Hey, I'd put Topher Grace on a one-way trip to space too
(Looking at the cast)

@Walt Meh, I liked him in Spider-Man 3 as well as the whole movie (flag as offensive now!). And I also liked this thing where he plays a young business guy becoming the boss of Denis Quaid.

John Lithgow?! For the 2010 references?

@Walt Was he in 2010? I've only seen this once a long time ago (but you mean this pseudo sequel of 2001 with Roy Scheider, do you?).

Yeah
You're safe. I just thought Spider-Man 3 was a bad movie. But if a Spider-Man fan comes around, run

Or it may be a reference to 3rd Rock from the Sun. ;-)
For this it would have been great to recast J. G. Levitt from The Dark Kngiht Rises.

12:06 AM
With a French Stewart post-credit cameo in his fuzzy coat instead of HowardTD!
These things write themselves
May have to vanish for a few days, but I'll think of a good trailer question in the meantime

@Walt Remember to revisit all the ID-questions afterwards (if they don't get closed).

sure, they're my raison d'etre here :)

@Walt g'night!
Damn, now it's already UTC next day since a few minutes. So I can only ask a one of my two possible GotG questions if I'm seriously after the Socratic-badge (and cred-hungry as me, I of course am). I should just have asked it an hour ago.

Q: Could someone explain the Kevin Bacon joke in Guardians of the Galaxy?

HeisenbergThere was a moment in the movie when Starlord told a joke about Kevin Bacon to convince his partner to dance. My fellow moviegoers laughed heartily but I, being a non-US person, missed the joke completely. Could anyone explain the joke, starting with who Kevin Bacon is in real life?

Q: Why is it winter in Laketown?

LiathIn the Desolation of Smaug it generally seems to be summer. Even up on the lonely mountain (which I'm assuming is a fair height given the views) there's no snow. Why then does it appear to be winter in Lake Town which is only a short distance from the mountain but much lower? Is there some other...

Q: Are Star-Lord's final words a reference to something else?

Napoleon WilsonAfter watching Guardians of the Galaxy and Peter Quill's final words: What should we do next? Something good? Something bad? A bit of both? a friend of mine meant that he thinks to know this quote from somewhere else, but wasn't sure where, some Western maybe. I first thought he might just ...

@MovieReel now you started saying shit in a language which most of us don't understand.
Anyways Telugu is too tough and straight translation is also very tough

1:24 PM
@ChristianRau Topher Grace isn't a bad actor, but I don't think he's quite capable of carrying or helping in carrying a film, let alone a huge summer tentpole like Spider-Man 3. He wasn't bad, it was the script that was bad coupled with Rami feeling like he had the rug pulled out from under him, which he did.

I think i am the alone one who think spider man 3 was not that bad.

1:52 PM
Am I the only one who finds it confusing that we have two Ankits now? ;D

@AnkitSharma No, you aren't.
@atticae At least SE find it confusing, too.
@AnkitSharma If you speak Telugu, do you also speak Tamil?

2:54 PM
@ChristianRau i can't speak telugu and tamil. Both are very tough for my mind.
@atticae even i am getting ping for othera ankit
@ChristianRau anyways that dan dana dan naka sound like a song to me. Not sure
Anyways that dan dana dan naka is not related to Ramayana for sure.

3:16 PM
@AnkitSharma Saying soemthing, "Isn't that bad," means you're still saying it's bad. :P

hehehheheh......but still it better then new amazing spidey shit
Venom was underused in spiderman 3 and killed too soon

First new Spider-Man showed some promise, the second one was a massive step backwards and yes, probably worse than Spider-Man 3.

@AnkitSharma Oh, that I would not sign, love Andrew Garfield.

@AnkitSharma Venom was never supposed to be in Spider-Man 3. Sony forced Rami to add him.

And there are rumor sony is the reason for ruining amazing spider man 2

3:18 PM
@MattD Oh, didn't know that. But a Spider-Man trilogy without Venom? That's impossible (which is probably what Sony thought, too).

Amazing spider man was full of too much shitt , gwen's death not played that impact and new goblin sucks
@ChristianRau venom need time and 3rd part was too soon for it.

@ChristianRau Here's the thing though: Rami delivered the first two Spider-Man films, which were among the highest grossing summer films at the time. Why on earth would you tell the guy who made you rich he has to do what you want him to do and can't keep doing what he wants to do?

^ agreed by dozen times

Spider-Man 4 fell through because Rami told Sony he wanted final say in both the script and editing of the film. Sony agreed, then started to backslide when production started so Rami told them to fuck off and left the project. They'd planned to reboot the franchise after 4 so they just moved those plans up.
Shit, even Warner Bros. wasn't that dumb. Nolan told them he'd do TDKR if they let him do Inception, and Warner Bros. was all sure man, no problem. They ended up with two massive hits as a result.

Rami's rumored plan for mysterio and female vulture was great but they never seen light.

3:22 PM
Well, sure. For me the whole Maguire-trilogy has absolutely no rewatchability. I watched them all when they were released and enjoyed all of them pretty much. But for the life of me when they're on TV I always think "meh, don't I have something better to do?". But I can't really say what the specific reason is for this.

@MattD the problem is only with studio like Sony and fox. Disney and warner brother give freedom to director.....which is good thing to do

@ChristianRau Well I feel that way in general as I've gotten older. I've been watching That 70s Show on Netflix for several months, but only one or two episodes a night before I go to bed. I can't justify binging a show I've watched before.

It's possibly just beatboxing\scatting. A lot of online references jokingly say it's very T. Rajendar-esque. So maybe this Youtube video would help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvz0Dcf6jLc
(Not putting it up as an answer as I know next to nothing about this genre)

@AnkitSharma Eh, Fox has been doing well with the latest X-Men movies though. They seem to have learned their lesson.
Sony just needs to fucking quit and sell Spider-Man back to Marvel.

@MattD Sony have delayed their spider man 3...they might get some idea this time but 3 spinoff planning is too much

3:25 PM
Yeah, I saw that. Kinda made me laugh.

@MattD Oh, I can, but like every interest in my life, it doesn't hold much longer than 1-2 weeks anyway, so I have to binge if I want to make it.

Anyway, watch it all the way through, he references 'dandanaka' around 1:22

@Walt i also got the T. Rajendar-esque link few minute back.
Anyways i am not into south indian films much. I can't understand them and translated version sucks

Anyone else see that image for Marvels movie plans through like 2019?

^ i am waiting for planet of hulk, she hulk and red hulk arc...if they make
Lol too hulkish

3:28 PM
Here's the image if no one saw it: mobilelikez.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/marvvv.jpg
I cry at the thought of not seeing another Guardians movie for three years. :'(

@MattD someone said that its fake.

Well shit.

Idea of sivil war without x-men and spider man is shitty idea

@AnkitSharma Though, if you speak Hindi, they simultaneously filmed another version of that one that you could watch.

@ChristianRau i know that version but got bored after 15 minutes. Didn't watched tamil version for even a second....so cant say anything about it.

3:32 PM
It honestly boggles my mind. Marvel properties are scattered everywhere and yet they've been really awesome in recent years. Warner Bros. has full access to everything DC, and they just seem to be putting out turds.

@MattD Oh, three years? Yet another Star Wars reference?

@MattD DC stepped back by making there tv series non-related to movie verse.
I mean they lost the way to elaborating there character more

@AnkitSharma That's the thing though. DC is damn good at making TV shows. I'm getting caught up on Arrow, and both Flash and Gotham look awesome. Young Justice was great and it's a damn shame it was cut down in its prime.
Agents of SHIELD has been garbage though.

@MattD agent of shield is good but not as arrow....i lost arrow in the middle....need to watch it soon. Gotham is really impressive to me.

I've honestly preferred TV shows based on comics due to their episodic nature. You can't get huge arcs with a movie, at least not as easily.
I read yesterday that Netflix has already bought the rights to stream Gotham, and the show hasn't even aired yet. $1.75 million per episode.

3:36 PM
@MattD Oh, I enjoyed Arrow, didn't get Flash yet. But what is Gotham gonna be about?

But TV series skips thing due to budget

@ChristianRau Well Flash hasn't premiered yet. It starts up on October 8th here in the US, same day as season 3 of Arrow.

@ChristianRau gotham is about gotham without batman
I mean a small boy name bruce is there after his parents death

@ChristianRau Gotahm will be about the days of Gotham before Batman, mostly following Jim Gordon around. Confirmed villains are Penguin, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman.
Basically it's how Gotham City came to be the Gotham City that Batman works to protect/fix.

3:38 PM
Gotham is probably the show I'm most stoked about. Totally willing to admit it's because I'm a bigger fan of Batman.

I loved the idea of ripping batman and looked brave attempt to me.

Oh, and there's also a show based on Constantine coming out. DC will have 4 properties on TV starting this year.

Constantine trailer is ok ok but i will surely going to watch it

Yeah, looks like it could be good but I'm not entirely sure about it yet. Some of the images look damn terrifying for a prime time TV show, though.

I am die heart DC fan and love to see more of DC

3:40 PM
Same here, but DC is really pissing me off lately. Both in terms of film and comic book production.

@MattD (Speaking as a TV buff) AoS keep leaking the actors joining season 2 like that matters. It'll only improve if one person joins the staff, but he's busy making blockbusters. Being promised a Whedon show and getting his dimwitted brother instead is a bit like going to Kamp Krusty and getting Barney in a crappy clown costume.

@Walt I fucking love that analogy.

I contemplated going with 'Jeb Bush' but gave that up ;)

Marve is also coming with daredevil, luke cage, jessica jones and defender on series
I forgot agent carter to mention

Yeah, a couple of those are Netflix shows. It'll be interesting to see how those pan out.

3:43 PM
@AnkitSharma Oh my, only know Daredevil from this list (from the infamous Ben Affleck movie).

Doctor Strange is the other Netflix show from Marvel.

@ChristianRau daredevil, luke cage, iron fist, jessica jones will make the group called defender .\
@MattD not listed here
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) television series are American superhero television shows, based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. The shows have been in production since 2013, and in that time Marvel Television, along with ABC Studios, has premiered one series, with six more in development. By July 2012, Marvel began considering expanding to television after the positive response to Marvel's The Avengers, with the series that eventually became known as Marvel's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. By September 2013, Marvel was once again developing another series due to positive...

@AnkitSharma If Agent Carter will be set in the 40s that'll be interesting. Found it a pity that we only got a single Captain America movie in WWII.

Huh, apparently they decided to make it a movie instead.

I am more interested in daredevil and defender only....will skip others. Even agent carter....not into ww2stuff
@MattD @Walt @ChristianRau any words for Hemlock Grove?? Thinking to watch it.

3:48 PM
@AnkitSharma What's that at all?

netflix horror tv series

Oh, I see, well, I don't have Netflix and ordinary TV stuff takes a year at best to reach me, so I don't know anything about it.

seen its trailer on youtube recomendation yesterday and looked interesting
Why forest gump got re-release?
Where is Tyler? Gone again?

@AnkitSharma Well, it's only a week, might very well just be a vacation.

3:56 PM
Though it is a bit unusual for a moderator to visit meta with a 2-month frequency only. But fortunately the site keeps working still.

Where is graduation? I thought to nominate you for election but its not happening yet.

@AnkitSharma Nevermind, that's not going to happen in the near future anyway. I said it once and I don't hesitate to say it again, SE's design team doesn't work fast enough.

hehehehhe....agree

@AnkitSharma Never really watched it because everyone says it's awful. From the bits I did randomly see, it does seem bad.

Thinking to pic some small tv series....suggestion needed

4:00 PM
@AnkitSharma True Detective, 8 episodes only, but absolutely amazing.

@ChristianRau Seconding that motion

diner break....catch u all later......

@AnkitSharma Ah, so Operation Dinner Out is a GO?

If there was one worthy winner at the recent Emmys, it was Cary Fukunaga

@Walt Oh, when were they? I always thought they were around the time of the oscars, but it seems they were just recently. Didn't read anything about them in the TV guide, but they used to air them, would have liked to sit through some gala sunday night.

4:05 PM
Sorry for the spoiler then
Aired last Monday, I think

@Walt Well, if they're over, they won't be aired anyway. I just wondered how I could miss them (or they suddenly stopped to air them, well, I guess there's not many people to waste their Monday 2-6 am this way, so they maybe thought it doesn't pay).

Yeah, a couple of jokes were about the Monday thing
You didn't miss much, really

@AnkitSharma I haven't watched it, but as Walt has said I haven't really heard good things about it. They gave it a second season, but I'm not sure if they green lit that early or not.

@MattD They just picked up a 3rd season, actually, but it'll be the last one.

Q: How were the others able to handle the power of the stone?

Bobby AlexanderI understand that Peter Quill was able to handle infinity stone without destroying himself possibly because his father is a (powerful?) alien of an unknown species. But how were the other Guardians of the Galaxy able to handle the power of the stone?

@AnkitSharma Oh shiiiiiiit, OH SHIIIIIIIIT that has me so excited right now. Holy hell that's fantastic news.

don't know much about shazam (captain marvel) story but love to see it in live action

But I'm glad after some weeks the GotG questions finally start rolling. C'mon, we can beat Science Fiction & Fantasy! ;-)

Q: 80s horror movie about a video rental store

devnullI vaguely remember a horror movie where the plot involved a video rental store where people would rent horror movies only to find out that the movies were real events that were videotaped or something like that. Does anyone know the movie I am talking about?

I can definitely recommend both Largo Winch movies, excellent action thrillers. Like the James Bond of international business politics.
