you're load balancing different areas of the disk platter, potentially, even if slower, and zfs is scalable so it's great for the next facebook killer, and anything running on Solaris must be DDoS proof

As much as it's good to stretch my regex muscle, those are kinda gray area. I have a hard time thinking they belong at webmasters but they land over there sometimes.. Maybe that's just because the webmasters that I've known have been pretty hopeless at that kind of thing.
@Holocryptic Haha, I quit years ago (burning crusade), reactivating for a month for the more recent expansions each. But, with a quick guilty glance at curse, my swan song addon is still being maintained by the community and is nearing 5 million downloads.. so that's cool.
@ShaneMadden The cons are sooo much fun. I have bragging rights to being among the first in the world to be able to play the monk class for Diablo 3, as well as the new races for Cataclysm. Just awesome times, really.

Moving some departments over to resource mailboxes from public folder calendars for conference room scheduling was about the worst exchange related experience that I've had - they couldn't understand to send it an appointment instead of creating one directly. Windows XP? Event logs a huge list. Windows 7? All it needed was fast, realtime search/filter of the list. Instead, it got GUI bloat big enough to cast a shadow the other side of Lake Michigan, and split into a dozen extra logs

@TessellatingHeckler That's what changing their shell is for ;). I think powershell was completely ruined for me the first time I tried to pipe Get-CASMailbox into Get-ActivesyncStatistics.

@TessellatingHeckler but you can't pipe in a mailbox from Get-Mailbox, or a mailbox from Get-CASMailbox. Can't pipe in a list of mailbox strings, either. Must get mailbox string from somewhere and foreach it in.
imho, the simplicity is there. if you want a simple and powerful scripting language - it's there. If you want a hundred thousand little cmdlets optimized for specific tasks - also there

@Holocryptic Heh. Back in '09, an MS patch to stop sending the local computer's hostname in the phase 1 negotiation broke a third party application of ours that was using cheesy HTTP authentication with NTLM. Had to prove to them that their application didn't implement the protocol correctly.
Staring at NTLM negotiation for a while gives you a deep appreciation for the difference between 07b208a2 and 078208a2

Trying to migrate a system from an outside source to internal and wanted to know if I could throw it on an older barely used host (as it's temporary) instead of our "production" duct-taped system that's running 4.x
@Pauska: Can't. It was a scrap system that was an old NAS appliance, the boss wanted to have a WDS server and wanted it installed on that. There was no way to get Win2008 on it without bending backwards in the time allotted. So I installed ESXi and virtualized it. Because it's an old appliance, the processor doesn't support 4.x
We didn't have the USB reinstall thumbdrive, you'd have to inline some drivers to get 2008 to work on it, there was no built-in CD drive, it was just a royal PITA.
But ESXi installed without any hiccups. Just had to be the old version.
