I am excited by the prospect of a properly moderated graphic design site. I have traditionally felt that the internet and graphic design discussion do not mix well.
@JohnB Encouraging to see a strong stance taken by a moderator on that "your logo is bad and you don't even know, hire a designer" response.
Something that annoys me about people who don't have a discernment, and then get it, is how freakishly often they want to lord that minor piece of awareness over others instead of making it smoother and easier for others to see what they see.
It's not just graphic design that has this problem, it's other places... But maybe the fact that one can quickly advance in graphic design knowledge makes it a place where people depending on it for income get more territorial about it.
The logo he criticized is unremarkable, sure, but everyone's a critic. It's one thing to say something is bad and quite another to put your own neck on the line and show "I think this would be better" and be specific.

@HostileFork seconded!

@HostileFork your comment there was timely, solid and well formulated; thank you. I could not at the time reply to the poster, as I was getting a little furious :) better to let it lie for a bit then. That people make bad logos - and this is not the worst I have seen by far - is no reason for not treat them decently

Q: The side-by-side revision history is not

JohnBThe diff within revision history for posts are stacked on top of each other instead of side-by-side: Another example

Q: The meta post preview does not have consistent styling applied to hyperlinks

JohnBHere how hyperlinks appear in the editor preview: But here is how they look once posted: The blue styling needs to be applied to hyperlinks in the editor to match up with how they look when posted

Q: 2014 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

Grace NoteIn connection with the moderator elections, we will be holding a Q&A with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is completely voluntary. Here's how it'll work: During the nominati...

hey GDSE chatters! the SE design team is going to be our next podcast guest. do you guys have any topic suggestions or questions you'd like to ask them?

@AbbyT.Miller oooh, exciting! I would love to know what the process is like taking criticism from so many different individuals

woha! elections!

that is a good one @JohnB... that's the part of their job i envy them the least i think

You can't please everyone, but still opinions are voiced and sometimes changes are made based on the complaints input. How does the design team decide which feedback they'd like to incorporate?

@AbbyT.Miller Nice!

@Yisela recording early next week (monday or tuesday), released hopefully by that thursday, if not the following monday (5/5)

yeah, it should be good. it will be a very crowded podcast studio though... three hosts, plus me and four designers!

8:50 PM

really looking forward to candidacies

it certainly will be interesting - will we see your hat there, ms. Yisela?
and mr. John?

Now, I've officially submitted my non-intent to seek election.
Good luck to all of the candidates!

Hey everyone.

@PearsonArtPhoto How many sites are you currently moderating Pearson?
@kaiser Hello!

I hope Yisela and JohnB seek the candidates.

8:53 PM
Already got people who think about electing?

Only 3, including this one.

@PearsonArtPhoto wow - sounds like work

hope you get some good candidates. and hope you get more than three ;)

There's only one mod with more, but any of the SO mods have a higher workload, and I'm sure there are other sites that meet that criteria as well...
@Scott Talent, and Hard Work. That's two, so take your pick;-)

8:55 PM
Hint to those who want to elect themselves: There's a char limit so if you want to link somewhere, go with the short links.
anyway, wish all of your candidates good luck. may the most passionate win!

:)
@RandomO'Reilly you will see my hat

@Yisela good stuff! and you will promise us all doughnuts every friday i take it.

I can do that!
meetings, later!

9:29 PM
er.. wha? huh? @PearsonArtPhoto Oh, I don't want to be a mod.... if that's what you meant. I'd rather feel free to throw around close votes and often as I want :)

10:22 PM
@JohnB you have to reapply?? Weird. And how many mods do we get?

3 mods
and he was "appointed" by SE as the site was in beta, now the community decides

Q: How many moderators do we get?

RyanHow many moderators do get? Debating on nominating others or myself, but if we only get 2 for example I'd be happy leaving it for JohnB and Yisela. (The tag election alone wasn't sufficient for posting, so including discussion tag as well.)

hmm only 3. I think Yisela, JohnB and either Random, Gramps or Myself since we seem to be the ones on the most. If you want it Random you've got my votes especially for your time spent cleaning up tags
@RandomO'Reilly ^

uhmm
not convinced i should be a candidate, but thanks for the trust :)
you should go ahead and nominate yourself, though
write an eloquent election speech :)

Only other people I can think of wanting it is DA01 or user568458 but I doubt either wants it since they don't tend to come into chat which is part of the conflict resolution system from what I've seen.

10:55 PM
well, but since they are not mods, they have not really a reason to
same as me, I do not have to do any conflict resolution, so therefore I stay away
point is, if someone is elected mod, then that would be part of it
yisela and john does it, as part of their responsibility, and new mods would - presumably - do the same
..and there are mods (mainly on other se sites) that are rarely seen, but they do work in the back

hmm can't ping Gramps. He change his name again?

not to my knowledge
check users

did still shows Gramps. Can you ping him?

from here you mean?
he might just be offline

ya like @ G r should show the grey box with the word Gramps in it. Its not for me
doesn't matter if offline

11:05 PM
surely you just write @Gramps

hmm might work but usually would show the grey box thingy @Gramps if you get this let me know if you're game and I'll nominate you for mod

you do not nominate others, you nominate yourself
hi there @BESW - will you be a candidate?

It would be pretty irresponsible of me to throw my hat in the ring.

how come?
you just a visitor?

I'd be a bad moderator. My understanding of the stack philosophy is incomplete and I wouldn't be impartial enough.
People have suggested that I nominate myself in the next election on another Stack site, so I've thought about it.

11:17 PM
well, that is sound enough reason, but i think the learn-as-you-go goes for mods as well

(Also, I have very little understanding or experience with the majority of the kind of question this site works with--digital/web/app design--which would be... awkward... for my ability to rule on them.)

fair enough
but yes, I am thinking that I would not be a very good mod myself

Primarily though I just don't think I have the right temperament. I'd probably have a breakdown pretty fast.

that would not be good, and certainly not worth it
i am in two minds, I think I would not be a good mod, because when I get furious at someone/thing I can just ignore it
level head is essential
