Q: Hermeneutically, how do we reconcile Jesus' teaching on loving our enemies and YHWH's telling Israel to destroy their enemies?

rhetoricianA variation of this question was asked a few days ago, and I can no longer find it. Having spent umpteen hours crafting an answer to the OP's question, I think it only fitting that I post his or her question and then provide an answer to it. A couple weeks ago, an adult member of a small group ...

^^^^ The Q and both existing A's suggest to me that they belong elsewhere, most obviously on Christianity.SE, although I'm aware that the Q would need tweaks for that context. Candidate for migration? (The VtC tool only gives Meta.BH.SE as a migration target.) @Caleb @Dan @Susan
+ FWIW, there are no texts specified in the question, so falls foul of that guideline as well. Simply sticking "hermeneutically" prominently in the Q and its elaboration doesn't actually make it a question about textual interpretation as I understand BH.SE to operate.

@Davïd Thanks. It looks like the community is making progress toward closure. As you note, it isn't really fit for C.SE as is - a Truth question, I suppose. The OP is familiar with the guidelines on both sites and can provide doctrinal scope and ask a related question over there if he'd like, but he evidently elected not to do so in the first place.

@All I hate to say "I told you so...." "WOW, I didn't realize it was so elitist with so many rules. I withdraw my question. – Laura J. Davis". Perhaps the "How Can We Encourage More People To Participate On This Site" question should be re-phrased to say, "How Can We Encourage More Biblical Hermeneutics Professors And Authors To Participate On This Site."

@Tau I'm just going to put the comment here so it's a little easier for people to see what you're referring to:
Wow! Okay, so I think this is definitely the wrong place for me. I didn't think I was going to get dragged through the mud for not asking a question in the "proper" way. Forget I asked. I will now cancel my account. I thought this was a Christian site, with Christians answering and asking questions that were important to them. I didn't realize it was so elitist with so many rules. I withdraw my question. — Laura J. Davis yesterday
