@ZachSaucier ya wasn't even paying attention.. I wont lie, lol

...been drooling at medium format cameras lately... :/ there just doesn't seem to be an affordable way into it xD a digital back for a film Mamiya 645 is only $25000 or so...
a decent film scanner is about 1500...which sounds easier lol

@johnp ya good luck with that. If I could stop time Id also add photography but I dont even take pics on my phone

yeah...it's an expensive thing to take up, but it seems like the one medium where i can illustrate quickly and efficiently

ya I have a friend that took it up. Dropped a 2k camera and broke it.. was like.. WOOOOW

oh nooo
id have to insure the hell of whatever i buy

12:12 AM
they did. Insurance doesn't cover accidental damage.

what does it cover! :O theft only i guess
that's horrible

yep
I think the insurance company finally payed since they never filed a claim before

one thing that bugs me a lot lately is how dependent designers are on technology
if my computer decided not to turn on one day, my life would end

@johnp backups, backups, backups

i dont want to be dependent on a machine to be financially viable lol
i know, i do but still, the principle of it...

12:15 AM
@ZachSaucier I have three NASs, lol
not to mention several external drives
but I always get my gear around Oct-Dec for all the deals

dorotapankowska.com/13-animals-13-circles.html where'd that icon-design-from-circles question go? haha

lol did they delete it?
i think i'd probably do that to tbh xD
or I wouldn't use the real one in the first place

12:31 AM
later

@Darth_Vader later, have a good'un

3 hours later…
3:35 AM
Ay, the Worldbuilding designer listened to my suggestion about the logo :)

A: Worldbuilding Site Design

Zach SaucierMake the world in the logo a little bigger. From a visual perspective, the world in the logo could be a little bigger to make it have equal weight to the other letters in my opinion, especially in the non-colored version. Here's a rough, low quality example of what it'd look like (top - origina...

I even refer to a GD post I made :D

Ah. Memorial Day. The room is ours, fellow non-Murricans! :D

12:08 PM
@Jenna I agree with your assessment of graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/71769/…, but I'm not going to reverse @Darth_Vader 's closing without taking it up with him first. Thanks for the heads-up!

hey @Vin! Is it raining as much there as it is here?

@PieBie nope, it's dry here

oh, lucky. In BE it's like someone just opened heaven's floodgates on us... :s
Was I correct in calling him out btw? I think a user of his rep should know better:

Q: GIMP, match images based on shared point

dave_does_not_understandI am not a graphics design person and I think I may be looking for the correct language to ask the question more than anything. I have two maps that I cannot get to match up (scales are incorrect or they were scanned incorrectly. On the maps there are common points shared by both e.g. a buildin...

12:23 PM
I see no wrong in what you wrote
A bit of exmplanation with that link is very welcome, @Pie

k thanks, I'm always weary of calling out other users, because I always feel like I'm such a captain Know-it-all

But in his case, flagging as too broad is the way to go

indeed. Gonna leave it to him. After that, comments can be cleaned for my part.

I'll add a stock comment for low-effort questions and leave it at that. Thanks for the heads-up
If I vote for 'too broad', I hammer it close. The problems of a mod :P

12:56 PM
wow I see what you mean @Pie

@Vincent yeah, just had to call the fire department because our cellar is overflowing °_0

oof!
wet feet!

yeah, not cool. So here's to getting any work done today...

1:37 PM
@Pie Avondvierdaagse got cancelled, though, due to the predicted weather
haven't seen that happen before. Is the weather getting worse, or is society more skittish?
any damage to the office?

That's too bad, Avondvierdaagse looks like fun (though I've never participated myself)
Both.
For now no, though the smell is godawful

eh
bring out the pine smell sprays

2:01 PM
Hi all.
anybody near Sittard? I have to travel to there this evening... Hope it won't rain much :$

@Luciano It will
at least, prediction animations I saw show intermittent but heavy rain and lightning in that area for the entire evening

:(
I was hoping to get there back and home dry

you can always hope ;P

4:00 PM
I tried to write another design-focused non-implementation question, but I seemingly can't come up with one that I don't know how to answer myself. Hopefully it's still useful for people :P
Let me know if you guys think it's a bad question, I'm fine with turning it into a blog post of mine

1 hour later…
5:02 PM
@ZachSaucier why not make it and still answer it? still better then How-to's

I did :P
waaark.com/vision - delicious transitions

is that yours?

nope, though it's something I could do
you'd just have to pay me for it :D
because that's a lot of work

Ive want to build something like that for my next personal project

The type of thing I love to do is make tools for making things like that easier to make
but those are even more work

5:05 PM
ya I find that is very re-warding
does SO have a tag for DRY?

5:33 PM
@ZachSaucier I have a debate for you, does id come before class, lol

@Darth_Vader yes

@ZachSaucier ill let you know when I post after some more attempts.

5:54 PM
hi

hola

do you think my edit is overkill?

Q: How are these swirly, line frames made?

MrMerrick I love and have always been mystified by this kind of swirly design. After +10yrs working as a graphic designer, I still can't wrap my head around how those are done. Geometric curved design in general. How do they connect their different parts so seamlessly? It can't be a single piece made ...

I think it's more than deserved but not overkill

You know @ZachSaucier that my initial thought on the fact that he told us he has been doing this for 10 years and yada is a bit unprintable

what do you mean "unprintable"?
ya, it's kind of silly

6:29 PM
@joojaa great answer.. i now want to make sqiggly line

Yeah it was actually fun to do, unfortunately i was halted by having to pick the kids up

dang kids

@joojaa ha mine were gone all weekend, bachelor weekend!

gotta go and sing a bedtime story

@joojaa Cute mustache

6:34 PM
yeah

6:45 PM
After all that work one could have just graphed the function:
20*cos(t)-10*sin(5*t+PI/2)
20*sin(t)+10*cos(5*t+PI/2)

@joojaa not everyone thinks in terms of functions :)

@ZachSaucier no but it is easier to repeat

agreed

Do you use my graphing script by the way?
Ive been trying to get a combo box done so that you could have many presets stored for later reference. But i would need to redo most of my gui

I don't know what script you're talking about nor do I have much of a reason to use any graphing tool :P

6:56 PM
the jooGraphFunction script

I don't even have Adobe programs any more, haha

ah

I'm such a designer, I know ;)

there is a graphing tool in Inkscape

I only use graphical editors for assets on personal projects, which only come around like 3-4 times a year

6:59 PM
Yes i understand that

that's why I'm so bad at using them, haha

Well not everybody need to do those things.

'course

I do a lot of illustration and im mechanical engineer i do not have to.
Except that when I dont they come saying couldn't you draw a picture... We know you can.

haha

7:09 PM
is there a HTML controller for matrixes? @ZachSaucier
i kinda made one but it sux

what do you mean, "HTML controller"?

something like this
copy it down im deleting the link

go for it
... 1 min, got to do some stuff for the fam

I really wouldn't want to build my own

I mean you could use a table

7:20 PM
yes but i was more after the whole shebang, able to math typeset insert text and udate visualisation. But i wouldt want to maintain the code...
But yes i will switch to a table
@ZachSaucier is the helsinki logo question a duplicate of:
2
A: How do I create a depth illusion effect with a spots pattern in Illustrator?

martinHow about doing it manually? You could print out dotted array in appropriate aspect ratio, manually fold printout to desired effect, photograph under well-lit conditions, threshold it in Photoshop & get paths via magic wand selection & import to Illustator & use pathfinder to isolate / colour.

link to the other?

Q: How to design something like this?

NickI would like to design something like this but I am not sure how. Any tips on how I could replicate this text effect? Thanks :)

That's one answer to it, perhaps. I wouldn't VTC it as such though
pool party \o/
