@PaulVargas FYI I didn't feel that your answer was in violation of any site guidelines. You showed your work from a Christian perspective and stated that this was your perspective. That is a perfectly valid answer and likely would get upvoted by some folks
I DV'd it because of my own subjective standards for answers on this site. If an answer doesn't address the historical, linguistic, and literary context and skips to application or proof-texting, I generally will DV it
but that is not a requirement (although many answers are asking for at least one of those things), it is just my personal voting method
granted, sometimes no linguistic or literary context is needed, so in those cases addressing only historical considerations is fine and would get my upvote
but that's just me - I don't recommend catering to my votes - there are many other users with different standards who I'm sure would upvote your answer
@JackDouglas well, I didn't specifically say what I had DV'd, and it was in reply to another user on a different question (I made a blanket comment to the effect that I had DV'd another answer as well
unfortunately, If I DV with no explanation, users will complain about it. But if I leave an explanation, they'll also complain. I can't make everyone happy

I was addressing it with the user since he clearly inferred that his answer was not showing work. I felt that was the right thing to do. I wanted him to know that his answer was fine, my DV does not imply any violation of site guidelines
no reason why it should, but you are free to delete if you want to
I enjoy being able to down-vote posts I don't care for without worrying about retaliation. And I really enjoy being able to leave honest comments without worrying that they'll be justifiably interpreted as evidence that I've down-voted. I would not like to see the two systems linked. — Shog9 ♦Jun 28 '09 at 19:36
But every day I learn something new, here, and in my reading.
@JackDouglas If I start to know more and more and I don't have a prayer life, I could find my own glory. Conceit. It is easier to study than pray, do you think? It is easier to do other things, to have a devotional life.
I’m a CPA in Tennessee Other than that I read a lot of Genesis and work with the ages/numbers.
Hi, David.
Paul / David Do you mind doing something for me here?
What do you think about Users here giving opinions on others' Christian believes? Everyone has opinions, but some are being posted with their "facts" not correct.
As I wrote above about the "work with the ages/numbers" I was joking. ;-)
@Paul I have no idea, and to some degree that's irrelevant. I'm just saying some things that are posted aren't completely correct. E.G. "The Catholic Church did that for centuries, out of convenience and the mistaken assumption that the priest acted in behalf of the laity in drinking the cup."
@JohnMartin Just a quick comment, John - I'm about to shut down for the night. I generally refrain from this, but have once or twice challenged/corrected claims about belief that were factually untrue. "Opinion" I don't touch. :) FWIW!
@JohnMartin Many have a custom set of principles or rules of hermeneutics. Or because someone said that someone else said ... Certainly, these are opinions of the users, some quite subjective and error-prone. But yes there are some very serious and careful in their opinions.
