@hxd1011 I like your new question and I've voted to re-open it.

@whuber @Glen_b On Meta, MichaelChernick says that he heard that there will be a mod election next month (April 2017). I am wondering, is it true?

@amoeba It's news to me. Usually you'd expect that a moderator would have heard something, so unless I missed some information somehow, I don't think so.
There is periodically discussion about possible elections and I think there may have been a few brief words last year in response to a question from CMs about whether one might be needed but I don't recall any concrete mentions of any dates for us to have one at that time and I don't think I've seen anything since.

@amoeba In the past, the SE team has contacted the mods asking whether an election would be suitable and if so to suggest how many positions to fill. To date they have not contacted us.

@amoeba There were elections in March 2011 (electing chl whuber, mbq), October 2013 (electing Peter Flom and cardinal) and March 2015 (Scortchi and myself); i.e. gaps of about two and a half years and then about a year and a half; there's no fixed schedule.
If some moderators were to step down or something like that, it would likely prompt an election (and that could happen any time). Of course, as the site grows, there would at some point be some need for an election eventually in any case. If there was a strong feeling from the broader community that one was needed for whatever reason, that would be a reason for us to ask for one.

@Glen_b Many thanks for the bounty on my mode estimation problem! Much appreciated.

@Nick My pleasure. I'd have let it run the full time in the hopes of eliciting an upvote for the post in the last day or so of the bounty period but I feared I might forget to award it.
I've been a bit lax about bounties lately. Haven't been giving as many as I was.
In my spare time just lately I'm having fun with nomograms.
