@FaheemMitha Not sure I follow what you're asking. Its not unusual to break a large load into smaller batches but you should drop constraints, run your batches, add constraints. Not drop/add within each batch.
 
@MarkStorey-Smith Right, that's what I thought. dropping and adding constraints seems pretty time-consuming, though I have not measured it.
I'm not sure how long the COPY itself takes, but that seems relatively fast.
For some reason I thought of loads was a good idea, and wen to a lot of trouble to implement it. No idea what I was thinking.
