00:00 - 22:0022:00 - 00:00

10:05 PM
What's what?

/me tries the sorcery tentatively
foo bar
AAAAAAH

indeed
@BrianBallsunStanton Should Serai have taken 5 damage?

anyway. I attacked and blew my encounter power for 2 extra damage :{

@Sohum Well, so much for trying to negotiate...
Wouldn't you have to wait on the other characters in the surprise round to roll Init, though?

you really think it would've worked?

10:10 PM
At least could have given it a shot... I'm sure Master Chief could take a hit or two.

given yellow-robe's culty behaviour?

Still say we should interrogate him at the end of this.

oh, totally agree
but Sam's not exactly in position to hear Chief's comment about wanting to negotiate

Chief never actually made a comment - was totally OOC discussion.

my point exactly

10:16 PM
BTW: Am I missing something? I don't see Backstab listed among Sam's powers in iPlay4E or the CB's Character Viewer.

yeeeesss
this is again, exactly the same answer as every other time
iplay4e Sam is a Rogue
actual Sam is a Thief

Gah.
I thought Rogues had backstab though...

nope.
Rogues and Thieves have Sneak Attack

So, do Thieves get First Strike?

yes.
Backstab is the Thief equivalent of an encounter power

10:19 PM
@Sohum So, you meant to use Sneak Attack?
I'm confused again.

...
Backstab
You take a split second to locate the most vulnerable point in your enemy’s defenses.
Encounter Martial
Free Action Personal
Trigger: You make an attack roll against an enemy within 5 squares of you using a basic attack with a weapon. The enemy must be granting combat advantage to you.
Effect: You gain a +3 power bonus to the attack roll, and the enemy takes 1d6 extra damage if the attack hits.
Level 7: 2d6 extra damage.
Level 17: 3d6 extra damage.
Level 27: 4d6 extra damage.

We were talking about backstab and then you brought up sneak attack...
Did you take your Combat Advantage bonus on the roll?

yes, because you thought rogues have backstab
oh, I didn't
that would've canceled out the cover
but that's to-hit only, which wasn't an issue

We think.
DM hasn't answered that yet, has he?

?

10:21 PM
I don't see a reply confirming the hit.

oh, yeah

Not that I expect it didn't, of course.

but srsly, 26 is more than enough around now

I'm sure. Just pointing it out.

mm.
ftr, Rogue!Sam's to-hit rolls are not accurate

10:22 PM
And with your high Init roll, you may get another shot with that First Strike combat advantage.

yea, but I blew Backstab

Oh?

it's an encounter power

Still get combat advantage until the other creatures act.

yea, but that was never an issue :P

10:23 PM
Right... but what did Backstab have to do with it?

because backstab is an encounter power?
and it only rolled 1d6 = 2 damage?

Yeah, that sucked... not much to do with you still having CA though.

no?
I was upset that Backstab sucked this encounter
nothing else

I don't disagree. By the way, we may want to consult with @Kedearian before moving too close. He might decide to pull out that Dimensional Scramble of his.

:D

10:26 PM
I know I'll be going for Dragon's Breath soon enough, but I've got a feat that makes it target enemies only - and gives affected allies +1 to-hit.

hahaha
how on earth is the flavour to that

Bolstering Breath... goes good with the Leader role, methinks.

Bolstering Breath :D

Tried to look up flavor text, but there isn't any in the Compendium or CB. And I don't have PHB Races: Dragonborn.

where would it be?
PHB?

10:33 PM
No, it's a separate book.
Bummer: Dragon Breath uses CON mod for damage, regardless of the ability chosen for attack.
And I have 0 CON mod.
Wonder if there's a feat to change it up...

:{

Ah, Powerful Breath it is.

so you have to take two feats to make it work with your build?

Not really.
Could have done without Bolstering Breath.
But, I thought it was appropriate.

ah, fair enough

10:37 PM
If I use Powerful Breath, I can choose the ability. My STR mod is +5.

mmhm.
I don't know why Backstabber is such a big deal for the Rogue Charop boards
It's +2/+3/+4 damage on SA

I think there's a lot of associated feats. Like there is with Dragon's Breath for Dragonborns, or Shard Swarm for Shardminds.

I'd assume there'd have to be, yea
/me pokes at the SA feats in Martial Power
(though, I don't know why Backstabber doesn't show up when you search the compendium for "Sneak Attack")

Essentials update hasn't applied yet.
I see Bleeding Backstab

Backstabber was from PHB1

oh, there's more than one page

Sort by name, and it'll help.

there's a Page: 1 2 selector down the bottom

@Kedearian There is only one easy exit. They will find it difficult to run

@BrianBallsunStanton What about northward? I mean, if they don't mind abandoning the wagon?

10:55 PM
@Iszi A rock was dropped on his head when he was young? It shouldn't be down by 5.
@Iszi light forest that way, difficult terrain

@BrianBallsunStanton And yours as well? Forgetting he's a she once more?
:-)

What?
::shrug::
Just woke up.

Do surprise rounds not still occur in initiative order?

They ... do?

how's it matter, though?
just me and Therin in the surprise round

10:59 PM
But I see only one action declared, therefore it gets resolved when i wake up
(and Serai, technically)

@Sohum I may have missed it, but don't think Therin rolled init? Or Serai?

oh, yeah

but since only one person bothered responding to my instructions, ::shrug::
they get what they asked for?

@BrianBallsunStanton Could be side-effect of the whole asynch thing? They just haven't gotten to it yet? Though, I think @CRoss has been around... and, dangit - forgot who controls Therin again.

Yes, neither rolled init. This makes me very grumpy.
Is side effect of asynch.
Serai has indeed rolled init

11:01 PM
Should we establish a standard timeout after which another player, or the DM, decides action?

Well, technically as that was the intent...
Yes.

Perhaps intent needs declaration.
I'm guessing, 24 hours from the time action becomes necessary?

Yes.
Well, no, here's how I'm going to do it.
24 hours after the call to action, the round is resolved if everyone has not yet acted.

I disagree.

Principle players' moves will always be used. Anyone else may, at any time during that, suggest moves for a character.
So it's a rough voting system, rounds are 24 hours apart.

11:05 PM
One person's action may be dependent upon the actions of someone who comes ahead of them in initiative.
Therefore, it should be 24 hours after their turn in initiative comes up.

Oh gods no.

Especially for those who act after the monsters.

And if it's dependent, then throw in conditionals. I'll always tell you guys what the monsters are doing at the start of the round.
like I did this round.

Ummm... no you didn't. They haven't even rolled init.
Then again, we haven't exactly had a full round yet, so perhaps that's unfair to say.

they ... have rolled init.
Current initiative order:

Sam: 22
Serai: 19
Zankul: 16
Acolytes (Burly guys): 15

Peng (Yellow robe dude): 11
14 damage taken

Rihkim: 11

11:08 PM
Missed that... where do we see it?

That is in the map notes, public. also referenced

Oh, thanks.
Still... just as the DM can't be expected to plan for every contingency, why expect that of players?

@BrianBallsunStanton you have to register to see the map's public notes?

um
they're...
do you really?

Yeah... ANOTHER site to register to?

11:13 PM
@BrianBallsunStanton I think so. Can't find a way to not have to register.

(Sorry, that's just getting really annoying.)

okay, that is annoying
wasn't intentional. Will port over to wave
now on wave
cause yeah, no
Better?

@BrianBallsunStanton So, comment on chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/21723#21723 ?

None, really

Better.

11:16 PM
You know, in general, what the monsters are doing
basically checking in twice in 24 hours should be sufficient?

Theoretically, until one person lags for one reason or another.

Step 1: establish an SOP for your character
or allow other people to vote them
::sigh:: back in 2 hours

@Brian, is the different kind of green forest-y thing around 15x10 as relative to the forest about it significant?

@Sohum Quick guess, is that it's just normal forest.

Thought so

11:41 PM
do i get a suprise action?

@Kedearian No. You weren't stealthed.
@Kedearian If anything, the monsters would get a surprise round against you.

@iszi fine.. i set the forest on fire, in a non-suprising way

@Kedearian Still, it seems you need to declare a plan of action for when your place in the initiative order comes around.
24-hour timer on that.

I assume if I go to 14x8 and hide, the guy at 13x9 can see me and the guy at 13x6 can't. So, 1) can the guy at x9 let the guy at x6 know where I am, and 2) if the guy at x6 chooses to move down to attack Therin, he sees me when he comes into range, yes, but can he react to that immediately or is he locked into his predetermined action?

@Sohum Overthink, much?

11:47 PM
are we putting our actions in the wave or where?

Hush, you :P

@Kedearian Good point.

I'm just trying to work out if I can get an OA in

Surprise action, not surprise round, right?

a surprise round allows for one action
it's weird

11:53 PM
yeah

oh wait. you lose stealth if you don't have cover or concealment anymore

yes

but being adjacent to them doesn't break cover, it breaks concealment

@BrianBallsunStanton Suggestion: Identify monsters in initiative order by character-known details, not monster names.

so if I go to 14x8 and hide, I guess neither of them can see me until they try to move into my square or I make an OA

11:55 PM
i only roll damage once for this or?

@BrianBallsunStanton Am I supposed to be down 5 hp?

@CRoss No. See chat log,.

@Iszi do i also move the horse?

@Kedearian What are you doing, D-Scramb?
