3:03 AM
I hate triaxial cables

3:29 AM
@W5VO who the heck foisted triax on you? :/

the sub nA measurements I need to do...
And I'm just having fun remembering how standardized triax and triax accessories are
and how well documented everything is
Interesting fact - you can buy 100' of triaxial cable for less than the cost of a piece of triax with connectors already on it.
and assembling triax connectors will remind you why the price difference exists

2 hours later…
6:00 AM
@W5VO Is it the HP one?

1 hour later…
7:27 AM
Google is now of legal age in all parts of the world I know about
Just saying

7:56 AM
Depending on the exact legality, there are quite some countries with different ages,like japan with 20, and I think even the US with 21 in a whole lot of stupid things

8:25 AM
"wadley loop" sounds a bit like walking like a duck...

2 hours later…
9:57 AM
@PlasmaHH I'm sure you don't need to feed Google alcohol before it does anything you want

@Asmyldof it works for everyone else, why not google?

@PlasmaHH Can. Don't need to

4 hours later…
2:17 PM
@Asmyldof no - that's an "off brand" cable (assuming new, not ebay).

@W5VO I don't care what you're buying. I was asking about the device/connector

2:44 PM
Hi. I've seen we can get USB plug sockets for the home. However, I can't find any for shaving sockets (so a shaving socket which has a USB). I can't think of any reason why it can't be "wired" in, does any one have an opinion?

My opinion is that shaving sockets are pointless in 2016

shaving sockets are usually power limited in some way to limit risk in bathrooms

Actually. My opinion is that they are pointless from 1995-ish onward

not sure why you would want an usb port in a bathroom

Shaving sockets are transformer insulated, not nescesarily fused

2:53 PM
Why are shaving sockets pointless?
I mean, is there an alterantive all ya kids are using and those of us who felt old in 1995 arn't aware of :)

3:05 PM
Shavers that don't electrocute you because they have a UL qualified external adapter, rather than a 1970's electric motor driven directly by 230VAC in a wet room with no earth-fault protection?
My general preference

3:17 PM
@Asmyldof A Keithley 2600 series device
in this specific instance
the connectors are just for playing nice with the 3-lug triax cables we already have and the equipment that uses it

@W5VO 2600 series with Triax? Not seen such a thing
Ah it seems there's a 263x series with triax
Learning stuff every day
Looks very much like standard triax though
I feel sort-of challenged to make a new 8 channel design that gets that level of accuracy with the same negligible percentage of noise as the 16ch one
Unfortunately I don't really have 9 months to waste on Schem, PCB, Redesign and FW
Else!

3:34 PM
Are book recommendations allowed on this stack? I see a few threads, but none that are fitting what I need.

@tuskiomi no

@W5VO How about "What engineering book anyone should have in his library is exactly one inch thick, so I don't have to constantly convert from normal people to stupid mil-sizes?" ?
"These pins are exactly 1/10th book apart"

@Asmyldof I love how there are parts that try to match an existing form factor, but make it metric. For example, I have terminal blocks that can have a 5.08 mm pitch, and a 5.0 mm pitch

@W5VO I have (lovingly) quite a lot metric types, but that's because 7.68 is as hard to get as 7.5 in many blocks, same with 10 vs 10.something
And of course 2.0mm, 1.5mm, 1.0mm connectors
Whole drawers full of those

isnt it 7.62x51mm?

3:48 PM
I suppose it is
But in my defence, I don't use that size, I use 7.5

Aren't SSOP pin spacings 0.5mm, 0.635mm, or 0.65mm?

SSOP/TSSOP come in .4, .5, .6, .625, .635, .65, 1.27, depending on supplier and their sense of "IPCness" AFAIK

> However, the relative transconductance coefficient K'p of p-channel MOSFETs is 2...3 times lower than the relative transconductance coefficient K'n of n-channel MOSFETs. [Source]
What's the physics behind this difference? Isn't hole mobility the same as electron mobility?
(By the way, do we have a canonical question about this?)

5:20 PM
@NickAlexeev No - the mobility is the source of the difference. Beyond that, I don't know.

Holes are not as Mobile since they are virtual

@NickAlexeev IIRC the difference in mobility is mainly down to the different effective mass of holes vs electrons.
And the effective mass is different because the band edge curvature in the E-k diagram is different.

@Asmyldof Sucking the life out of a party is my superpower

@ThePhoton I have that one too!
It's time-shared with repelling women of all ages.
That might also be the rampant drug abuse though

@Asmyldof @ThePhoton And then what do you do with all the energy?:)
Asmyldof Are you a good dancer to do that?What moves do you bring to the ring?:^)

Anything Latin
And of course my caustic attitude toward people in general and individuals specifically

Those should do,yeah
I'm sure in fact

You'd think a company that makes 56 Gb/s communications doohickeys would have decent internet service...

6:24 PM
By the way,I've been watching your messages in chat long before I posted my first message in this room.You must like the tavern,don't you?I see you all the time here!
Did that sound creepy,eh?
Joking

@DanielTork We need somewhere to talk shit.

6:57 PM
@ThePhoton other than "everywhere" ?

7:20 PM
@PlasmaHH You'd be surprised how few EE people actually complain out loud in my experience, in real life
Most offices I'm the one
Then, I have a lot of bitch and moan in me, so it's better to let it out often

@Asmyldof a bit like here, I am usually the only one screaming down the corridor so the boss can hear my complaints

:-)

actually, its not far down the corridor, its next door.
which means his office is right behind me
which means when I am really angry, and he has closed the door to have some time doing something important, he sometimes then can not focus because someone is banging at his wall
but he has also too much trust in people... like, leaving his phone unattended at my desk...
now whenever he receives a message from me, the phone gets his immediate attention by yelling "hey, moron! fucking moron!"

7:49 PM
I am usually more tactful
By a hair

So you use the dutch equivalent?

You Must Construct Additional Pylons! — Passerby 22 hours ago
It took me a day to realize where this came from.

8:07 PM
@NickAlexeev Not a gamer?
@PlasmaHH No, German, actually

@Asmyldof I do Supreme Commander FAF (haven't touched StarCraft for a decade).

1 hour later…
9:30 PM
We should have a related question (or a dupe) for this. We have already had a question along the lines of "Switch hot or neutral?"
2
Q: Should the AC-Live or AC-Neutral wire be 'broken' by a relay?

Rico StrydomI have a 230VAC relay that will switch my bathroom light as well as the extractor fan. The question I have is whether the Live/Phase wire or the Nutral wire go through the relay?

1 hour later…
10:38 PM
@NickAlexeev I have seen at least two in the last year, but .... * shruggage *
