Am I missing something here....crazy typeface deal on fonts.com
https://www.fonts.com/font/monotype/libraries/the-foundation-collection?utm_source=Fonts.com+Newsletter&utm_campaign=e4963afe3b-FlashSale-FoundationCollection-June2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e51d04a305-e4963afe3b-65198021
Avenir Next, Baskerville, New Haas Unica, Din Next and others....?
oh and Trade Gothic....that one's missing from my library

glad to see everyone is working hard :)

@PieBie morning
oh perfect @JohnB was just debating which mod to ping

Q: How to delete a specific shape from an image without rasterizing the shape?

userI have the following image: I want to cut the volume slider and acheive the following result: Actually I made this a month ago. But now when I tried using the same method it is not working. I made two circles with shape tool then combined them and deleted the intersecting smaller circle...

I just deleted my answer. Should we delete some of the other obviously incorrect ones? I'd hate to downvote and fault the people answering because the question was terrible

I hadn't seen this question so I'll give you my general advice rather than make you wait while I read it all
if an answerer misunderstood the question and is answering something else entirely, it's not an answer and should be removed
if an answer technically answers the question (but goes about it the "wrong" way), then it should stay but it subject to downvotes at user discretion

hello room

hey johnp

@JohnB I left the two answers that have been posted since final edits were made, CAi's which was marked correct and Kelly's which will probably be downvoted

mornin @JohnB

1:02 PM
sounds good to me

any of you have a look at those typefaces? looks like a great deal for 99...dunno if ill go for it. i know one of the avenir next weights is like 80ish anyway
what i like about it is that it bundles many of the essential fonts missing from my typekit subscription...albeit desktop only licenses

I was just peeking at them, some nice ones in there

i always spot these deals when im trying to save for something else though xD

@johnp an old member Scott would find amazing bundles on typefaces way less than $99. I've seen a few. Let me see if I can track any down for you

oh that would be great @Ryan :) i've heard of people buying old corel software to acquire font licenses that were bundled with it...though the trouble with type is that the more you read the snobbier your tastes get...like with wine xD

1:07 PM
hah very true!

1:21 PM
Just be weary some of these "massive discounts" are arbitrary in my opinion. But Scott would swear by stuff like this to grow his library
This wasn't the site he used though, I don't remember which that was

thanks Ryan, I'll have a look
id like to invest in a good family for text setting and small caps...though not sure
Arnhem is nice

Sure, I can email Scott and ask him at some point
You might be able to just find a font related question on here he's answered and leave him a comment. Not sure he'll reply though

that's very kind of you! you dont need to go to any trouble though :)

1:53 PM
what i really would want to get is this font but its too expensive for me

the lighter weight in the second image reminds me of your font @joojaa

yeah

if I were to buy a font I'd get something from these guys houseind.com/fonts

love neutraface
the story behind Chalet is kinda funny

they're pretty expensive but the fonts are so nice and have all the ligatures and options and such

1:56 PM
they made up a fake font history profile for Chalet, interesting how arbitrary font info can be
it was done as a joke i think lol

I like VELO and Eames a lot
The numbers on Eames is what does that one for me

yeah they look quite nice

but I have no need for spending that much on a font now, probably ever

I used Cronos for my personal id project in the end
there are a lot of good quality open source fonts these days
i notice that many are on platforms like github...i wonder how that works? can anyone make alterations/improvements?
i would love to work on something like that...though i would need more expertise for fine tuning lol and it would be nice if someone would do the kerning tables for me xD

@johnp yes you can fork and then make alterations ans ask the owner to merge your changes
or then not

2:12 PM
sounds like fun!

VFX reel for Game of Thrones S06E09, totally in awe of how seamless the result was. It amazes me how rapidly CGI has progressed in a relatively short amount of time

that font you worked on....was it written in svg? is it more common to design it that way these days?
im just thinking in terms of creating dynamic weights.... think i posted this before @joojaa but it looks interesting http://metapolator.com/home/
the counters and calligraphic stress is maintained nicely

no i worte it in postscript as it has more descriptive punch than svg

ah cool

so postscript has the command arct (see ref) that darws a corner that's rounded. Also since its a programming lanuage i can extend the vocabulary on the fly... so i can relatively easily do stuff like this:

2:23 PM
@JohnB that is cool!

@PieBie once in a time we used to have fonts like this in illsutrator
The font industry is backpedaling
So now we are going to have the same features as in previous life 20 years ago with svg thats noth worse than the original implementation and takes more space

@joojaa thanks...looks daunting though I've bookmarked it for a rainy day :P @JohnB that is impressive

@JohnB don't you spoil it! I'm on episode 3 of season 6

anyway you can do stuff like this quicly

@Ryan I wouldn't dare!

2:34 PM

fantastic season though, you're in for a treat

put it in css and step
Its basically same drawing rotated in z

in postscript?
you drew it in 3 dimensions?

yes

wow interesting...
as i said before...the sad thing about life is knowing that you won't have time to learn everything you want to know xD

2:43 PM
i can ship example

haha yes

save the text in a text file (on windows and maybe mac with eps ending)
then drag and drop it in illsutrator

blown away by how concise it is

results in:
Now heres the bonus round once you have this in illustrator change the line:

im on linux at the minute but ill see if inkscape will open it

2:47 PM
/a -5 def to say /a 15 def
and illustrator will update it
dot use inkscape in that case use ghostscript

ill give it a go later when im on windows...thanks though, looks interesting

after change in rotation param

just thinking of ways i could use this in my illustration work

and see illustrator update the placed image magically

be interesting to see if it can be warped in 3d with some sort of glitchart algorithm

2:50 PM
basically same technique

very nice

you can also do barcodes with eps or others tuff

wow

@Luciano hi
heres the house badly animated in css (automatic margins on png export make it impossible to make it stay in place)

most satisfying article of the day: slate.com/articles/life/scocca/2012/05/…
all this time I just thought I was really bad at browning onions. Those filthy lying recipe writers

haha that's strange @JohnB i dont ever remember doing it for 45 mins...
you want them completely liquidized?
brings back memories of my terrible college pasta cooking xD

well 45 would be for caramelized which I rarely do, but my onions are never "medium brown" after 5 minutes

ah yes...not unless they're burnt lol
i miss carbonnara
lol just realized the irony of carbs in carbonnara

I'm looking at credit cards. Going to get a new one before I buy the monitor

4:43 PM
have you got one in mind? Or a shortlist?

monitors or credit cards?

credit cards

Fidelity's Visa and either AmEx Blue or AmEx Blue Preferred

ooo, 2% cash back on everything, that's nice

going to probably get two, if I can buy the monitor at a good price off Amazon I'll get the Amex first and then in a few months from now get the Fidelity otherwise I'll get the Fidelity first
AmEx is 3% Cash Back at Grocery Store or 6% if I go with the Preferred, and the grocery store sells Amazon Gift Cards
But so far the best deal on the monitor was Newegg which would be 1% on Amex vs 2% on Fidelity

4:50 PM
what monitor you getting Ryan?

ASUS PA249Q

ah the one you showed me before
if i dont get a pen display i may copy you in future lol
now that you've done all the research for me :P

Ill let you know if it works well

used a pricechecker on it out of curiosity...it's more expensive over here
bout 540 dollars
may end up going with dell instead

5:06 PM
A refurbished one is available on Newegg for $290 USD otherwise new its anywhere from $450 to $500 USD

ahh they sell to ireland
