Q: Using filler words like 'So', 'Anyway'.

dwjohnstonI find myself using these words all the time. Now (<-- there's one!), to be clear the context I'm using them is in conversational style writing, on social commentary, or in forum posts like these. It's not formal academic writing, and it's not story telling. (In a fictional story, these words w...

@KitZ.Fox hi!

Feel like writing today?
Hey, I posted a practice ASMR video.
It's not very good, but I was thinking that I could do them like I do the free-writes.

cool!
where did you post it?

youtube
did you want to watch it?
it's really boring for non-tingle people.

how long is it?

about 5 minutes.

4:40 PM
well, I guess I wouldn't be able to provide any useful feedback

when I say it's not very good, I mean it. Not in that fake-modesty-please-praise-me way.
I'm interested to see if I can make videos that will trigger my tingles.
Or if it has to be someone else doing it.

I see
did it work?

I'm not sure. My ears ache from too much earbuds.
It might work if I'm not watching it.
You know, just listening.
I think I'll see if the IT dept here has a spare set of headphones.

yeah. maybe you need to sneak up on yourself ;)

Right. Otherwise, I get all hung up on looking at what I look like.
So.
Writing today?

4:50 PM
sure!

Right now?

yeah
should we wait for the allotted time?
I guess people can catch up

OK.

@KitZ.Fox What's the topic?

uh
I chose last time. It's your turn.

4:54 PM
hmmmm
"Why do I feel nauseous?"

...
Haven't we done that one before?

have we?

Well. OK. Ten minutes. GO!

@KitZ.Fox very dramatic :D

@MattE.Эллен oh agony!

seems quiet in here today
no mr shiny or arrowfar

5:30 PM

Hi @Arrowfar

user116848
@KitZ.Fox @MattE.Эллен Hi guys!

user116848
Hey! :)

I was thinking of you yesterday, @Matt, when I was throwing darts in a dive bar.
And then smoking a cigar in the alleyway.

user116848
5:39 PM
So I saw this funny conversation somewhere. I thought I'd share:

@KitZ.Fox what were you thinking?
hi @Arrowfar

@MattE.Эллен That I would have fun playing darts with you. It's probably because I was playing cricket.

user116848
Here goes:

user116848
> A says: This (xyz) chat room is so nice, everyone is so polite all the time. I feel amazing!
B says: Hey, fuck you!

user116848
;-)

5:43 PM
:D
@KitZ.Fox ah, cricket. that's a game
I'm surprised you'd be playing that!

The darts kind of cricket
not the cricket kind of cricket

oh...
how does that work?

@Arrowfar Sounds like EL&U
@MattE.Эллен Well. You know darts?

@KitZ.Fox yes

It's like that

user116848
5:45 PM
@KitZ.Fox heh!

user116848

@KitZ.Fox how does the cricket fit in?

@MattE.Эллен I was teasing. For cricket, you throw three of each 20-15 plus bullseye.
If you close yours (get three) before your opponent, you score that number of points if you hit it again.
That's cricket. You have to agree if you're going in order when you start too.
Or if you can throw at anything.

do the three have to be the same, or in the range 20-15?

@Arrowfar Now I want marmalade.

user116848
5:48 PM
@KitZ.Fox Me too.

user116848
I wrote very little. I am thinking what to write on today's topic.

@MattE.Эллен Three of each in that range. When you get three of a particular number, that's called "closing" it.
@Arrowfar No thinking! Just writing! Stop subverting the process!

user116848
Oh, I missed last week's topic too.

user116848
@KitZ.Fox Sure!

:D
@KitZ.Fox well, it's at least as confusing as cricket :D

5:49 PM
So if I close 20, and you only have two 20s, then I get 20 points if I hit 20 again.
It's not as confusing as I'm making it sound.

lol
@KitZ.Fox ok, that makes sense

If I get three of a number before you do, I get points when I hit the number

so, if you hit outside the range, what happens?

So not only do I have to get all three of 20-15 and the bull before you do, but then I also have to score more points than you.
@MattE.Эллен nothing
you just wasted a dart, basically

ok
so you have to get three, the bull and a fourth?

5:51 PM
there's another darts game that uses all the numbers, 301 or sometimes just "01"

or is the bull part of the range?

where you decide the hundreds part.

@KitZ.Fox where you score down from 301?
and have to end on a double

@MattE.Эллен You have to get three bullseye.
@MattE.Эллен Yes, start on a double too.
It's harder to play when I'm drunk I've been drinking.

everything's more difficult when I've been drinking

5:53 PM
So usually in cricket you try to close in order (except for bulls, which are 25 pts) so that you don't get behind in points.
But usually you also count slop, so you never know for sure.
So if you've scored 20 points on me, then I have to hit 19 five times before you close it in order to get ahead again.
(or score four bullseye)
Oop! Meeting time! see you

CU
I should go and buy some food.
