@CAI you forgot to convert to Lab before adding light beams :D

Cai
@Ryan I know! Vital step!
You should just go through all the Photoshop answers and edit "First, convert to Lab" in
;-)
hahaha I didn't realise you actually posted another answer using Lab

:)
But really it does help for a vast number of things. Like the tutorial I posted simply wouldn't work as well in RGB

Cai
Honestly, I've used it maybe a handful of times ever

Once I learned it for the first time I never looked back unless its something I simply can't do in it. A few adjustment layer functions and filters if I really need them don't work in it for example

Q: What are the pros and cons of using Lab color?

CaiI often see suggestions of converting an image to the Lab color model when editing images in, for example, Photoshop. What are the pros and cons of doing this? Are there specific functions or tasks that Lab color will help me with, and are there any specific cases when I shouldn't use Lab color?...

One for you @Ryan ;-)

@Cai I bet Rafael will answer it

Cai
Might stick a bounty on it

Ill answer in a day or two see if maybe someone else picks it up first. I had left that fix reflection question for a day hoping someone would offer something useful
I was actually surprised no beginners posted something like, "select color range and fill with red then lower the opacity" or something of that nature

Cai
Yeh I was expecting that

Someone asked me how to match Gucci looking colors. They then decided they want that look on a photo of an Indian girl just to complicate things (cause they're Indian or maybe Pakistani I'm really not sure)
I'm trying to not only give them a tutorial but squeeze it into 60 seconds. So far my best has been 3 minutes

11 hours later…
12:40 PM
sneif, no vincent :(

1 hour later…
2:04 PM
morning @Cai

Cai
afternoon @Ryan

so weird. I have two pieces of text that as best I can tell have the exact same settings but look different in size

Cai
@Ryan in?

right now just in Photoshop. I always start in Photoshop and then rebuild it in InDesign when I finish the design
supposedly those are the same size and font and everything
they are very clearly not the same
I could just retype one of them but I really want to know what I'm missing

Cai
Sure you havn't got any horizontal scaling on either of them?

2:13 PM
(it doesn't show Kano only because 25 is in myriad (Kano has no numbers))

Cai
Ah... Just did a little test

there with 25 removed so it can show Kano

Cai
if you transform the textbox (cmd+t) it still shows the normal text values
so theres prob no way to get it back to normal
just copy/paste into a new text box
basically never transform paragraph text :)

I don't remember how long its been updated but for quite a while now Photoshop updates the text size if you scale
And I just confirmed it. I transformed both and both now show 18.82. One still clearly being larger than the other
I'm about to chalk this up to a bug

Cai
Yeh it updates text size but it doesnt update scaling
well it doesnt in cs6
try stretching the textbox

2:20 PM
what do you mean doesn't update scaling but updates text size?

Cai
stretch the box in one direction only.. it'll squash the text but the scaling will still say 100%

ah I must've done that by mistake instead of transforming the text box for the text justification.
Guess I so rarely make mistakes I didn't know that could even happen hah :D
thanks!

Cai
:)

I think I'm going to leave a very, very long answer to your Lab question. Probably with video too

Cai
do it
not too long though... I've been known to downvote answers just for being too long ;-)

2:36 PM
well I guess the question is do you want to know about actual usage or just theory pros and cons?
usage examples could get pretty extensive. Theory Pros and Cons would be much shorter but also less useful in terms of what it means in application

Cai
hmmm... yeh like you said usage examples would be more useful. I'm definitely interested in the theory though

A: Why did the size of copied elements from Illustrator to Photoshop change?

Bool76I'm with ConeHead (first time I've ever said anything like that). I would work with an img that would be 35x35 in Illustrator. However when I opened it up in Photoshop, it would not keep the same dimensions; it would be much larger. This would drive me insane. Both of my rulers in Illustrator and...

is that an answer?

uhh this entire question and answer is so wordy
"The first day," "However on day two," nobody cares!

Cai
The previous answer that answer is referring to isn't much better

Yeah I don't think Coneheads is an answer at all and dont think the new one really is either
they're trying to be. Could be downvote worthy but on a 5 year old question I don't see a point in upvoting or downvoting or really paying attention to it

Cai
I protected it anyway

2:48 PM
I flagged it as not an answer, as I don't believe it's an answer. And I added a comment

Im going to mark your flag helpful but not take action on it. I was in the middle of typing a comment but just up-ticked your comment instead

as to point the new user in the right direction (which I hope I did)

I don't see it as worthy of being deleted or anything

yeah that's fine I think, unless enough people flag the same it's not worth bothering about it

@Cai my answer to your Lab question is opening with an introduction to drugs haha seriously

Cai
2:56 PM
hahahaha
Nice! I'm a bit busy for now, I'll give it a read in a bit

3:09 PM
@Cai oh it wont be done for a while. Probably this evening unless I manage to get it done around 4:30 when things slow down
@sojmoore greetings

@Ryan Hey!

3:24 PM
@sojmoore dont believe Ive seen you in here before. New to the site?

@Ryan Yep, this is only my second time in here. I've used Stack Exchange as a reference before but just recently started contributing to the forums and Q&A.

Do you work as a graphic designer?

@Ryan Web designer

You don't need to ping me on every message :)
especially with you editing them I just keep hearing "dings" go off on my computer lol

Whoops, sorry! Still new at this
It's a little different on every chat site

Cai
3:40 PM
@Ryan ding ding
@Ryan
lol sorry

@Ryan @Ryan hi
@Ryan how are you this day?

muted my computer volume for one cause I hat you all :P

lol poor @Ryan it's like the Milgram Experiment @Ryan .Over. @Ryan

y'all cant bring me down

3:47 PM
Hail Vacuum Dog

happy hump day

supposed to be a nice labor day weekend. I shall enjoy this and host a BBQ

-.-

3:52 PM
hurricanes and tropical storms here

oh that's right, that hurricane supposed to come close to tampa it looked like

yeah you're sending us a hurricane from Florida supposedly
there's a huge Music Festival on here this weekend...supposedly they'll be blown away
Is this your idea of candy swap, Ryan? ;(

@johnp huh? I'm not organizing it. If someone else really organizes it I'll participate

Cai
I want in on candy swap!

3:55 PM
bad joke...I'm feeling very off today. I want in too, just not sure what sort of candy (if any) is traditional round here
ooh nice pic

@Cai I've moved on from drugs to Pink Floyd in my answer to your question lol its going to be an epic answer
(and I may have just come up with a title for the book I plan to eventually write)

Cai
haha im looking forward to it

:O

4:32 PM
oooh no. Instagram allows zoom now but only on iOS

@Cai what is candy swap?

Not a fan. Just say no to pixel peeping

Cai
@Ryan get ready for the "why is my instagram pixelated????" questions

seriously

Cai
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ Think it was joojaas idea, we all send eachother local candy or something

4:34 PM
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ A few of us were thinking it would be nice to send each other candy

ah man my kids and wife would eat it all, lol

Cai
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ same here! I'm sure that would earn me some points though :)

can't think of any irish candy

I don't remember if I close a Question it stores a draft. If I open a different question will that draft still be there?
Maybe I should copy and paste my Lab Epic into notepad

Cai
@Ryan it will as long as you don't start writing something on a different Q... I think. You only get one draft I believe
I remember seeing something about it on meta.se

4:42 PM
ill just copy and paste it to be safe. Cant lose my epic

Cai
anyway I'm off, I'm late and we've got visitors
later people

@Ryan you should look into evernote
@Cai later

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I dont like it

O_O
what dont you like?
it's great to script against with AppleScript, but that's me, lol

I have no need for additional applications that don't serve my needs

5:15 PM
I have an Evernote subscription but I'm gunna cancel it
the only thing I'll miss is the webclipper. But they're increasing their fee and I dont think it's worth it when Onenote offers most features for free (even though I don't like microsoft)
I'll also miss pdf embedding/searching ;(

I figured this was an American abomination but I didn't know it was so localized to me

omg that's awful! lol

I should really be making this answer into a post on my website and/or youtube

so.. if we are sending each other sweets can I just send you guys some southern sweet fruit tea?

after reading some history articles on the Irish famine recently, it's much darker than it seems.... they dont publish everything in school history curriculum books to maintain friendly relations with Britain, but the facts are very depressing indeed

5:24 PM
Technically speaking does it matter from a copyright perspective if I post it to SE before I post it to my own site?

no, you still retain the copyright

cool then ill hopefully finish up my answer at work but then make it a blog post when I get home

you're still free to assign whatever license you want on your website, but by posting it on SE it just gives it an automatic CC-BY SA 3 license. So anything stricter on your website would be superceded
but you can go the other way and post it on your site under CC0 / Public Domain

I thought I maintain all copyright if I post it to my site first
I guess I need to look into the license side of it though

order makes no difference
regardless of publishing stuff on SE under an automatic CC-BY SA 3 license, you always still remain the copyright. It's still your content, not SE's
the important takeaway from that is if you post it to SE first, you don't have to cite your SE post as a reference since it's your content
that's all a long winded way of saying "you're good, don't worry about it"
overkill of the day: dunno where either of our two small paper cutters are, using the enormous 350 sheet guillotine cutter to cut one piece of vellum :)

5:45 PM
lol I love overly dramatic solutions to little problems @JohnB xD

I'm trying to do a quick screen print job but I'm using a screen that was coated a mystery number of weeks ago
I don't have much faith in this being successful
surprise, it didn't

6:35 PM
Aw it didn't work out?
I've never done a screen print before

nice! but not when I don't have a monitor
maybe I should get for the office though, and by that I mean have the company buy a few

...will you ask your company to get some marker nibs pour moi? :3 they sound very nice

2 hours later…
8:56 PM
lmao

9:15 PM
Alright time to finish this hyuge answer to CAI before I go to the gym

what's the question on @Ryan

No competition coming up, no reason to deal with it

hope it doesn't get too bad. gunna study arm muscles now actually lol. it's not as tiring :3

9:41 PM
oh its really bad out. If it wasn't miserable I would've gone to the gym

hmm... that same storm is on its way here...not sure if im going to that festival i mentioned earlier...the tickets are sold out but all my friends are going there before they head off to canada

Q: Why do the toys blink alternately?

user35594This happens quite often in the first Toy Story film, not so much in the second (and haven't seen the third yet) where the toys blink one eye after the other instead of at the same time. Is there any particular reason for this either in-universe or out? Example:

That question has totally ruined toy story for me...

Cai
o_O

I'm about 95% confident that laser cat one is actually @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ

Cai
9:52 PM
hahahaha
some of those are incredibly creepy

There's a lot to digest on that page...

the kid in the karate looking outfit. I really had something like that. It was on a baseball card with my stats and a chuck norris quote on it haha
I probably still have it somewhere too

haha the one beside him looks like the guy from Making a Murderer. Btw I haven't watched that doc
you have to find it @Ryan !

just checked the one place I'd have it and it wasn't there so its probably in my mom's possession

10:45 PM
@Cai enjoy

10:56 PM
haha i love the melodramatic opening quote
it's perfect lol
forget the candy swap; we should send each other fungi

I aim to please
I dont know about shipping internationally, probably not the best idea

:) hehe excellent answer. I did wonder about the quality differences with rgb plus luminosity curves
lol i feel like a dealer every time i collect my mail. i use a deposit box service
all i ever collect are innocuous things like art supplies and books though police are known to watch those collections lol

well rain mostly stopped and its still early enough I can go get a workout in. later

lol you make life seem too effortless @Ryan ! cya later
