I hate how "history is written by the victors" is used like a cudgel by people looking to make unreflective blanket dismissals of mainstream historiography

It's kind of like how some people use "correlation is not causation" to dismiss any scientific findings they don't like, as if knowing that saying entitles you to an opinion without having to actually know anything about the subject at hand

Both are valid principles, but I'm generally skeptical of most people invoking them.
