seen Alone in the Dark with Christian Slater?

@steelerfan I don't think so.

@NapoleonWilson Never mind, then :(

It's on Cinemax right now and there is nothing else on and I was going to watch just because of Christian Slater, but I got preoccupied anyways ;)

1:20 AM
Hmm, I'm at Joyride now, but I'm not sure if I should switch to Game of Thrones. I actually ought to go to bed some time anyway.

Joyride!! With Paul Walker?

But I have to publish that Revenant haiku, after you gave your blessing yesterday.
@steelerfan Yeah, it's pretty good. But I also have seen quite often already.

Haha! You were waiting for my blessing? That's too awesome!
@NapoleonWilson I frigging love that movie!! God dammit! You need to live closer so I can always come over and watch awesome movies!!! ;)

@steelerfan Um, not necessarily, but I didn't get around to it earlier. I mean, I should be honest. But your blessing certainly added to it, since I wasn't completely sure it's already as good as it can be.

@NapoleonWilson I honestly didn't think that you were waiting for my blessing, silly :)

1:25 AM
@steelerfan Indeed... <sigh> ...indeed I need...
It's more due to the fact that the site where I got my caption-less movie posters has gone full-paid and watermarky, so I had to think about how to circumvent that some how or find an alternative.

@NapoleonWilson Did you misspell "indeed" or do you need something?

@steelerfan the "need" was in reference to the "need" from the chat message this was a reply to.

@NapoleonWilson Well, I need to watch awesome movies with you too ;)

Argh! And now Wordpress does weird formatting. ;-(

,Haha! I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, but, sorry :(

The blog post is strangely formatted and now things aren't perfectly aligned. And I have no idea how to fix that or why it even happens.

You and me both!! Haha!
OMG!! Stay with me by the faces just came on the radio!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! Perfect song to listen to while reading my sister's smut book ;)

@steelerfan Oh, so you're the designated proofreader?

2:00 AM
@NapoleonWilson OMG. yes! I'm shocked!! ;)

@steelerfan Are you allowed to say what it's about?

@NapoleonWilson It's just a romance "novel" with graphic scenes. It's basically the story of her and my brother in law. I will never look at him the same again! Hehehe :)

@steelerfan But where is it set? Is it in some cool interesting place and time, like Nantucket Island during whaling times or something like that? Or is it really just the story of an aspiring teacher meeting a guy in the Oregon province?
(Oh god, which of course isn't meant in any way to devalue your sister's relationship or its romantic history! Sorry if it came across like this. I have the least authority to criticize anything there.)

@NapoleonWilson It's mostly set between letters and phone conversations when my brother in law was overseas before they were married, so the story is basically being separated and still staying in love and faithful to each other. It's actually really good.

@steelerfan But that really sounds like it could get uncomfortable for you. But well, wait till your father stumbles across it in the bookstores.
@steelerfan But where's the chance for graphicness when they're all faithful and separated? <yawn> ;-P

2:11 AM
@NapoleonWilson I highly doubt if anything will come of it. It doesn't make me too uncomfortable. My sister tells me everything, it's just different having it described in detail ;)

@steelerfan But granted, that sounds romantic indeed.

@NapoleonWilson Well, he comes home a few times in between. Good Lord! Yeah, that's where it's graphic! Whew! <fans face> ;)

Does she already have a publisher?

Oh, God no. She's just bored because she's not working right now, so she just decided to start writing this. She wanted their story written I guess, she honestly just doesn't have anything else to do with her time right now.

So she's not finished either yet? But does she plan to publish it? You say it's really good afterall.

2:27 AM
I have no idea if she plans on publishing it, I ask her the same thing and she always shrugs it off. I'm just reading it as she writes it. I already know how it ends, anyways ;)
I just happen to be on a part where they are physically together at the moment. covers eyes ;)

Granted. But that's still pretty cool that she's just writing a book about their story.

Yeah, my sister and brother in law are awesome. They are totally into each other, still :)

That sounds great, especially after all those years.

SarpSTAIn Prometheus, after figuring something bad is going on within her, Shaw goes to the medpod which earlier in the movie was described as "configured for male body" by Vickers . Yeah, it does, but I love them both so much, so I am just happy for them. But, yeah, I see what you're saying.

@steelerfan Partially, yeah. But also that you rarely have to feel alone in general when visting this chat.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, I don't feel alone when I'm here!! Well, maybe lastnight for a little while when nobody was around and nobody was around at my house either :'( I ended up going out with some friends because I was going crazy!! ;)

I don't think I've ever conciously seen that in full.

WHAT?!?! Aren't you a Chuck Norris fan? That's classic Chuck Norris!! Well, it just started, if you hurry, you can get over here and watch it!! Hehehe :)

@steelerfan I doubt I'll make it in time, though. :'(
@steelerfan I've admittedly not seen so much from Norris big era. I love Firewalker and Sidekicks. And I also faintly remember that one thing where he's after some kind of demon guy (Hellbound?). But I'll keep it in mind for sure.

@NapoleonWilson Haha! Dammit! Well, I am recording it on DVR because I was so excited that it was on! I don't want to blow the ending for you, but Chuck Norris fights along side a special "partner" OMG! It's sooooo 80's!!,
@NapoleonWilson YES!! Hellbound!! Nice!!

3:47 PM
So it's dinner at a steakhouse followed by Zoolander 2 for me and the wife tomorrow night for Valentine's Day, an early one anyway.

@steelerfan Oh, well, then you can keep it on DVR for me to watch it with you later. \o/

@MattD I'm going to see that today with my sister!!
@NapoleonWilson You got it, babe! :)
@MattD Do you and your wife exchange gifts for Valentine's Day?

Awww, it's the first V-day as a married couple! :D

@NapoleonWilson You haven't seen Missing in action or Delta Force? I have those on DVD!! Of course!!
@Catija Do you guys do anything?

@steelerfan Our nice night out last weekend was our thing. It's easier to get reservations, particularly since it was Super Bowl.

4:01 PM
@steelerfan I don't know right now. Maybe ages ago, but I don't really remember.

@Catija Oh, that's right! Is Andy excited about being a dad? That's like the best gift ever!!

Don't have anything planned for this weekend. Andy's Step brother is coming down from Dallas because his son has a concert on Saturday in San Antonio for the State Band performance. We're all going to go down and watch. He'll leave on Sunday but we don't have anything planned, really.
@steelerfan Andy is one of those guys who doesn't get excited about anything... it gets frustrating at times. We go on trips... no excitement... we buy fun toys... nothing... He always has fun but he doesn't "get excited".

@NapoleonWilson <adds to list of movies to watch with Napoleon>

@Catija Haha, that reminds me of someone...

@Catija Well, he is happy about being a father, isn't he?

4:05 PM
@steelerfan Yes. We were both sort of ambivalent but we're not upset or anything :D

@steelerfan We decided to just have a nice night out this year, though we have in the past. Since Christmas and the wedding wasn't all that long ago we didn't see much of a point.

@Catija WELL, I AM EXCITED!!!! :)))))

Plus, on the actual Valentines Day we'll be keeping an eye on her youth group kids (7th grade and up) as they help watch over 30 younger kids (2/3 of which are 5 and younger) while the parents of those little kids have a night out.

@MattD Yeah, I don't really do Valentine's day, I never have :)

@steelerfan Our "relationship anniversary" is a month later on March 14 anyway, so we'll likely do something small for one another then. Plus it's Pi Day.

4:07 PM
@steelerfan :D I'm glad. My mom recently started saying that she didn't want to be a grandmother... and so I was worried about telling her... but she's excited.

@Catija Oh, I had no idea you were expecting. Congrats.

@MattD Oh, I posted it... Tuesday... But I don't think you were around.
Thanks.

@MattD But only in the botched American date notation. ;-P

@NapoleonWilson You mean the One True Way?

@NapoleonWilson Not all Americans use it.
Our entire military uses the European method.

4:09 PM
The military also uses 24 hours notation, right? Now all they have to do is go metric!

@NapoleonWilson Yeah.

I use a 24 hour clock personally.

@Catija Wut? What mom actually says that? My mom is quite upset that she might not be one ever.

My phone is set to use it, as are all my computers save for my work machine because admin rights prevent me from changing it.

4:11 PM
@NapoleonWilson would a mod ever suspend a user at that user's request? Someone over in Mos is asking one of their mods to suspend their account so they don't get distracted from studying by using the site.
@NapoleonWilson Mine, apparently. She doesn't like "getting older". Anyway, we were never a big "the entire point of life is to have kids" family... it's really not been an issue... however... Andy's family is crazy breeders... they all have tons of kids.

@Catija Things like this have come up before, I think there was a recent post on meta. The consensus is, no, that's your responsibility and not what suspensions should be abused for.

Andy's mom was the one odd duck, only two kids.
Andy assumed it was sort of inevitable but he never seemed to have that need to do it "now"... if he had, I figure we'd have gotten there long before now. I mean, we've been together almost 10 years.

@NapoleonWilson WUT?? Don't you have siblings?

@NapoleonWilson When my brother and his wife found out they were pregnant (they were in the process of planning their wedding), they figured my parents would be the ones to blow up because they're fairly religious and her parents would be a bit shocked but supportive. Ended up being the complete opposite.

@steelerfan No, at least no biological ones.
But it's not that bad, she has other family members to possibly get that grandma satisfaction from and she doesn't really make any pressure.

4:16 PM
My wife's brothers likely won't ever have kids, so she always jokes (sort of) that she's her parent's last hope at ever having grandkids.

@NapoleonWilson Really? I thought you did. You're not getting pressured because you're not married! Just wait until you get married and everyone is on your case about it!!!!

@steelerfan Yeah, well, that marrying thing is another issue anyway.

@MattD Haha! Is she joking or hinring? ;)

@steelerfan I only have a quasi-step-brother and a few cousins.

@NapoleonWilson Really? Is your mom pressuring you to get married?

4:19 PM
@steelerfan It's not really a joke because it's likely 100% true her brothers will never have kids (or like 99.9999999%), but at the same time we both kinda want kids.

@MattD Well, I meant to say is your wife making hints? My tablet has a mind of it's own with auto-fill ;)

@steelerfan No, not really. She let's me live however I like. But it's not as if she (or other family members) wouldn't appreciate me finding someone.

@steelerfan Eh, not really. We've both discussed having kids well before marriage. She's older than me by 3 years, so it's really more a matter of if we're going to have kids, we don't have a whole lot of time to wait.
It'll likely end up being a mix of biological children and adopted. I'm sort of keen to having at least one kid that is biologically ours.
I'm also totally fine with adopting, but it's the sci-fi/science nerd in me that likes the idea of having at least one kid that's genetically half me.

@MattD Andy always wanted a clone of himself...

@Catija Ha!

4:23 PM
@NapoleonWilson Just tell them that you're going on vacation with a crazy American!! ;)

I've just always been intrigued by the idea of passing on genes and whatnot to future generations. When you think about it, if you never have kids of your own, you're the first member of your genetic line to not do so for thousands if not millions of years.
For whatever reason that happens, you are quite literally some kind of "end".

@MattD HAHA! I'm not sure I would want someone that's genetically half of me ;)
@Catija HAHA! That's awesome!!

One movie scene in particular that I like to reference is from Watchmen, where Dr. Manhattan realizes that Silk Spectre II's birth, a random event caused by millions of years of genetic causation, caused her to be born when she did, giving him something to actually care about.
It's sort of poetic in a way.
I literally never knew my wife until around this time 3 years ago when I contacted her on OK Cupid. By completely random chance, her existence is partially what I feel gave me a reason to keep going on a lot of what I was dealing with at the time.

I wouldn't want some of my parents genes. Well, my dad's genes, but I don't want any of my mother's traits.

2013 was a very shitty year for me in a lot of ways. She's about the only bright spot back then.

@MattD Awwwwww, I hope that you tell her that and not just us :))) that's like the sweetest thing you can say to her!! I wouldn't need a gift, if I were your wife, I would be happy with that sentiment alone!!! :)

@steelerfan I do now and then, in various ways.

@MattD GOOD!! :)))

When we celebrated 2 years of being in a relationship last year, she asked if our relationship had changed me in any way, and answered the same for herself. Told her that being with her caused me to want to better myself not just for myself anymore, but because I actually had someone else to care about, someone else that working hard actually mattered for.

She nearly cried in the restaurant.

Are you kidding me? I'm nearly crying right now!!
Sincerity. That's all we girls need!

4:31 PM
@steelerfan I do what I can.
Also, to swing things back to @NapoleonWilson, who I feel I stole attention from, don't worry about getting married or having kids. Do what you want to do because your mother doesn't live your life.

@MattD And that is amazing indeed.

@MattD It's ok, @NapoleonWilson and I are running off to get married when I am in Europe this fall ;)

@NapoleonWilson What would prevent a question from showing up in a review queue? That ID question never showed up for me and now cde is using the fact that it took forever to VTC as proof that the question is "ok".

@MattD I know, that's what I'm doing. And as said, she doesn't really make any pressure at all. But with 29 even someone who largely always considered himself "alone, not...lonely" starts to think about things and the future.
@Catija I don't really know. I think I did close it from the review queue. And thanks for the answer.

4:38 PM
@NapoleonWilson Sure. :)
Can you see when the first VTC was cast?

@NapoleonWilson You're still totally young!! My husband was a self-proclaimed bachelor and didn't get married until he was 34.

@NapoleonWilson I totally get that. I didn't have a girlfriend until I started dating my wife at the age of 27.

@steelerfan Andy and I got married when he was... 36

@Catija How long have you two been married?

@MattD It was a year in November... so like... 16 months or something.
Baby's due in August, so before we hit two years.

4:43 PM
Meh, anyway, I'm just worrying way too much about this stuff lately.

@Catija See, @NapoleonWilson!! :)

@Catija Gotcha. I'm an August baby so that makes me happy. Actually gives you something to look forward to in August.

Did the dup rules change?

@NapoleonWilson If it's any consolation, when I stopped worrying so much about being in a relationship or whether things would work out with a girl, things ended up working out with my wife.

@MattD I know! It's like the only month that doesn't have a holiday. But you have your birthday during summer break, so that could be sad, no birthday at school.
@Walt Why? Something happen?

4:44 PM
@Catija My teachers typically let kids with summer birthdays celebrate on their half-birthday, so in February for me.

@MattD I never worried at all, and things didn't work out, though, at least in this regard.

@MattD Awww, that's cute.

@Catija I keep getting this: "This question does not have an upvoted or accepted answer". I don't think it mattered before.

@NapoleonWilson Gotcha.

@MattD Wait. What? Your wife was your first girlfriend?

@Walt Oh, I actually just talked to Shog about that a couple of days ago. Only mods can dupe questions that don't have an answer... and, no, it's not new...

@Walt That was always the case, I think. Or maybe it only had to have some answer, I don't know. But there always had to be at least an answer.

@Catija A while back, I think. Certainly not today.

@Walt Hmmm.. I'm trying to figure out why I never saw it in the close queue.

@steelerfan Yeah, maybe because we're shy nerds hanging around in an anonymous internet chatroom about films... (speaking for myself at least)

@NapoleonWilson HAHA!! You always make things so cool when you say them :)

I suppose that if enough people vote "leave open" in a row, it leaves the queue?

@Catija Never understood how those queues qork anyway. They seem arbitrary

4:57 PM
@Catija When 3 people (or one moderator) vote "Leave Open" it's removed from the queue (the order doesn't matter, though).

[...Was about to fix 'qork' but it looks cute there :)]

@NapoleonWilson But, but, that's part of the reason I adore you so much :)

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I thought it was something like that. I don't know why people would vote to leave it open, though. It has a lot of dates but it doesn't have much of anything else.

@steelerfan In this day and age it really is quite rare.

@MattD It's going to get even more rare with how people "date" now... or should I say "hook up". It's crazy.

4:58 PM
@Walt It's quite easy actually. Flag or vote for closure, it enters the queue. Get it closed or 3 times "left open" it leaves it again. Same for the Reopen queue (just that an edit on a still "on hold" question puts it into that queue, too).

@Catija Reason often goes out the window when it comes to ID
@NapoleonWilson Thanks. Haven't eaten anything in hours so I can't process this, but it'll make sense later ;)

@Walt Yeah, but people are usually pretty anti-ID... so it seems odd that it would get three "leave open" votes.
