12:00 AM
@RoryAlsop Documentaries haha.

@diagprov :-)

Hulu had a good list for British Comedies as well

Next you'll be calling Dilbert "investigative journalism".

@diagprov it's another doumentary, I thought

I love it when you find the perfect case for a project

12:10 AM
can someone please also reject this? security.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/68949

morning gnets
done

hahaha thanks
> Tildal told me to reject it, so I complied
morning @Lucas
how's living in SG?

@TildalWave it's hot
but life's good

but you got used to it by now, right?
@LucasKauffman glad to hear

12:14 AM
#circuitporn

Better buy 500 of them 'cause you'll end up saving a lot!

@TildalWave good chunk of SG is air conditioned...

@Simon Yeah I'll get right on that...

oh great captcha

12:16 AM
@JourneymanGeek wouldn't it be easier to just build a dome around it and AC the lot? :)

"Select all the images with grass." So I select 2 grass photos, and the marijuana photo... and it didn't go through

Oh my god, there was a SO dev in here, I was feeling some sort of nurd overload even if I was away from my computer.

@DavidFreitag building a computer wiper?

@JukEboX Nope it's a circuit that leverages avalanche noise from a zener diode

@TildalWave Did you get flagged or something?

12:19 AM
I'm making a hardware RNG

@DavidFreitag what does the circuit do?
ah RNG

@LucasKauffman Creates completely unpredictable noise AC-coupled, then uses an LNA to amplify the noise. I'm going to build this for a test, then use it with USB 3.0 and a high speed ADC for a massive source of entropy

Wait, wait, wait, wait. What the fuck happened? Stop discussing about nurdy things you nurdz.

Tildal lost his diamond?

12:22 AM
@Simon He turned in his gun and his badge

@Simon no, I got annoyed, gave up on it because being annoyed won't change otherwise

Ah, yes, just read the post where he suggests that.

@TildalWave it has been suggested....

@TildalWave I see dude. I wanna celebrate this by telling you to fuck off!

12:23 AM
@Simon Huehuehue

:D

@JourneymanGeek what has?

What brought the blues here though?

that we build a dome over singapore?

@Simon sure, after you... ladies first :P

12:24 AM
@TildalWave :OOOO

@DavidFreitag y u no do kickstarter?
how much is one of these?

@LucasKauffman I will, but this is very prototype stage
I'm about to hand etch this board and buy parts
@LucasKauffman If I had to guess? <$50 without a fancy case
I'll probably do a slower USB 2 version first

if you kickstart it, I shall invest

Do you need USB 3.0 for that tho?

Make a raspberry pi and call it the dovid ti

12:27 AM
You can get a lot of noise through USB 2.0 ;p

@JourneymanGeek It's not about noise it's about how fast the RNG is

@JourneymanGeek wait, you mean to construct the dome? really? I mean, like seriously suggested?
because I think that would have been awesome from engineering standpoint at least

To save cost I'll probably get a cheap FPGA and use an integrating ADC instead of an off the shelf part
Since I'll have to use some sort of programmable logic chip for glue logic

@TildalWave Lee Kuan Yew kinda felt it would be an awesome idea if it was sensible

12:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek cold plasma force field ;)
things with enough momentum can penetrate it no problem (like humans, cars, airplanes,...), but it would prevent mixing of air between inside and the outside
it's been considered before to use in orbit, but that would be small "plasma windows", building large ones would be ... challenging... but awesome

@TildalWave or move the airport offshore/have it outside the bubble
or have multiple small domes
Or... move most the pedestrian and traffic stuff underground....
which is pretty technically possible

I'd go with force field
underground means going carbon free
might not happen that fast

Well cars are pricy here

so 65k in London - I'm thinking that's a low salary for a senior security position, huh?

@schroeder pounds?

12:52 AM
I'm sure both roros are making much more than that.

yep

cc: roros

@schroeder 65k pounds is insane. That's like $130k?

@schroeder it's fair, you'd get by but I'd make sure you can climb the rungs fast

yep

12:53 AM
@MarkBuffalo UK is pricy tho

Never mind, the pound went down against the dollar
It's pretty bad

especially london

@MarkBuffalo London is also terribly expensive

Yeah you can't just convert to USD/CAD, you gotta consider how much it costs to live there.

Of course
$130k in london is fine
$94k is derp
And by "fine," I mean "decent"

12:56 AM
I'm getting the sense that I should be looking for 75k

You could probably get more than that I bet.

If you aren't desperate, hold out

damn - I think I screwed up
I'd been looking at jobs in the north and had those cost of living numbers in my mind
when a London job came up, I used those numbers

(still visible to mods, I know)
Always negotiate... and if you get an offer, step away from it for a day or so, and negotiate with what you think you're worth

@MarkBuffalo yep - always
but its harder when you set the bar too low, yourself

1:05 AM
agreed

1:24 AM
@Simon @Ohnana I'm having sriracha for the first time :D

Pretty good, isn't it?

I can't tell
I had them load it up with hot peppers and my mouth caught on fire a few bites back

1:47 AM
@DavidFreitag Amateur!

@Simon Yeah well

Try it in a sandwich whenever you can.

1:57 AM
@DavidFreitag if it's too hot for you, you can add a bit more sugar to it, but don't overdo it

@TildalWave Who said mouth on fire is a bad thing?
@Simon It was in a burrito

nobody, I love it
I did start with "if" :P

Honestly I can't tell if the spicyness was from the sriracha or the peppers

@DavidFreitag om nom

@Simon They just opened a Moe's just near me

2:10 AM
@DavidFreitag Probably both but next time only add one of them you dummy.

@Simon It was delicious

@DavidFreitag Looks like we have them here too but I've never been.

@Simon They're great

my entire amazon suggestion list is different colors of tactical fountain pens
kill me

@Ohnana You did this to yourself.

2:12 AM
i know ;-;

Remove the tactical pens from your history and it will change

2:53 AM

Q: How trustworthy is Firefox?

ChristianI looked at different password managers, to swap my user-generated, more or less predictable passwords for automatically generated, secure passwords. I stumbled upon KeePass and FeeFox (for Firefox integration), which seems to be a good and trusted combination. However this led to one question: ...

Is this post really opinion-based? Firefox is required by law to do this.
I realize some questions are opinion-based, but I left both sides of the equation for OP to make the decision for himself.

3:26 AM
@DavidFreitag I read that slightly wrong and started worrying LOL

LOL
I just did too when reading it

@TildalWave 'dat tactical penis

it's the @Simon's ween effect

4:02 AM
@TildalWave - wow. (And then the echo: "shi*, shi*, shi*). Now you're free, man.

@DeerHunter haha yes hey there, long time no see in chat

Hiyo, @TildalWave

I was just thinking that it was funny I'd get rid of the drag and back to breathing the full atmosphere via a discussion about drag in exosphere LOL

LOL, looks like the enterprise is bent on running into the ground.

I had my fair share of disagreements where it's going for a while now, yes

4:08 AM
Yeah, kinda obvious that several failures in a row don't come out of the blue; by the powers of statistics I declare it a trend.

one probably needs look no further than MSE and recognize it for the farce that it is, but look, there's actually also many people that are genuinely helpful here so I'm now just grateful for that and don't have to be too burdened by the others
let's just hope it doesn't end up like Yahoo Answers, huh? :D

(which actually also has some really good contents, they were just never recognized as such)
@DeerHunter hehe yeah, I like that one from The Bridge of Spies ...
> James Donovan: Aren't you worried?
Rudolf Abel: Would it help?

Yahoo in general took the wrong turn...

I still think we should never have given up on newsgroups

4:15 AM
...taken over by the big G...
One has to roll one's own infrastructure.

it's now just a race for control really
even big G makes just a big pile of rubbish nowadays
a certain BSG quote comes to mind
about things happening again, and again, and again,...
eppur si muove

Oh well, time to move now. It was fun (somewhat) while it lasted.
@TildalWave - thanks for doing the thankless job.

I'll stick around until something better comes along. And frankly I love some of the communities here. Especially this one, but I like to think that I helped establish a competent one on space too

Sec.SE is fine and growing; Space is a bit more precarious

well with space it really boils down to who will run it and how much SE doesn't mess with it, because if it's gonna be quantity over quality, I'm out of there

4:28 AM
Quality is so damn important.

tell that to the trilogy :P

That's my "no shit sherlock" for the day.
So we have a prophet running around here saying that a Famine is coming, and to repent

haha

I don't know what to think

neah no need to repent, we'd just like you to bend over

4:31 AM
@MarkBuffalo - you can't cure hubris and monetization drive.

I'm going to repent just in case

look, it's about volunteering your time and knowledge for the benefit of everyone... basic modus operandi doesn't really have much to do with one specific platform

@TildalWave Yeah

if the platform goes, your work hasn't gone in vain

@TildalWave - you have to grab the dumps

4:33 AM
@DeerHunter I think they're now cached somewhere?

The moon is an egg

Internet archive, but stale backups are not fun.
Egg & Bacon for me, if you don't mind.
Earth is square, @MarkBuffalo

@DeerHunter I'm referencing Dr. Who

@MarkBuffalo - have never seen more than an episode now and then

Ok, not funny

4:35 AM
Luddite, I'd say

Damn, you're missing out

I surely am.
Netflix binge is coming. Some day

Don't binge Dr. WHO
Watch one or two episodes after work to really appreciate it.

Will think over it, thanks

@DeerHunter too true

4:38 AM
@TildalWave - cheers, man, gotta go.
Gents and ladies, take care.

you too Deer :) (always wanted to say that LOL)

Please don't forget to buy more popcorn. LOL

oh I've got supply that will last me for a couple of nuclear winters :)

5:10 AM

2 hours later…
7:19 AM
@RoryAlsop That's a pretty bad analogy Roro. I was standing up for the site fairly quietly and if anything even not loud enough, considering in how rare few instances I was even listened to, let alone being heard. And the fact that space is a fairly quiet site despite all the wackoes that it attracts, and that I was probably solving 80% of that, proves that I probably resolved an order of magnitude more problems quietly than those few that blew enough out of proportion that you'd even hear of.
But when you're being stalked by overconfident, over-proud, passive-aggressive lunatics and can't do anything about it unless you cry for help which is never there when you need it, even a person that's been complimented here for having endless patience on several occasions gives up.

I guess it's too easy then for some CM that I haven't seen around in years come here and tell me about family values
My family is just fine no thanks to anyone on Stack Exchange, thank you very much. Has SE ever been my family? No. In fact, it has kept me away from it.

(Also, I indirectly worked on bridge of spies.)

7:34 AM
family doesn't anal retentively dissect every word you say and waits for that rare moment when you might be wrong

@TildalWave tho, that's kinda also the site. I've not had that happen (maliciously) on SU
We do argue a lot, but in a civilized way
But yeah, I've heard similar sentiments before

@JourneymanGeek I didn't mean on the site, I mean "the ones that I was supposed to be a family member of", aka the mods and the CMs

ahh
That anology dosen't quite work for me at all ;p

@JourneymanGeek really? When were you last asked what do you need to make your work for SE easier and a better experience?

@TildalWave 'asked'?

7:38 AM
yes, asked
like a family would do

shrug Most of that sort of thing was going on our meta and fixing broken windows
so to speak
lol. Not my family.
tends to get chunks of time demanded ._.
but we rarely, if ever have CM intervention on SU, and usually its when someone's really badly messed up
(not saying that your issues arn't valid. Just that we probably have different contexts)

oh I don't have issues any more, or at least they're not mine to resolve
now I'm just a customer ... I don't like it, I go where I like it more

There's that

I was just replying to Roro because I saw his reply only now in the star wall

8:11 AM
Morning @TildalWave - I guess I missed too much context. I didn't mean anything about the CMs, just that I know how hard it can be when you have inherent morons trying to rile you every day.

Morning. Yeah, I know you know. And you deal with it better, or you have better support. Probably both. But it has been implicated before that I might be taking it too much to heart, and in other instances that we're supposed to be a family. Well, which one is it? Because I take my family to heart.

8:26 AM
@TildalWave gotcha - I understand what you mean now
this is probably from parts of conversation I didn't see
Well - we obviously aren't family, but here for you as much as we can, if that helps, although no being de-diamonded, you'll be kicking back, taking pot-shots at @Simon, poking the trolls etc :-)

lol
Being around Simon builds charecter....

8:53 AM
Bonjour!

@Matthew awright

mornin' all

It's Friday! Finally! It's taken it's sweet time to get here...
And I'm having a sudden pang of regret for not being at old place of work, where Friday meant that the company bought breakfast rolls for everyone

@Matthew you could instigate it at your new work - and buy breakfast rolls for everyone
