4:55 AM
lol
same prob as bente

5:10 AM
hola!

hola

5:26 AM
Does anybody have an idea how I can split an artboard in half while saving as PDF so that 1 artboard = 2 pages?

6:00 AM
@ICanHasKittenz In Illustrator? Simply make 2 artboards, it won't change the art. USe the artboard tool and shrink the exiting artboard to half size, then either copy it (with the copy artwork option UNchecked) or draw a second artboard to fill the other half of the artwork.

6:17 AM
@Scott good idea, I currently have bleeds in my artwork, should I remove them and add only when saving as PDF?
coz there are some pictures that need to stretch across 2 pages

Well, you could copy artwork with the artboard..... Hang on let me configure a screenshot...

Assumed general single artboard...
I'd split into 2 artboards like so...
This retains the bleeds and the artwork within the bleeds
They don't have to be side by side artboards. They'll still be 2 PDF pages
I just copied the single artboard, reduced it by 50% to the left, Then copied the single artboard again and reduces by 50% to the right. Then delete the original artboard (or just print/save as PDF artboards 2 and 3)

awesome! that sounds much easier than what I though, thanks a ton!

No problem :)

6:32 AM
@Scott wouldnt overlapping artboards have done the same?

6:45 AM
@Joojaa yes, but it's easier to explain with non-overlapping artboards. Then once comfortable with that, the user usually figures out that they can overlap and not be a problem. I was shooting for lowest common denominator.

@Scott oh, nice pedagogical theory

Thanks :)

2 hours later…
8:45 AM
Vincent get your swag yet?

het Matt. Nope, prolly because of overseas and all
you were asking aobut clipping your cat's nails yesterday?

Ya
Or a solution
Cause I dont want to hurt her but her claws are tearing everything and myself up

you don't hurt her when clipping her nails correctly
does she go outside?

Ah ok.. no she will never go outside

then you definitely need to clip :)

8:50 AM
We fohnd some caps but she takes em off in 24 hours

I use a regular nail clipper. It's just that you need to be sure that you don't take off ttoo much
claw caps? those exist?
:O

Ya hold on

So fashionable lol
But ill be back around a few hours. Going to get 3 hours or so of sleep

sleep tight
must be middle of the night there

1 hour later…
10:15 AM
@vincent hi

10:47 AM
@joojaa hey @Joojaa

yes yes
:)

how are you?

is the system case sensitive?
boored

dunno

nothing to do

10:49 AM
@JooJaa

nope

@JoOjAa

case insensitive
howcome there are people with same names
how does it resolve that
just thinking out loud

by having each user have a unique number
and when pinging... dunno

yes but i dont give numbers when i talk to say ryan
how does it know what ryan i mean

10:51 AM
I guess it's environment-sensitive and checks for the most recent user that matches your first few characters that did something in here
that's also the case when you mention someone in a comment, it quickly pops up the names of people who have commented before

ah ok
shounds reasonable
im trying to get postscript show a matrix

does it kind of work?

well kindof cant align the items yet
matrix currentmatrix {s cvs show} forall % kindof works

eh... you've already lost me. I have no experience with PS whatsoever

look im talking of making a new matrix movie
simple get current matrix movie and make it a new one :P
PS is easy just say:
newpath
0 0 moveto
10 10 lineto
stroke

11:03 AM
@joojaa ah. I get it. I always thought it such a shame that they never made any sequels to such a great movie

yes
i agree
they could have made grat sequels.
instead theuy choose to dump the entire thing

pity, isn't it?

yes they do that a lot

Just like no one ever had the idea to create any Star Wars movies after the first three

have you seen:
http://www.asciimation.co.nz/

11:09 AM
lol wow

cool aint it was cooler when we still had teletype consoles
ah finally got it:

/mshow {
1 dict begin
/i 0 def
{s cvs show 2 0 rmoveto
i 2 mod 1 eq {0 -3 rmoveto currentpoint 0 exch moveto pop} if
/i i 1 add def} forall
end
} def

11:29 AM
sry, sudden rush job

NP

12:18 PM

12:31 PM
@Vincent welcome back

12:57 PM

nice answer @joojaa

1:18 PM
@Matt TY using @Scott s playbook

ha
watch it he might charge you for that

:p
The new snagit wont let you choose codec :( @Matt any options for snagit

snagit??

you know so faar the best capture tool ever... but downhrading of the pfoduct as made it not so good
probably techsmith.com
This chat works pretty badly on my phone. i can not see what i type half of the time

ya I hate the phone. If you back out you can use the default but when you try that its still hard to use

1:39 PM
@matt or @JohnB do you print towels or know a company that does?

I dont print much anymore. John might be able to help you. Have you thought about consulting a shirt company?

Haven't thought about anything yet. The idea came to me yesterday while at a show and the two people I told both loved the idea. Actually one might try stealing it :X

dont give away your ideas ;)

yeah. Its not a huge deal. If we do it others will soon follow
its just swag

speaking of which.. did you get yours?

1:47 PM
I never got around to filling it out. Thanks for the reminder I'll go do that now
just submitted the form

I think Im taking tomorrow off..

good for you

so how was the show??

2:06 PM
um it wasn't really a show. One of our large distributors was opening a new office in Tampa. It was pretty dead there but might still have been worth it
We got to meet the new people that are going to run that office which is always good since they'll be doing a lot of business for us. Also a higher level guy showed up from San Jose, CA and was very excited to see our stuff. He just came over from a different distributor that doesn't carry us and his first sell in San Jose was a few of our readers last week to a site in Washington state.
Him and I had a good conversation about marketing and the distributors website as well. He wants to make sure our white pages, brochures, and product images are on it which is something I've been trying to get done

yeah I would delete it entirely

I did

What are the odds - a barcode question. Free points for me!

oh ya.. meant to answer that.

2:18 PM
too late :P

damn
they do make invisible ink though

sure they do. It won't work for a barcode though

it can if its converted to SVG

What do you mean if its converted to SVG?
Say you have a handheld barcode reader, how's it going to convert the invisible ink to SVG to then get the data from?

no on the printer level. IF the printer generated their own barcodes in house like some printers do they could print an svg overlay on the cover or interior and it would work. BUT thats all on the printer level

2:24 PM
Ya it seems strange the printer is requiring this to begin with. But I'm still not sure how an SVG overlay could act as an invisible barcode?

I know a few printers that do but they base everything around that barcode

The only way I know of is with invisible inks / flourescents and its very costly requiring special ink, particular papers, and specialized readers. Even then the amount of light used to read it can cause the lines to "bleed" in to each other

@Ryan exactly.. but that's also not what he asked
the only solution would be find a different printer. But most "book" printers will use the barcode as the means to tracking the order.

2:48 PM
Wow the Ikea catalog is almost entirely CG. Thats amazing

really..

what year did the US stock market crash?? was it 05?

would have to google it

someone made an interesting assumption that ponders the mind.

3:00 PM

ha ha

3:35 PM
I remember some good times with tin foil..

4:19 PM
oooheeaaa just spent a fortune on books. Amazon at night is a dangerous place

5:03 PM
I didn't think I was rude at all. Oh well. Guess I should refrain from posting for a bit... maybe I'm just getting bitter and not realizing it. :)

what a rebel

does that link contain content only visible to people with certain priviledges?

huh?
I removed the comments

ah

scott called out the OP for not selecting an answer and the OP got smart back

5:10 PM
k

we need some better questions..

I didn't want MY answer chosen.. but I felt everyone spent quite a bit of time explaining how to improve HIS project and it was really mostly valuable to HIM... to not select an answer seemed, well, ungrateful to me. I merely commented "all that effort int eh answers and you can't pick a correct one?" He responded with "Scott perhaps if you weren't so rude I would." I was taken back by that.

Im not disagreeing

Just explainign since the comments are gone.

but lately I feel like we are doing a lot of work for people and the questions are getting lower and lower

5:14 PM
thanks for that by the way.

for what??

Comment removal

I removed it after he chose an answer..

I agree a LOT of basic app explaining with VERY little effort in questions and VERY little gratitude from those asking questions.

but I dont disagree that we need to inform new users to pick an answer

5:15 PM
I think the site is far more a "software 101 stack" than design any more.

agreed

And all teh design questions are critiques
which is why.. I think we should have a "basic software use" close reason.

i see the pros and cons
the site is fueled by those looking for answers. However, I do think we need to hold a higher standard than questions like this: graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/37933/…

I'm all for allowing more advanced software questions but "how to make a stroke thicker" or "how to set up a new document" are just too basic in my opinion.

I agree.. I even think we have those already but the OP should have shown more effort and possibly images. There wasnt even a question there

5:20 PM
and I DO get that we don't want to promote any type of "elitism" in the questions. new users should be as welcome as more advanced users. I just don't know how to draw that line somewhere. If it's in the help files, perhaps it's not a valid question?? jsut spouting off I guess :)
Like I posted, perhaps I'm jsut getting bitter in my old age :)

BUT you know if we pull an SO people are going to get pissed

yeah, but you don't ALWAYS have to be liked by EVERYONE

im the most hated here.. wbababaaa

uhm.. no. I suspect i am :)

@Scott I think you're getting burned out with GD and some of the new users from what I've seen

5:21 PM
Possibly. I sometimes see questions and can't help but think.... "Are you capable of getting dressed by yourself?"
I don't always understand how someone can be in the business of "design" even as a hobby and have absolutely NO problem solving skills.

I see.. ok.. they've paid me.. crap.. I cant do it.. wait.. I'll go to GD and get a full step by step;)

No.. a step-by-step tutorial

@Scott I dont understand the questions at times

I understand them most of the time.. but face palm a LOT. :)

is that why my head hurts?

5:24 PM
probably. that "Background from Adobe CC" make me spit-take almost :)
Adobe makes 20+ apps
anyway.. perhaps I will just be silent for a bit :)

call me the comment-assassin
@Scott ah dont be like that

Well, I KNOW I'm not the most compassionate and nurturing individual at times. So I may actually not be helping things overall.. I mean.. I try... graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/37938/3270 but it's like hitting a brick wall at times.
anyway... just amazed by users at times. Guess I'm a different sort.

hence the purpose of the downvote system no??

eh.. that does little good for a single user with some other user upvoting most things.

ya.. well atleast you told them.
bet it gets flagged..

5:34 PM
maybe.. doesn't really matter. I was going to flag it, but well.. I feel like I flag too much as is :)
although I do still need ~150 flags for the Marshall badge :)
So.. my desk ready yet?

trying to find another supplier after I ran into the nightmare with the company in regards to my order

for the piping?

no for the fittings

oh well. you don't REALLY need those do you? :)
Duct tape!!!!!!!
It'll look industrial

ha.. no

5:41 PM
So I've realize the culdesack I live on is a bit odd... everyone to the left of my house is 15+ years older than me. Everyone to the right of my house is 15 years younger than me. Guess I bought the right house.

you are the referreee

hope not

5:58 PM
missed that

6:13 PM
Worst 4 words you can hear from a client sometimes... "I showed this to.... "

6:28 PM
@Scott I thought it was "I've been messing with..."

depends upon what follows the ellipses :)
In both cases I guess :)

2 hours later…
8:04 PM
@Ryan nope, I've never done towels

8:14 PM
