3:37 AM
I just became a yearling!

Congrats!!

4:04 AM
:)

3 hours later…
6:40 AM
@jolenealaska here's your badge and gun
Don't go all maverick on us, or I'll have to take them off you

Yeah right, I'm gunna get a gun from you!?
I have decided that I really like making risotto.

Hey! We have guns, we just don't give them away free with £20 of fuel

Hee:)
I've decided that I really like making risotto.

It's a calming process
Ladle, stir, wait, ladle, stir, wait

It's just the perfect amount of fussiness, prep, technique and like you say ...calming.
And the difference between doing it well and just doing it, is huge.

6:46 AM
I think I'll make some banana Choc chip muffins today

that sounds like something SAJ would really like.
Oh..argghh...
Casio has its own type of cable\
and a new card didn't help, my drive is toast.

Get a card reader

It's not terribly expensive (thankfully) just a PIA

They're about $5

the cable is like $10
(including shipping)

6:50 AM
Get a card reader...

show me?

Essentially a new sd card drive that plugs into a USB port
OK, hang on
There you go.
You can use it with any card then, not just with that camera

OK, sold. The Casio thing pisses me off anyway.

Yes, the whole point of USB is to have a universal standard

I'm velveting chicken...my oil temp is getting close...

6:56 AM
Oh, the tension

Yes, so how dare they??!
Screw that!
Pfft, I need their cable?
Thank you for showing a frugal alternative.
oil is at temp!
brb
first batch is done...that is just plain good.

Velveted chicken risotto!

Maybe next time! This is actually a blast from my past.
I'm making the Frugal Gourmet's Chicken Velvet Soup.
so simple, so good
2nd (and last batch) ooh...5 more degrees!
brb
Done...wow, if I could, I'd show you how good this sliced chicken breast looks.
You haven't responded in a while :) Are you being pulled away by the lovely Mrs Tall, or the precious mini-Tall?

8:20 AM
The latter
We were hiding from crocodiles
Serious business

I'm glad you made it. Whew!

Thank goodness for the good ship HMS Couch Cushion
Protecting intrepid explorers from the depredations of the loathsome Carpet Crocodile for years

Nice! :)
I need to go to bed. You enjoy this time! You'll never get it back. I'm smiling hard imagining it. Goodnight and good morning.

Of course, when you land you have Couch Throw Bears to worry about
G'night hon
Sleep tight

thx! Hug the mini-Tall for me.

8:35 AM
I'll have to catch her first

6 hours later…
2:07 PM
Banana-Choc Chip Muffins done! Thought I'd get the old soul-catcher out even though they're not that impressive

2:25 PM
They are actually cupcakes in size, but they're muffin in texture.

1 hour later…
3:36 PM
Lookin' good!
What's the difference between cupcakes and muffins?

4 hours later…
7:27 PM
@Cerberus OMG! Don't ask that!
You'll wake something up!
It'll be scary! :0

Q: What's the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?

msh210I was debating with someone today whether what we were eating was a cupcake or a muffin, but realized we didn't really know the difference. So what's the difference between a cupcake and a muffin in American English? In case you're wondering, what we were eating had a sweet batter, but not ove...

@ElendilTheTall Purty! :) Marco??

8:30 PM
Noooo...I am doomed!
Hmm that is extremely subtle.

8:50 PM
It's quickbread vs cake.

I don't think we have quickbread here as a term, we would call all those things simply "cake".
"Cakejes" are small cakes.

9:04 PM
Muffins are muffin shaped
Obviously
Cupcakes are also usually topped with something
These are supposed to be topped with pastry cream

Pastry cream? I don't think I like that?
But I liked your little cakes are they were.

Are you asking me or telling me?
Pastry cream/creme patissiere/cream wiv custard innit

9:22 PM
Hi @ElendilTheTall ! I'm watching Training Day right now, Denzel is asking the attempted rapist which nut he'd like to keep.

Maybe I'll like it if you make it.
I don't like pastry cream in cakes one buys in shops. Including fancy ones.

Just so everyone is on the same page:
Is this pastry cream to everyone?

Probably!

It's not my favorite either, I prefer a buttercream.

How about a standard custard?
But I have never tasted home-made pastry cream.
Looks like that one has more corn starch than a normal custard: perhaps they use even more starch in shops.
I general dislike things with too much (wet) starch.

9:37 PM
The only "custard" I make regularly is my ice cream base. 6 egg yolks, 3 cups dairy, no starch.

9:47 PM
Hmm.
