Q: the use of "now" in past tense

VaythI want to write something like Now that he met his lost daughter, his happiness is now complete. But I'm not sure how to turn that into narrative past tense, especially the "now" part. Is it like this? ?? that he had met his lost daughter, his happiness was ?? complete. What should I ...

Hi

3 hours later…
2:09 PM
Hi.

Both Matt and Kit are not here. They must be having a date.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
You went there

Just joking. Kit is married, and Matt is not.
Shiny is married too, and I am not.

2:38 PM
Today is writing day.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Do you know of any email that has the same conversation view as gmail? Outlook's conversation view works differently.

@JasperLoy No, I mainly use gmail.

I no longer visit the Eng chat room.
Here is @matt.

3:02 PM
Sorry about the disappearance.
Whenever anyone at our school streams any media, lag rears it's ugly head.

3:19 PM
Aw.
I killed another chat room.
FIRST THE MATH ROOM, AND NOW THIS.
TOMORROW...
The physics room...

@MattE.Эллен Kit seems busy today.

I guess so :)

@MattE.Эллен Sometimes, I feel like giving up trying to get well, it's so tiring.

3:34 PM
what do you think will happen if you give up

I will never be able to function optimally, but I can still function a little.
However, if I don't give up, I may be able to function optimally, or I might not function at all.

What is "functioning"?

Doing productive work, having peace of mind, etc.

what happens if you try to be "functioning"?

I can't if I have disturbing thoughts.

Q: Why are 'academic' document paragraphs indented and have no top margin?

Sander SchaefferA quick side by side comparison of two writing styles: Left: no indent and with white space; right: indented, but no white space Recently, I'm seeing more and more academic like documents which are all written in the same style. And one of the characteristics I'm seeing (and really bugging me)...

@MattE.Эллен I am going to bed. I hope my miracle comes soon. Good night.

@JasperLoy good night, sleep well

4:50 PM
Boing! an event is starting in 10 minutes

Writing chat!

proffers Coke
I am so hungry.

Chitling rat
hungry for writing?

Uh...
I'm trying to lose weight.
I'm sulking right now.

4:53 PM
luckily writing is a healthy alternative to calorie intensive things like: food

grumbles
I might have to eat tomorrow's lunch too.

why?
or, why not?
you can lose weight by sitting still if your room temperature is low enough :D

Because it's just withdrawal. I can do this if I don't cave.
I can have discipline.
I can wait and stuff my face tonight.

sounds good

Then next time, I'll go a little longer.
Until the hooks are out enough that I can manage it.
But I really want pizza. Also, tater tots.

4:59 PM
mmmm carbs

I hate that word. I hate that word.

which word?

scowls

do you prefer "complex sugars"?

5:19 PM
Sorry I was preoccupied by work. it's a bit of an insane day.
I will be back in 15 mins, will you guys want to do the writing exercise then?

@MattE.Эллен yes, or "carbohydrates". Carbs is always a 22 year old California surfer dude who is stoned out of his puny mind.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes.

May I suggest a writing topic?

When we are ready, sure.
But keep it as a surprise until then, OK?

Alrighty.
I'll have to go now sorry, testing at school.
Here's the subject in binary.
Translate it whenever you feel as such.
01000001 00100000 01110011 01110100 01101111 01110010 01111001 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100001 01110100 00100000 01110100 01110010 01101001 01100101 01110011 00100000 01101001 01110100 00100111 01110011 00100000 01100010 01100101 01110011 01110100 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01101101 01100001 01101011 01100101 00100000 01101110 01101111 00100000 01110011 01100101 01101110 01110011 01100101 00101110

5:35 PM
what character encoding is that?

Rot-13

rot-13 is not a valid encoding.
so I'm here, ready to write
@MattE.Эллен seems to have disappeared

Right. I should do that.
I was going to work on my writing thing I want to finish, but that's not happening, so I'll do the free write.
I'm ready. Are you ready?

I'm ready. is it just us?

I guess so.
Did you translate Delta's topic?

5:45 PM
yeah

What is it?

A story that tries to make no sense

Seems almost too easy.
Well, OK. You want to do that?

I have a feeling it will be awful, but sure.

OK. Ten minutes. Go.

5:56 PM
A story that makes no sense (Except that it is more absurd than nonsensical)

A story that tries to make no sense (and rather succeeds, I'm afraid)
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 rofl Avocado!

@KitZ.Fox Wow that's rather nonsensical! Who can dice the ricing halls?
> I know that she said that the thing was that the one time that I thought that had happened it was that she had thought that I had known that that would go on and I didn’t.
I feel like I should almost get that.
@KitZ.Fox Why are avocados funny? nobody knows

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It actually parses if you take it slow. One of the few that is legit.

@KitZ.Fox yeah
it's great

I know that / she said / that the thing was / that the one time that I thought that had happened ...

6:01 PM
oops, it's not 4'11 it's 4'33

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Ha! I knew exactly what you meant.

@KitZ.Fox I meant to look it up but I was on a roll

I threw the that cadence off, but not intentionally. I think it turned out brilliant.

For some reason I have a hard time producing sentences like your less grammatical ones.

I am rather surprised that I can write ten minutes of nonsense.
I'm impressed that you could write an actual story.
Absurd.
I mean, a whole absurd story in ten minutes.
I would have a hard time thinking of intentionally absurd actions.
like braiding carrots into manes.

6:09 PM
It's not a very good story. It just goes for cheap gags, basically

I could really go for some cheap gags right now.

ever play mad libs?

yes, lots.
I love that game.
I can't believe how hungry I am.

I hate that feeling. I usually cope by filling up on water.
or coffee, let's be honest. coffee.

Coffee is a great idea. I just had some tea, but I've just discovered I have many hours left before the person I'm leaving with will be willing to leave.
She's a late-in, late-out worker. Ugh.
So she's willing to leave early, at 5:30.
Two hours later than I usually leave.

6:22 PM
ouch
and your commute isn't short, right?

Well, I'm waiting on her because I'm staying at her place tonight.

ah.
is this an "aaaaaaah, nudge nudge, wink wink" situation? :p

I doubt it.
I will probably be her wingman tonight. She's a cougar on the prowl.
I'm pretty sure that girl-on-girl action has never occurred to her.
Which is really for the best.
Because I like her OK, but she's not my type.
Well, I guess I should be glad that my contract didn't totally screw me.
Although I am pretty annoyed that they deposited a large sum of money into my personal checking.
Especially when I was supposed to be not eating all the food.
Now I don't really have an excuse to not eat all the food.

@KitZ.Fox You can transfer the money to me, if you like. I will promptly convert it into inedible lego.
There are so many kits I want to buy.

I am not for sale.

6:38 PM
actually it's a partial list
that Shield Helicarrier set is pretty awesome.
It's even better in person than it is on screen. BUT it's frickin' huge.

My sons have gotten the idea that they want that.
Now I'm eating peanuts and yogurt.
I feel a little better.
Jasmine's Exotic Palace. hahahaha
Not what I expected from the title.

6:58 PM
heh
You have a big house, right? plenty of room for a helicarrier or two.
print some "hydra" stickers and you can even rebadge one of them to be the bad guys, then you could stage a helicarrier duel

7:21 PM
gets ideas
We're trying to save money though, what with my husband out of work.

oh then a $350 lego set might not be the best plan.

Maybe after we replace the upstairs toilet and build the garage out (to hold more wood, not Lego). And also finish the wall we tore out.

Would you like to hear my result for that topic?

Sure.

I wrote it quickly, little spare time, so I might have the winner ;)
'Tis called... The Day Everything Was on Fire.
Part of a Novel I'm Writing.
The Day Everything Was On Fire
Chapter 7 Of IAtWtWNE
I expect you think this is going to be the weirdest and most out of order chapter in this book. That assumption is justifiable in a sense. The end product is incoherent and shouldn’t be regarded as anything but, even though the means leading to the incredulous, though spectacular ending are logical, though some unable to be performed. So if you’d like to hear a story you can’t find anywhere else, then sit down and grab a bag of popcorn. It started like any other day in my life, me getting up and putting on my hat. The only weird thing to

7:43 PM
I question my sanity when I write this book.

8:03 PM
Hey @Mr.Shiny. Can you help me think a minute?

@KitZ.Fox I can try

The dev can access a dll in dev, but when the code executes in prod, the dll isn't there. We checked the path, everything looks OK. Any idea what else might be going on?

Maybe the architecture is different. Just thought of that one.

Probably not... unless you're building a 64-bit app

8:10 PM
I think dev is 64-bit usually here.

This link explains how windows finds DLLs

I thought it might also need to be registered as a resource.
Looks like that is a remote possibility.

> If SafeDllSearchMode is enabled, the search order is as follows:
The directory from which the application loaded.
The system directory. Use the GetSystemDirectory function to get the path of this directory.
The 16-bit system directory. There is no function that obtains the path of this directory, but it is searched.
The Windows directory. Use the GetWindowsDirectory function to get the path of this directory.
The current directory.
The directories that are listed in the PATH environment variable. Note that this does not include the per-application path specified by the App Paths registry

I wonder if it must be included in the App Path.

According to what I just pasted, no.

8:14 PM
And if Safe DLL search mode is enabled or not.

it's probably on.

It's irritating
The full path is specified in the load.

I guess double-check the path....
drive letters are mapped, etc?

Yes, but that's a good thing to check.
I think YouTube heard me talking about oatmeal. I'm a little weirded out by that.
I am sucking at writing a problem statement right now. scowls

8:32 PM
Google once seemed to have overheard a conversation I had once. It started showing me ads related to what I'd been saying aloud.
Sorry I couldn't help more with your DLL issue. I'm not a windows developer.

It's OK. I'm not anymore either.
I was trying to help out.

My phone seems to have developed a row on the screen where it's insensitive to touches.

uh oh

I'm annoyed because I love this phone and am underwhelmed with my choices for a replacement.

> the appPool didn't have "Enable32BitApplications" set to true
Yay!

8:41 PM
Good call on the arch

I was close. He was the one who got it though.

9:06 PM
dinner time! Finally!
Bai!
