Howdy everyone! :D

[wave]

/me wakes back

What's new?

Just got photoshop and all the other CC software bundle
Decided I should come here to leech off all your knowledge :D

Shiny.
I'm still using CS6, myself. Not really in love with the cloud.

12:17 AM
lol the cloud seems great, seems like a huge leap for me from CS5 :P

Oh, the programs themselves look shiny.
I'm not thrilled with the service implementation though.

Ouch, lucky I haven't used it enough to see any faults :D

Like, I live in a place where Internet access and electricity is sometimes unreliable.
But you can't open a CC program unless you're connected to the Internet.

D: I didn't think of that

And CC files aren't backwards-compatible with CS editions of the same programs, so I can't just use CS6 when the Internet is down.

12:20 AM
:( that's sad, hey have you said any of that on the adobe forums?
Maybe they can add a offline mode :P

These are well-known marginalisation issues.

poo :( hopefully it'll get implemented in the future

When Adobe's servers go offline, the entire world can't open CC programs. That hasn't moved them either.

:P lucky for me, I still have gimp as a backup

Enough of my griping. What sort of projects are you using Adobe for?

12:24 AM
So AP tests are next week and after that I'll be pretty much done with school so I'll have lots of free time :D
I'm kinda good at making game assets with Blender and decide that I could use photoshop to make much better textures :P

Cool.

Then I'll just release free game assets packs when I make enough :)
Hey BESW what do u do?

I won't be very helpful with those specific tasks, unfortunately.

Nah don't worry :P I don't like asking bothersome questions :D

I'm focused on print media like posters and magazines, with some logo work and the like.

12:26 AM
o.O so nice

Thank you.

I'm pretty bad compared to you guys, I was just playing around with my wacom tablet today :P

Practice, practice, practice.

lol no one will fall for a bad peel trick
Yep!
Practice is the best :D
Cya BESW I gotta finish my hw ;(

@TheMuffinCoder For me the biggest gripe on CC is as follows:
Illustrator has no real advancements. The feel of many tools is now worse than beford (given tgat this is the only reason i use the software this is a huge deal) Bugs in tge svg engine. Its nolonger possible to nest symbols (really, why downgrade software). Some bugs in the snapping of illustrator (again huge deal) . And so on
The subscription model allows adobe to slack with quality control the upgrades are mostly badly executed and theres really no way for me to vote with my feet whan they do a lemon upgrade. On the lomg run this spells bad things for users.

10:41 AM
Yar. Adobe has so little competition that their changes are mostly motivated by short-term gains for stockholders.
Long-term, they're effectively twiddling their thumbs until some other company steals their thunder.

Really terrific video, at the 30 minute mark she discusses Monitor Calibration, Photoshop Color Management, and getting accurate color prints: fstoppers.com/education/…

@Ryan bookmarked, colour callibration is a like a Hammer Horror movie to me

the entire video might be good for you. I'm enjoying it a lot. But for most people here that don't do photography the color part might be worth watching at least

have you ever heard of anyone getting their cameras colour callibrated?
or maybe they just said callibrated...in which case they probably meant the sensor/autofocus

Nope never heard of that. But I haven't heard of lots of things
I can't wait to do the shoot I'm planning. After watching that video think I'm going to invest in a ColorChecker, Acekin recommends it too and its something that should be valuable for all shooting so I won't feel like I bought something that I won't use regularly

for callibration? yeah...the colour callib thing i had my eye on is the xrite one that does monitors and printers....it's about 300 though so ill have to want it badly enough :v that's cool, what you have planned?

No not a monitor calibration. I won't get one of those just yet. Just the Passport for now

1:04 PM
i did my first wedding shoot on friday! i thought id die of nerves but once i got into it i was fine
i see

@johnp nice! Engagement session or the full ceremony?
That's going to be the look I'm going for except instead of dumbells I'm going to have the model hold a sledge hammer

wow! look forward to seeing how it turns out!
full ceremony and some pics at a castle afterwards

awesome! congrats on your first one

iTTL saved my life :v by the end of the day i learned how to do manual :v
thanks :)

lol that's cool. Just using an on-camera strobe?

1:14 PM
yep
most ive ever used it, it's really good i must say for one of those cheaper brands
as all flash are disposable anyway, ill probably buy the same one again whenever it runs out
the only hard part is the walk up the aisle! cus it can't be staged lol. luckily i teamed up with a friend for the whole ceremony. so we could get a shot of the groom with the bride walking up from behind, and the bride on her own with her father as they entered the chapel

yongnuo?

cool. I was considering buying a flash but decided to hold off. I think I'd need a really high powered and high speed one to use it in Florida. I'll keep Neewer in mind when I am ready to get one though

it has master mode or whatever so i can get a cheaper flash for a 2 light setup
yeah actually, it takes a lot of juice to outpower the sun
but when you do, you can get some really interesting shots
you might find some use for it indoors/for still life maybe

Yeah going to purchase a reflector holder instead for now and then really think Ill get that color checker. If not the full one I'll get the graycard they make

1:27 PM
it's helpful for a kind of fill-light too to eliminate harsh shadows cast by the sun around the eyes and face

yeah the gray card is $65 the full color one is $99. No point getting the gray card at that point
I was looking at this for my first lighting setup when I do get, ilovehatephoto.com/2014/07/18/…
