I find it suspect that his mom felt Gollum was demonic, but apparently had no issues with the Uruk-hai, the Nazgul, or Sauron himself. She's really going to have a tough time with those ghost men under the mountain in Return of the King....

Hey, @ChristianRau, remember when we were talking about a "de-remastered" version of Star Wars? It's only the first film, but some fans managed to make it happen. It's insane what they went through to get it done. youtube.com/watch?v=dHfLX_TMduY

I'm sure they've done the whole trilogy
or someone has, at least
Ah, found em: Empire and Jedi

Q: I need to know the name of this movie

JimI watched this movie way back in 2004 or 2005 .Its like a fictional biography of a movie actress+comedy+tragedy. The plot goes like this. The movie is about an actress's life.It shows how she goes mentally sick as she climbs up in her popularity. An imaginary woman is always around her ,which h...

Yeah, I've heard of them before, but didn't bother to look further (since I didn't ever have too much fondness for this whole original-whining, maybe because I didn't ever seen the true originals but only the '97 versions). "Wah wah, give me back this other old guy that apears for 3 seconds as a ghost and whom I don't know either, meesa no likes Hayden Christensen!"
But to each his own, certainly an interesting fan project. They even have the original dubbing tracks. Maybe this way I can check if that strange dubbing effect in Bespin I always wonder about exists in the original, too.
Oh my, this sequel gap thing and its stupid example answers really start to cost reputation.

Q: Where does the "One of us! One of us!" chant originate?

billpgI've seen the chant "One of us! One of us!" parodied in both South Park and Big Bang Theory. Where does it come from? Is "Gibble Gobble Gibble Gobble" (added by South Park) part of the original chant?

Q: Why is Alan Moore's name not shown on the Watchmen credits?

ShevliaskovicI was recently re-watching the Watchmen movie, when on the opening credits I noticed that Alan Moore was not credited, but only Dave Gibbons, who was the artist. Why isn't Alan Moore's name (the writer of the comic) not displayed on the credits?

@MovieReel What the? I just thought about this movie for entirely different reasons. Coincidence or telepathy?

@ChristianRau Eh, there are certain edits I can definitely agree with the fans as being stupid, the edit to make Hayden Christiansen the ghost being one of them. That's party why machete order exists now, because if you have someone watch the original trilogy and they see Hayden as the ghost with no context for who he is, it just ruins things now. That change was completely unnecessary.

@MattD Yeah, but George Lucas certainly wants you to watch them all in (in-universe) chronological order anyway.
But I agree that from a story-telling standpoint it's still questionable to take the 20 years younger self and not the one that died (Obi-Wan wasn't adjusted either).

Q: Need help identifying made-for-tv movie

Ryan JSo I recall watching a movie in the early part of the century, around 2000-2003. I believe it was a tv movie, but I have no idea what it was called. The only parts I remember are there being a woman bound in the baggage section of the plane (they're trying to find her for part/most of the movie)....

One might reason that he rather wanted to show Anakin and not Vader, the father and not the guy that "killed" him. But then one could also reason that Vader was redeemed at the end and thus became Anakin again.
I guess the reason was more along the lines that he wanted to use the guy that people got to know as Anakin for the major course of 2 entire movies, instead of a guy nobody knew for more than a minute anyway. But he didn't dare to do that to Alec Guiness, seeing that he was a much more prominent character throughout the original trilogy (especially Episode IV). This might be related to George Lucas likely seeing the movie as telling the story of Anakin more than anyone else.

Q: 80's or 90's movie

JackI only watched the beginning of this movie, and i was some time ago(around 10 years), so I'll try to be as coherent as i can In 10 minutes that i watched there were 6 characters: Guy1, Guy2, BabyKid, Kid, Kid's Girl and Guy3(let's call him Poor Bastard) Movie starts with Guy1 walking toward churc...

2:06 PM
The problem I have, though, is that IV, V, and VI aren't really stories about Anakin, as they're mostly focused on Luke. Lucas can go on all he wants about his desired order for people to watch things in, but even then I still don't feel it justifies the edit at the very end of Jedi. Feels very hamfisted and comes off as more of a, "Because I can," edit rather than being meaningful.
I mean we're also talking about a guy who feels Episode V is the worst of the original trilogy.

@MattD Haha, did he really say that?

Can't find anything in a quick Google search, but I know I've read it several times over the years.

2:24 PM
Anyway, for someone making such a loved contribution to modern movie fan culture, he's certainly much hated for doing anything further with it at all. But he's given up responsibility for his own creation anyway (for better or worse).

2:41 PM
It's the fact that he made something so loved and so profound to the movie industry, then he goes and adds a bunch of bullshit changes that didn't need to be made. I mean he even has the sound of Jar Jar saying, "WEESA FREE," at the very end of Jedi during the celebration thanks to an added flyover shot of Naboo, which was added for the Blu-ray releases in 2011.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not frothing at the mouth like most Star Wars fans are, but the prequels were definitely fairly weak compared to the original trilogy, and so many of the changes made to the original 3 are simply not necessary. I mean even Spielberg backed off with the Blu-ray release of E.T. after he had the shotguns the cops were holding during the final chase edited to be walkie-talkies for the 2002 DVD release.

3:00 PM
Yeah, I'm not taking any position either, just making an interesting cultural observation. I've always observed all this fan-fuss rather neutrally, having enjoyed all the 6 major Star Wars movies so far.

I have fans who hated the prequels so much they have never bought them on home video. The Blu-rays came out? They bought the original trilogy set only. I have the complete saga set. Then again I also got the shop I bought it from to let me use a 50% off coupon to pre-order it, which is something they shouldn't have let me do. >:)

At least I'm interested to see what the sequel trilogy will be like, and have the best hopes given the circumstances. But for someone who's always been a big Star Wars fan I'm surprisingly less hyped for it, though. Yet, not because I fear it'll be bad, maybe just because my interest tends to have worn off, but maybe that'll change when the release gets nearer. By the way, what is the current release timeframe for Episode VII anyway?

Episode VII is scheduled for release on December 15, 2015. I suspect that we may get some sort of vague trailer towards the end of this year, but if anything we'll start getting more solid details with the big spring movies next year.
That's about the extent of my knowledge for Episode VII so far. The only other thing I know is the casting information, and that Harrison Ford injured his foot/ankle on-set. I'm steering clear of all information regarding possible story lines and plot points until I start seeing trailers that actually confirm anything. I want to know as little as possible about the movie outside of the inevitable trailers.
Correction, December 18.
Funny story about the prequel films that I just remembered: they had to tell Ewan McGregor to stop making the sounds of his lightsaber during battles. I really feel that of all the people they cast for roles in the prequel, his was easily the best. Watching behind the scenes videos it seemed like he was like a kid in a candy store while filming, truly just having the time of his life.

Q: What kind of car is Sinbad driving?

Dan BissDuring the opening credits of Houseguest, Sinbad is driving a very small car. What kind of car is it?

@MovieReel I so want to say this is trivia. Pointless, pointless trivia.

@ChristianRau I know what you mean, I can't believe there are so many upvotes on the answers which are shorter than the ones mentioned in the question
And I can't believe I missed all the Star Wars chat
Have you guys seen the Mr. Plinkett reviews of them? They're absolutely hilarious and basically sum up everything that's wrong with the movies so thoroughly I was shocked how little I actually picked up on
@MattD Did you watch that short video JJ Abrams made on the Tatooine set? It was for some charity but they were basically showing off how they're actually going to use practical effects which is great news

1 hour later…
6:57 PM
@MrLore Yes, I've seen those reviews. Every single one of them is gold. No, I haven't seen that video. I know they're going to use more practical effects, but to that same end I'm wanting to keep my overall exposure to a minimum. I want to feel surprised again when I go to a movie. That's why I loved Guardians of the Galaxy so much: I knew nothing about them going in, and thus had no preconceived notions.

Ah I see
I don't completely trust JJ Abrams though after what he did to Star Trek, so I'm keeping an eye on everything I can find to decide whether or not I'll go see it

Q: Internet Video Internet Metal Pen Pals?

OrionDarkwoodNot sure if this is the right area, but I don't think there is any internet video sections. I watched a internet movie years ago (2000 - 2007 I think) where the following happened Opening is creepy guy (Main character) typing on the computer in a small dark room, he orders a creature Mail shows...

7:48 PM
@MrLore If anything I feel you should have more trust in Abrams with Star Wars if you didn't like what he did to Star Trek. Seems the world of Wars would be far more suited to his style in terms of both writing and directing.
All I know is he's the luckiest damn nerd in the entire universe, getting to revive/continue two iconic science fiction/adventure franchises.

Yeah, his Trek definitely had the Wars feeling to it with nothing being adequately explained, but it just felt like such a hollow copy that I'm worried Wars will be the same
Sure the characters names will be right, but will every other line be something lifted from one of the original films to pander to fans?
And arguably Prometheus counts too as that carried on the Alien franchise, but I never saw that

8:18 PM
I felt Prometheus was just okay. Grand vision that just got kinda muddied.
Penny Arcade had a pretty funny take on one of the dumber aspects of the final action sequence. art.penny-arcade.com/photos/i-LZg3Rz5/0/1050x10000/…

Someone runs away from an alien that rolled down a hill?

9:54 PM
More like giant alien ship crashes and rolls, but rather than doing the logical thing and running perpendicular to the thing rolling towards them (in a completely open space), they run directly ahead of it.

Ahh, I thought it was a giant alien head
What is it with sci-fi races making everything look like themselves?

10:38 PM
@MrLore Well, at least this time no-one can accuse him of making it too "starwarsy" (or at least not in a negative way).

We will if he re-releases a new version with updated graphics a few years later ;)

Well, Prometheus surely wasn't the milestone everybody expected, but it was still better than the general opinion about it (well, I find myself quite often thinking that, maybe I'm just too merciful a critic, but it works for me). The style and atmosphere was amazing and Fassbender's David, too. That character was more fascinating than all the pseudo-philosophical Engineer stuff.
Whoa, new Interstellar trailer, I'm really looking forward to that movie.

Oooh, both Nolans, that should be interesting

"There are already other answers with proven, longer periods of time. Please refrain from making additional answers that amount to nothing more than a list of answers." - Thank god finally someone dares to speak it out. I already edited the question to reflect that. This whole thing has already cost me 7 of my precious rep and I don't see that changing (well, maybe when it's off the Hot Questions list).

Yeah, I was considering making a meta post about it but seeing as I had an answer there I thought it would sound like I just wanted rid of the vote competition
We should definitely get some kind of very strong suggestion put down that you shouldn't bother answering unless it's at least better than any examples in the actual question
And frankly, I wouldn't even considering answering unless I had one which beat all the other answers, but I don't know if we can really say that

Is the StackExchange database only updated at UTC midnight?

No but really complex tasks are only performed late at night, like Low quality detection, tag top users and complex badges
Why, what happened?

@MrLore Nothing really, I'm just waiting for my Generalist badge.

Oh, we actually can't unlock that badge yet
Sites don't award it until there are at least 200 questions in the top 40 tags
Jeff Atwood on May 22, 2010

After a whopping 18 month gestation, we’ve finally implemented the Generalist badge.

The Generalist badge works as follows:

Provided non-wiki answers of 15 total score in 20 of the top 40 tags.

The top 40 tag list is surprisingly diverse across the entire Trilogy. Just check out the top 40 tags (as of this writing) on Stack Overflow:

One thing the badge doesn’t say, is that there must be at least 200 questions in all 40 of the top tags before this badge is awarded to anyone. That’s why you won’t see it on meta for a bit longer, or any new sites for about a year. I don’t feel you can accurately measure a generalist until the top tag list settles down. …

@MrLore Aww, really? You mean each of the top 40 tags needs 200? Bah, that's gonna take ages. What crap.
Well, in this case they'll surely award a bunch when this finally happens, which will probably be in some 5 years, given the title tag policy.

Yeah there are a few complaint threads about it on meta, only something like 10 sites on the network have it
Haha yeah, and by then I think only Walt will have it because they'll all be genres, languages and identify-this-hologram tags :P
