@billinkc at one point i believe i understood you to have been working on some sort of web scraper to pull sql server build numbers. what was the outcome of that project?

Such an annoying inconsistency :
Point is constructed as X,Y
But displayed as Y,X :
DECLARE @g geography;
SET @g = geography::Point(47.65100, -122.34900, 4326)
SELECT @g.ToString(); -- same as SELECT @g.STAsText()

--Result:
POINT (-122.349 47.651)

6:45 AM
Curiously, it doesn't do that with geometry:
DECLARE @g geometry;
SET @g = geometry::Point(47.65100, -122.34900, 4326)
SELECT @g.ToString(); -- same as SELECT @g.STAsText()

--Result:
POINT (47.651 -122.349)
Or maybe it depends on the third argument. My experience with either geography or geometry is next to nothing.
I did well in school, though.

Interesting...

@AndriyM I see colour differences in other persons' pics, too. Perhaps some new SO feature?

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Haven't heard anything about that. (Not that I'm a very diligent reader of meta, of course.)

Q: what can I do to get my deserved badged on a closed question?

marcello miorelliI have a question that has been closed due to being too narrow, or too specific. I believe many people will benefit from that question when having to deal with arithmetic overflow in sql server, and it may or may not be considered too specific. This question now is reached 2,5 K views and ins...

Q: Why did my avatar change?

barronMy network-wide gravatar identicon used to be a pleasant blue, now it's bright green. I didn't change my email. Did Stack Exchange change its email hashing algorithm or something?

Very quiet in here today...

@Phil very quiet in here lately

@Lamak it sure is. Feels like the cool kids are playing somewhere else.

@MaxVernon even the class clown is mostly missing

@Lamak clown?
you mean @billinkc
?

1:33 PM
@MaxVernon that's what I said
@MaxVernon and yes, I do

lol
@Lamak what part of Chile are you in?

Santiago

I've always wanted to visit Santiago, what's the weather like in January/February?

@MaxVernon summer
so....hot
If you ever come to chile, do let me know

@Lamak I figured it would be summer, but I guess hot could be 25°C or 40°C
depending on what you call hot. :-)
@Lamak I will!

1:40 PM
@MaxVernon right. Lately it's been weird, but I would say between 25°C to 34°C (but most likely around 29-30°C)

I have a friend who lives in northern Brazil; it's 32°C to 34°C all the time.
@Lamak so pretty much perfect then. what's the temp like now?

@MaxVernon yup, we don't have a tropical weather. It's a dry hot
if you can call it that

@Lamak nice. high humidity can be tiring.

today we are having a a minimum of 4°C and a maximum of 21°C. Weird days
@MaxVernon yes, I can't stand it very well

@Lamak wow, I never expected you to say a low of 4. Do you see snow ever?

1:44 PM
@MaxVernon well, it is winter. But we are having a flow of hot air that's rising a little the maximum
In Santiago we see snow very rarely
but in other parts of chile its very common

It sounds like quite an idyllic place to me.

@MaxVernon it's great for me. Chile being the long country that it is, it has a wide range of weathers. North is dry and hot almost all year, and going to the south, it gets increasingly colder, snowy and green

@Lamak for me, that's one of the really compelling features about Chile - the wide range of latitude. Plus, it seems like recently (the last 15 years, perhaps more) have been pretty good, politically. The country seems to have a great health-care system, etc.

Wife had hip replacement surgery yesterday (injured it 19 years ago and it finally got to the point where she was ready to replace) so I'm a wee distracted
The only redeeming factor for Chile is they grow delicious Bosc pears

@billinkc ouch - best wishes for Mrs KFC!
@MasterDatabase I'm going to vote to re-open this; I guess it would be a very easy question to answer, and will (apparently) help a lot of people.

1:54 PM
I've got some chickens waiting in the cooler

@billinkc also, "torres del paine" dude
@billinkc (best wishes)

@Lamak That doesn't look edible

@billinkc so..."completo"..."chorrillana"?

Holding back on me? Why don't I get a chacarero
^^^ That was a really nice question

@billinkc hey, good that you know about them. Maybe a "chemilico" too

2:08 PM
I'd have to change my name to Gordo Rey if I visited Chile

seems to fit you

I'm a little disappointed that Spanish doesn't have a cool word for prince - príncipe doesn't excite me. Conde, barón, etc just don't sound exotic enough

@billinkc Duque?

That would be perfect for my immature self
dookie is a slang term for poop

lol. But it's pronounced as "doo" + "ke" (like keratin or something)

2:18 PM
I'm a murican, I will slaughter your language with the careless indiscretion we show towards all that aren't us

@Lamak Have been concentrating on filling out a government tender (is that even correct), boy is that tiresome

@TomV I have no idea what a government tender is
@billinkc ah, yeah, the "Ryan Lochte" effect, so to speak

@TomV ah, yeah, that sucks

@Lamak Swim Shady

Oh, our first socratic badge is due real soon now

3:19 PM
nevermind, @billinkc ... i made my own scraper
in powershell

I'd rather see a scalper written in PS

@TomV -lol. "oh socratic seeker, why do you have so many questions?"
ahh, yes, only 5 questions to go.
In software development, the term for this is 'product owner' or 'business owner'. — JimmyJames 21 hours ago
