I'm on my way to Les Mis! I can barely breathe. CYA!

@Jolenealaska Ooo have fun!
I'm sure you will.

YES! I will :)

Yay!
Do tell us how it was when you come back.

1 hour later…
3:13 AM
Les Miserables is my favorite play. @jolenealaska

That was sooooo good! Weird though, I thought this was a traveling troupe. It isn't, the The Anchorage Concert Association hired a casting company in LA to run auditions. This venue is the only one for this particular cast. They were great! Only young Cosette was local.
It was tiny though. I don't think there were more that 30 people in the entire cast. I mean, including chorus and ensemble.
It was great though. Eponine, Mme Thenardier and Marius were stand-outs.
The young (25ish) girl beside me told she was excited because she had recently seen part of the musical movie on DVD. She didn't know the story, but she could tell she was going to love it.
Oh dear.
I'm going to have to carry you out, aren't I?
Close :)
She may never get the mascara stains out of her socks.

Damndest thing. The last live theater production I saw was Lion King. I was very enthusiastic for that one too. That was maybe 5 years ago. I got kind of disgusted maybe the 3rd big number in because the audience was showing no appreciation. "You know folks, you are allowed, even encouraged, to applaud."
So, at the next big number, I just started to loudly applaud. It caught on like the bubonic plague. It took one person (me) to break the ice.
This event? Same thing.
It wasn't until I got noisy, that the audience seemed to realize that noise was OK.
How weird is that?
Maybe that's why there was no curtain call.
I love a good curtain call, and there was no curtain call.
Maybe opening night the audience just nodded at them.
So they said screw it.
@PrestonFitzgerald Mine too. My first exposure to it was the 25th Anniversary Concert on DVD. I was blown away. I immediately read three different unabridged English translations of the novel, because I couldn't get enough.
Here's an interesting tidbit.
You know who doesn't like it? Demographically speaking?
The French.
They didn't even go to see the musical movie.
pfft

9:15 AM
To be fair the latest movie wasn't exactly superb.
There was something about Marius that made me want to pop him in the mouth ever time he was on screen.
every*
'Course that part of the story is the least interesting to me.

IMO it was the best one so far. I didn't like the Thenardiers (which sucked, because I really wanted to), I LOVED Marius! I thought he was great!
Have you seen the 25th Anniversary Concert?

I don't think so

That is The Best!
As in....buy it NOW!

Cool. I'll have to hunt it down.
My parents saw it in NY way back in the day and brought the soundtrack back for me.

9:22 AM
So I'd memorized the soundtrack before ever seeing it myself

The 25th is the best I have heard yet.
Master of the House ROCKED!

Ugh. That reminded me of Borat as the master of the house. You really liked the movie? >_<

Bring Him Home was so good that the audience wouldn't let him go until he broke the 4th wall and thanked them.

I'm going to add the 25th anniversary dealio to my Christmas list.

I hated Master of the House in the movie, but I liked the rest of it a lot.
Anne Hathaway knocked it out of the solar system.
And I loved, loved little Cosette.
Hugh was OK, not bad. Same with Russell.
The barricade boys were great, especially Enjolras.

9:29 AM
For me Les Mis is the story of Jean. I know there's a lot more to it and I love the whole thing, but he's the character that resonates with me. I feel it's similar to how Fantine really drives things for a lot of lady fans.
The movie didn't deliver for me on that point.

In the 25th Gavroche will kill you. Luckily, they didn't do the death of Gavroche scene, that would have led to mass suicide.

I agree Hathaway was amazing.
Hahah.
He's my mom's favorite.
Kind of the ultimate crowd-pleasing character, really.

For me, it was the relationship between Cosette and Valjean. I was adopted by my father, the best man I have ever known. The line, "Your child will want for nothing" kills me.

Aw
That's awesome
There really is something for everybody in that play.

Yes, it tugs everyone a little differently.
The 25th was my first. By the time we got to the bishop, I couldn't breathe.

9:38 AM
:)

Awesome, awesome way to be introduced.
They call it a concert, but it's so close to being the stage show that it just seems like the show.

I've seen probably three or four live productions and I just end up comparing it to the original cast constantly. When you care about something so much and you hold it dear it's hard to accept changes sometimes lol
Yeah I was wondering that about the concert. I looked at some images and it looks pretty complete.

They have appropriate costume changes and blocking, the only thing it's really missing is the set stuff that is stylistic anyway.

It's complete in every way that matters, and it's a STELLAR cast. Better than the London original (IMO).

6 hours later…
3:42 PM
Aaaaagh I want to wring something's neck!!! Right this minute!.

1 hour later…
4:48 PM
@rumtscho Here, wring one.
I have enough necks.
Or, if your frustration is exceedingly large, I will refer you to my sister, Hydra.

7 hours later…
11:25 PM
@cerberus What doesn't wring you makes you stronger.

11:37 PM
@PrestonFitzgerald Quite so.
Axe one head and two will sprout up in its stead.
