@Catija Lemon curd mixed with cream cheese works (+ a little powdered sugar)

@Jolenealaska I mix that with whipped egg whites to make lemon mousse.
Assuming cream cheese is like mascarpone.

it is

Egg whites make it deliciously fluffy.
And you can fill a tart with it if you so desire.
Too bad my oven has broken down.

:(
@Cerberus got a drawer, some foil and a heat lamp? ;p

@JourneymanGeek Hah.
The grill part still works, though, as does the microwave part.
But not the oven part.

@Jolenealaska Hmmmm. Sounds good... Also gives me something to do with my egg yolks. :D Um... even parts or just a little cream cheese?

eh...it's one of those "wing it" things. Depends on your curd and your mood I guess.
I've also mixed curd with buttercream - same just winging it

Ah. Makes sense. I guess the idea is to get the texture you want.
I'm actually going to make cream cheese frosting for cupcakes... maybe I'll make the curd and double the frosting recipe and use the frosting in conjunction with the curd.
That will make less work in the end, I bet.

Sounds perfect, careful not too sweet. I've made that mistake.

Yeah, I like less sweet frostings anyway, so that won't be a problem (hopefully)... plus the tartness will balance it to some degree.

Oh yeah. One time I did half of the shells yellow, half green. Each cookie got one of each. I wanted to do a swirl of lemon/lime filling, but I didn't get that far. They all got lime.
I love John Oliver!

On the Bravetart site there's a recipe for lemon curd I'm thinking about using because it's yolk-only... which the ATK recipes are whole egg with an extra yolk or two... but she says that the resultant curd is too watery and would make the macarons soggy unless eaten immediately... do you think adding the frosting will prevent that?
@Jolenealaska Huh, I don't remember that one.
We tend to watch them when they first come out.

that's from 2014

AH.

he's just brilliant

Yeah, we love him.

5:13 PM
I've been YouTube binging on clips. Did you see when he started a church? Lady of Perpetual Exemption?

Yes. That was awesome.

5:25 PM
Sorry, I missed the question you asked above - yes, the cream cheese frosting or buttercream prevents sogginess.

:) Thanks. Off to the store.

curd alone would be too... slippery wet

@Jolenealaska fingers crossed.

@Catija jealous! all I have in my kitchen at the moment is popcorn :(

@Erica :D Thanks! All in all, it was a good first try... they're unflavored... I didn't even remember to put in the vanilla.... so I guess they're "almond"? They look really good but I think a couple of them are definitely hollow... not sure if all of them are. I think the oven was a bit overheated initially. The oven thermometer read 320 instead of 300, so I dropped the temp to 280 but put them in anyway, so they got a bit too much heat initially maybe?
I'd be interested to see if @Jolenealaska or @ElendilTheTall has any thoughts.
@Paparazzi Garden fresh, as in just picked "at the peak of ripeness", is best if you can get it. If you can't get it that fresh, it is often better to buy it frozen. Peas are like that and seafood is the same way. — Jolenealaska ♦ 2 days ago
@Jolenealaska I actually told him the exact same thing like two-three weeks ago...

A: Why is store bought frozen food worse than homemade?

CMB92I think that at the end of the day, store bought frozen meals aren't per se worse, but rather that the manufacturer needs to appeal to a large, diverse audience of buyers and so their recipes are not tailored to your tastes. Recipes you make at home are often tailored to your taste by the mere fa...
