12:21 AM
I am so glad I protected the fruit/vegetable question before it made HNQ.
and I am annoyed at myself for not clarifying the botanical/culinary thing sooner!
last thing we need is "technically tomatoes are fruit"

12:46 AM
In other news, this is a pretty thrilling read:

10 hours later…
10:54 AM
morning all

11:13 AM
mornin!

hey you

11:35 AM
@Jolenealaska did you just pop up, say mornin!, and go right back to sleep?

3 hours later…
2:12 PM
@Cerberus yo

2:23 PM
@ElendilTheTall Yoyo!

and thrice yo

nods solemnly

how goes it?

3:28 PM
@rumtscho - just passed HD on the way home ;-)

@Stephie good trip I hope?

5 hours later…
8:23 PM
Home sweet home...
@ElendilTheTall yes, it was great!
Apart from one B&B everything was a great success. And sometimes we just were plain lucky and hit a jackpot, both accommodation- and otherwise.
Thanks again for your help!
As so often, we left with lots of good memories, a few extra pounds (hips & luggage) and a list of ideas for next time.

@Stephie Hmm I would have expected a few pounds fewer.
Welcome back!

@Cerberus the real English cuisine is better than it's reputation. Steak & ale pie, anyone?
Not to mention the cookies...

Haha, I mean, they actually gave you money there?
@Stephie Don't tell that to @Lindy!

@Cerberus well, from that pov, certainly not "a few" ;-)

8:47 PM
@Stephie yay!
what was your favourite bit?

Erm.....
Hard to say. Possibly the grouse flying up at son's feet in the moors?
Or the London Eye at dusk?

Nice
how were the Lakes?

Rainy, but great!
Definetively on the "go back" list.

It was scorching the week after

I know... And I saw your photos!

8:52 PM
not the best light, but found a few places I will revisit
so where did you get to altogether?

Next time we'll skip the holiday season, leave the kids at home and bring the hiking gear again.

@ElendilTheTall Lakes or overall?

overall
Lakes in Winter are beautiful

Ok, loooong list:
Arrived at Newcastle and drove north to Fenham Farm. Hopped over to Holy Island the next morning, then along Hadrian's Wall over to the lakes.
Great timing: hit the hills at sunset.
In the Lake District, the small hike I told you about, a cruise on Ullswater, tea at the Apple Pie Cafe (highly recommended) and a bit of shopping, finally Hill Top.
Through the dales (rollercoaster roads, waterfall) over to the moors.
Yes, it sounds illogical, but we had planned to hike in the dales and got a) a bad forecast and b) no good place to stay.
Hiked on the moors (pink heather everywhere), spent a day at the beach and went twice to York. Tea at Betty's, yum!

9:08 PM
Hey @ElendilTheTall, I saw your message for me from last night. It was worse than me waking up just to say mornin. I don't remember getting up at all. So I sleep messaged you.

Then Oxford (we needed a bit of a break, re-pack, relax), saw the colleges, the Bodleian library, I snuck into a museum.
Avebury (a very "hands on" day, both at the manor house and the henge), I think I still like it better than Stonehenge, which we did the next day. But Stonehenge has improved a lot since my last visit. (Long time ago, I admit.)
Then with a bit of a detour through Salisbury (bookstore...!) and the New Forest (including the mandatory curious pony that ambled over to us for a cursory snack check and a few pats) to London.
And yes, of course traffic on a Sunday evening was just as congested as it was to be expexted.
The minors had a blast on the Tube and we grownups found out that our ten year old oysters still worked.

@Jolenealaska good morning again!

It was tough for the kids: British Museum, Hyde Park, busses, Harrod's. All in one day.

9:24 PM
The next day, we took a Clipper to Greenwich, walked up to the Royal Observatory, rode the DLR, crossed Westminster Bridge and the great finale: The London Eye while the lights went on in the city.

you certainly packed it in
York is nice
as are the Moors - only visited there myself for the first time a few weeks ago
tell me you didn't miss the York Fudge Shop?!
on the street that runs up towards the Minster

@ElendilTheTall, did I mention that we got memberships both for National Trust & English Heritage? And we did save money with them.

@Jolenealaska glad to know I'm so stimulating that even sleep can't stop you talking to me :D
@Stephie oh?
are there many National Trust places in Germany? :D

@ElendilTheTall Yes!

@ElendilTheTall No, we had minor 1. He has a candy radar.

9:28 PM
:D
and what did you think of the British Museum?
Something else eh?

@Stephie do you mean uncanny?

Loved the architecture!

Ah
lol
That works too :)
uncanny candy radar

uncandar (TM)

<snort>

9:30 PM
well, I will have to wait to hear details and see photos until tomorrow, for now it is bed time
glad you enjoyed your time here - I did tell everyone to behave

@ElendilTheTall bedtime for me as well - sleep tight!

Don't give up on me as a chat partner who might be awake!
Goodnight guys.

g'night

It's 11:30 here and I arrived at our last hotel at 1am. I'm beat.
But I woke up to this:
High up over the Rhine. Five-star treatment, special gift from Hubby.

Excellent!

9:39 PM

@Stephie Hmm I thought the exchange rate of the pound had plummeted...
Schönissimo!

(Sorry, it's pretty warped.)
Again: G'night!

Adieu!
