Q: Is there a fast way to correct color differences in Photoshop CS6

SimonSI'm using Photoshop CS6 and I just photographed about 50 different high polish objects. Is there any way to correct the color and reflection in an easy way? the only way i know would be the copy-stamp and mend-tool (I hope they're called that in english, i just translated it from german) with t...

was really hoping someone else might step up and answer

1:23 AM
you ever have any mean tutors in uni @Ryan ? lol
struggling with an assignment for a poster....i have plenty of ideas but rather than focusing on the design problem, i'm trying to please this guy ¬_¬

Mmm, that can be a problem.
But on the flip side, it's something I face with my clients too.
You gotta make something you're okay with having your name attached to, but also it has to be something the client will pony up for.

true that...though i feel like this guy would give false criticism...likes to be sarcastic, put people down all the time

Ah, yeah. Instructors who think abuse is constructive are... well, they're good opportunities to practice one's patience and self-esteem.

haha one way of looking at it
it's a shame really cus it creates a really stifling environment. i dont believe designers should evaluate initial concepts/brainstorming until all options are laid out on the table, but it isnt the case here...very restrictive

1:46 AM
Yeah, it doesn't sound... ideal.
But it is the kind of attitude you'll probably run into throughout your career, so learning skills to deal with it is valuable.

i would complain more but i dont like discussing it online! :P
yeah true
but at least a client wants you to find a solution :/ it doesn't feel like that is the case here

I'm still figuring out those skills, and will always be improving them.
Aye, academic environments can be kinda skewed.
(Most of my clients are part of the local university, so I still have to navigate that arena.)

yeah humans are awful creatures :3

1 hour later…
3:15 AM
I'm reading campaign sign design advice for an upcoming poster (theatrical production about an election), and oooh boy is this a different world.
> There has never been a one color design that can not be improved by adding a second color.

where did you read that lol

politicallawnsigns.com

trying to think of metaphors for corruption and power here for a hamlet thing
im so close to getting something i could pop

Hmmm. I never really thought of Hamlet as a story of corrupted power.
Is your target demographic familiar with Hamlet?

playing off the line "something is rotten in the state of denmark"
yep...just trying to create some visual irony somehow
trying very hard to avoid skulls xD

3:26 AM
Well, there's always the "poison in the ear" thing.

that's a good idea

As for rotten... well, how about a Denmark-shaped apple with a bite out of it and a worm?

at the moment im playing with cast shadows to communicate a kind of surreptitious coveting for the throne
corruption of both power & the mind
yeah that's what i was thinking! but wasn't sure what shape to leave in the apple other than skull!

I'm also fond of the arras-stabbing, but that's... less recognisable, probably.

been thinking of doing something with treacle and beatles
weeds

3:29 AM
@johnp That'd play into Ophelia's final scene.

yeah there's a good description of the weeds and nettles she gathered
i had originally decided to do a cropped illustration of ophelia but im trying to make things super minimal now
some really nice ideas here pinterest.com/search/pins/…

Well, if you're going super-minimal....

not so much minimal than ironic/visually witty

A solid black background with HAMLET across the top in pink-grey sans serif, a gulf of empty black for the centre of the sheet, and at the bottom a handful of weeds and nettles thrown on the ground.

haha that would be good
feeds into my own nihilistic mindset too :3

3:33 AM
I do a Shakespeare poster about once every year, and the director always has some weird new gimmick to make the production stand out.
So I've got a lot of "traditional" Shakespeare poster concepts backed up.

yeah it's a nice challenge cus Shakespeare has been done so many times

It's actually easier to do something "new" when I've got a specific and gimmicky production to work with.
I'll use textures from the costumes, or frame the poster to match the stage layout, or what-have-you.
Restrictions and limitations push creativity in directions it wouldn't go on its own.

yeah it's fun. i love metonyms and synedoche
i think breaking imagery down to concepts like that can make things easier to brainstorm

I'm usually pretty good with the brainstorming, given a clearly defined subject or goal. It's the practical actions of building the concept back up into specific objects to work with that gets me bogged down; I tend to spend too much time in the intermediate steps.

same, the specifics and details of putting the concept together can be tricky. especially when trying to merge it with type

3:44 AM
How can I have this many fonts and ALL OF THEM ARE WRONG!?

this particular tutor likes shadows and type that's situated within the space of the photo so it restricts the outcome a little bit

...a noir motivational desktop?

hmm?

That's what it sounds like he wants.

lol he wants a slap

3:46 AM
[amused]

2 hours later…

6 hours later…
12:03 PM
@johnp interesting
but no 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 yet.

12:49 PM
Who the hell came up with the idea of retina screens

@joojaa Blaaargh. I'm just now looking at a new iMac and going "Eeeh I don't really NEED that, do I?"

@joojaa I hate them from the bottom of my heart, I really do

LOL
so i am not alone

We left 3D printer running overnight to finish this dog. It seems to have deviated from the program. #librarylife https://t.co/Esb2SbBiaj

@BESW was just going to say that thats is some nice 3d print unwinding itself
I have had this happen a few times now

Cai
1:00 PM
I love my Retina screens... why on earth would you hate them?

@Cai the entire concept that the image plane is separately dimension ed from the display is a very annying concept. I mean i have a comparably dense non retina screen and its just as good without such property attached to the environment.

@PieBie so do I

1:16 PM
Wohaa, there is a feature in illustrator that i was sure was not there and was on my list of complaints. strikes it out

?

happy happy joy joy... saved 20 clicks with mouse. Now if only i could force it to uodate in background :P <- Never happy
:)

2:05 PM
@BESW always happens when you leave a printer running overnight.

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ so your office is full with this kind of art? :D

2:28 PM
@Vincent ha, that happened once like 15 years ago and it destroyed the mimaki and it never worked right afterward, this is the mimaki
notice the price, lol

....ouch
ouch ouch ouch

it was more like, curse word followed by throwing across the room the material it destroyed followed by a long curse word then neighbors next door came over to see what the noise was as they were worried.
@Vincent see your on vacation, any fun plans set?

hope you were insured D:
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ well... fly to California in two days? :P

@Vincent no insurance doesn't cover that.
@Vincent awesomeness!! what brings you to cali? the coast?
great white sharks?

the cities, the nature and the relaxed atmosphere, I suppose :D

2:39 PM
nah that's cool

we'll slowly make our way southward from SF to San Diego

woo! you're going to have so much fun
I realized yesterday that when I go itll be january and I'll be freezing

@Ryan err?? I thought that area was always nice and cool?
@joojaa you ever play with SIPS?

San Francisco in January is average of 57. That, a higher altitude, and coming from Florida that's pretty cold for when I want to be hiking in the early morning

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ i think i used it once a few years back
how do you make your name all caps @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ?

2:45 PM
@Ryan lol, come back to Nashville. I will be happy to share my single digital weather with you.
@joojaa I was able to yield the force to do my bidding.

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ no thanks I was there last January. It was cold
That show is in San Antonio this year. I'll be going straight from Northern Cali to San Antonio for it which will make packing the proper clothing even more fun

@Ryan that;s the idea :D
@Darth well... LA is still sweltering now

I can't wait to start my travel season again

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ ah you did it like this Jᴏᴏᴊᴀᴀ

@joojaa lol
watch it, if you do that it will drive Ryan to go insane ;)

2:55 PM
Our sith lord is nigh unpingable now :P

@Vincent What do you mean? :P

Uɴɪᴄᴏᴅᴇ ɪs ᴡᴇɪʀᴅ ɪɴ ᴛʜɪs ᴡᴀʏ. Tᴏsɪ ᴏɴ!
Cool now i can talk the way death does in disc world novels! :)

i love Death!
i read the first two a couple of months ago

@johnp @Darth doesn't workanymore :P

bwahahahaaa

3:00 PM
im confused :( am i being slow again? I was talking about the prime numbers you mesged me earlier...

so @Vincent any idea about your must-sees within the cities?
Will you make it up to Wine Country (Napa) and the Sequoias? Alcatraz?

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ btw if it wasn't for autosuggest that would be a great idea :P

@johnp never seen Contact?
@Ryan Not Napa, but Sonoma

i havent...was that out recently?

Sequoias are one, too. We already booked tickets for an Alcatraz tour.

3:08 PM
@johnp i have all of them in my bookshelf

Monterey aquarium

the thing is humans are the real scary aliens :O ...should we ever land elsewhere

i love the way trolls turn superconductive in the pork futures warehouse

@johnp Somewhat. It might be older than you are :3
Contact is a 1997 American science fiction drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis. It is a film adaptation of Carl Sagan's 1985 novel of the same name; Sagan and his wife Ann Druyan wrote the story outline for the film. Jodie Foster portrays the film's protagonist, Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway, a SETI scientist who finds strong evidence of extraterrestrial life and is chosen to make first contact. The film also stars Matthew McConaughey, James Woods, Tom Skerritt, William Fichtner, John Hurt, Angela Bassett, Jake Busey, and David Morse. Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan began working on the film in 1979...

So what happened to the candy swap

3:09 PM
haha nah i was spawned in '91
but i think there was a similar movie out about a year ago
can we send whiskey @joojaa ? lol ireland isn't known for its candy really. maybe some chocolate

@johnp In many SF pieces, including Contact, intelligent species that have very limited ways of communication use the prime numbers in sequence to show that they are intelligent

@johnp probably not to Finland

strange lol

Primes are a very basic thing in math, no matter what your counting system

assuming they have a numerical system

3:14 PM
but some rather advanced insight in mathematics--and thus intelligence--is required to understand their relevance

whereas irrational numbers depends on your base for example

@Vincent nice remember to tell me how Monterey is. Since I'll only have a few days I'm debating between Monterey or San Francisco. Leaning towards just one day in San Francisco and then the rest towards Monterey

and they can be transmitted very easily: one pulse, silence, two pulses, silence, three pulses, silence, five pulses, silence, seven pulses...

so for example 0.1 is 0.0001100110011001100110011... 0011...

on top of that, such a sequence of pulses would not easily occur naturally
especially of it continues into the higher primes
@Ryan will do!

3:16 PM
from the point of view of nature it would make more sense

Entire Monterey Bay seems to be very nice. We have a few days in Santa Cruz and then some more in Monterey proper

Santa Cruz is close to where Ill be staying (Santa Clara/San Jose) so Ill definitely drive there. But then I'm thinking it might be cooler to drive down to Monterey and Big Sur
if I go into San Francisco I'd go by public transit thats for sure

If you go by train, Salinas is the place to go, it's the main Amtrak hub over there
it's right between SC and Monterey

I figure Im going to rent a car since I want to be able to go to some remote areas for photos and hiking

its @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ 's fault

if ya wan' me u can watch me on yo' videophoone

@joojaa what I do?

3:30 PM
@Vincent sfzc.org looks like a really interesting place to unwind

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ you reminded me of all the cool stuff in unicode
¡uʍop ǝpısdn ǝʇıɹʍ uɐɔ ı ʍou os. @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ

@Ryan that page won't load for me. What is it?

@Vincent not for me either now that you say so

it loaded really slow for me

does not respond to ping

3:37 PM

lol, probably you need to realx and be patient for their website :P

looks like 3 locations now Green Gulch, San Francisco, and Tassajara
Tassajara and Green Gulch look really relaxing. No electronics allowed

I'll keep it in mind ;)

now I'm looking at hot springs near Big Sur hehe

@Vincent @Ryan their primary server is down it gets rerouted if you wait for timeout

3:43 PM
ok I've seen, I know several answers from multiple account for www.everypixel.com...
but there was a guy I thought, too.

@joojaa zentangle?

@Vincent dunno?

@JohnB greetings

hiya

4:09 PM
woohoo! Reports are coming out saying Apple will update its computers before the end of the year

ok, I'm off. See ya people in a month or so :D

have fun!

thanks! :D

@Vincent be safe and have fun dude! Ill be watching for IG photos
you better have your Hexes premade :P

@Ryan I... won't post :/
exactly because I don't have the hexes premade :P

4:11 PM
tsk tsk tsk. Well have fun anyways

thanks, will do! :D I will seek out that San Diego rooftop you were talking about

@Ryan ya, I think you're referring to macOS

o/ o\ o/

@Vincent safe travels. make sure to IG that adventure

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ nope reports are starting to circulate that new iMac, Macbook, and some sort of 5k Display are coming -- 9to5mac.com/2016/08/29/…

4:14 PM
eww.. 5k display would mean the thunderbolt display might go on sale again. Might get another one.

since I didn't like the 2-in-1 windows I'm probably going to get a new Macbook depending on price but would at least like to hold off and see the specs and price before deciding between it and a Windows based system

4:54 PM
those places sounds so funny @Ryan lol

@johnp ? what places?

oh dear, i missed Vincent
just reading earlier mesgs...i was in town
always watching....watching and judging... ¬_¬ lol

5:29 PM
@johnp creepy, lol

hehe Have you seen this new perfume ad for Kenzo? youtube.com/watch?time_continue=228&v=ABz2m0olmPg
I wonder if it will set a precedent of crazier fragrance ads from now on

5:47 PM
Sony just announced a new lens... 50mm Macro. Not a very impressive looking lens

6:06 PM
would you guys need a curvature plotter for illustrator?
something like:

Not sure I'd ever have use for it personally, though it might be useful in designing geometric typefaces
by plotter i assume you're talking about those spline things?

That's some quality work on the full page specs

@johnp yes it shows if your curve has a good quality. Quite often you have some kinks in curves. Atleast you tend to do so you would be my target audience number one ;)

6:22 PM
haha i see
I'm not as bad as some people with my curves but I want to be the very best, that no one ever was...
...to catch them is my real test.........pokemon
ahem, yeah go for it! I'm surprised Illustrator doesn't already have this feature

well if I see Sony 90mm Macro lens for under the $800 mark I think I'm going to buy it. And while the GBP is weak compared to USD going to get a Formatt-Hitech Filter set

everyone says sterling has fallen, though google tells me it's much the same against the euro..

for me that shows up compared to USD

oh just checked....it has fallen. though Amazon doesn't seem to be adjusting ¬_¬

in 2005 when I went to Europe the Euro was around 2x the USD and the GBP was even worse

6:35 PM
yeah, a friend i know says the euro will fail eventually...pity

if Trump wins here in the States I imagine a short term fall of the USD. If Hillary wins I doubt much changes

i dont really follow financial news; i gave up when people started talking about fake money they printed and started buying debts as assets and weirdness

so as painful as it is to spend the money right now the filters don't exactly go bad so its a good time for me to bite the bullet sort to speak

^ "a friend I know"....coffee time for me. where you buying them from

Ill have to look around but probably straight from the source - formatt-hitech.com

6:44 PM
i bought the posca brush markers :( i knew i shouldn't have but i needed retail therapy
the white chalk pencils i got aren't very...white. they have a yellow tinge which is annoying

I just need to decide which set of Filters I want. I think the Master Filter Kit, most expensive one, is probably the way to go
because of their Firecrest line their older ones without the Firecrest Material are all on sale and cheap

i only had a quick look at that link but i saw that they sell a reverse graduated filter for twice the price of a regular one
can't you just flip the normal ones upside down?

its different but also i dont think its twice the price. Maybe you looked at Resin one and Firecrest for the other
that page explains the difference

possibly. i thought it was a little silly to have a separate one that's reversed

6:59 PM
Yeah it wouldn't be my main desire thats for sure

^i see the error of my ways now...

I really dont know how often I'd use filters here in Florida. Its more trying to save and gather stuff for the trips I want to take
I might only get one chance to go to Northern Cali for example. I'd like to go as prepared as possible to get some really great shots for my portfolio
but if I need money I can always turn around and sell the filters and macro lens off after the trips
thats why Im waiting on the lens until I see it just under the average ebay price Ive seen

@Ryan polarizer and neutral density filters might get handy in goo light conditions

i got an ND filter but i havent done a lot of outdoor shots in a long time

I have a really cheap Polarizer on my kit lens but I never shoot with my kit lens

7:10 PM
just read when not to use a polarizer...
coloured reflections like in sunsets...
it wouldnt really have ocurred to me, i only got my one to eliminate glare for artwork shots

main reason I'd want a new high end Polarizer would be for Northern Cali where it can be very very hazy

@Vincent hope I'm not too late to wish you a great Holiday!

7:27 PM
2 more days till i need to go to work.

nice animation lol, were you off for long @joojaa ?

243 days @johnp

Cai
7:46 PM
Can we just ban questions about things being "pixelated"...

oh wow lol

Should just answer all of them, "Stop pixel peeping creeper! Problem solved!"

Cai
^

alternatively tell em "your face is pixelated"
-"it's a waste of negative space"....best insult ive ever endured

Cai
lol

7:55 PM
So now that I finished my mini tutorial using a black and white I think I might do the same image in color cause color
er retouch that is
hah "I zoomed in really far and my pixels look like pixels!"
halp!
(we're a cruel bunch)

Cai
lol

8:16 PM
ooooh Adobe Headquarters is down the road from the place I'll be staying in Cali. I'm so going to geek out and try to get in there

there's nothing but money in there @Ryan :P
just imagine you there like Stranger Things lol

Found a post on their forums saying you really can't visit and there's no retail store at that location
I'll still see what I can do though lol if nothing else Ill selfie myself outside it haha

8:47 PM
photoshop an adobe staff id lol
use their powers against them >:)

@johnp should I make a question, "Is Cyan green or blue?"

is this one of those weird colour tricks you play on me? :P
i want to say blue but you'll probably say im wrong

Cyan is halfway between Blue and Green

there was some sort of blue included in my turquoise green marker set so i dunno
a-ha.

a friend of mine decided Cyan is a Shade of Blue, I argued it was a Tint of Green in response

8:55 PM
as in the deepest blue
when mixing pigments i would use a cyan for blue rather than a cerulean as it makes the value far too dark
maybe cerulean isn't the correct name...it's in one of the guache sets i have

2 hours later…
11:17 PM
only skim read this @BESW but thought you may find it interesting ello.co/ellowrites/post/utsomsr3swdfnvhf2hmpjw
the author was a pastor so there are possibly other overlooked reasons for his argument lol
i dunno if "priests" feature in any rpg games you play though ive noticed it a lot myself in videogames

[raises eyebrows] As a Holy/Disc priest who spent most of the Burning Crusade running other people through low-level raids so they could advance to higher raids that I never saw, I consider the frame a generalisation too sweeping to be very useful.
The thing about the support = boring paradigm is that it's an artificial truth established by a lack of imagination on the part of the game designers.

haha I see :) as for some of the videogame rpgs I've played, pretty much all the priestlike characters have that passivity that's mentioned...and i guess attitudes towards the church seem to prevail through the screen, in my experience at least

There is a societal tendency to equate service with passivism, but game design is a tool that can be used to challenge that assumption or reinforce it depending on the designer's choices (conscious or unconscious).

yeah i didnt consider that really, i guess i was thinking in terms of story roles
yeah totally^

I've seen arguments in, for example, D&D 3.5, that the cleric and druid (as the primary classes with healing powers) are extremely overpowered as a bribe to players to get someone to play the necessary healing role.

11:25 PM
a Holy/Disc priest sounds magnificent by the way :P

But in D&D 4e, dedicated healers aren't as necessary AND buff/support characters are awesomely fun to play.

i get ya

@johnp In the Burning Crusade, before they trashed the 5SR, going halfway down the Holy and Disc trees, and gearing up properly, yielded a build that could let a priest heal almost indefinitely. Only the very best paladin healers could match me for endurance in a fight that was taking too long, then then only on single targets.
This was VERY useful for someone whose chosen role was training new raiders.

again i keep bringing up final fantasy (though i love it :3 ) - but they often draw parallels in the story with corruption similar to the catholic church. and interestingly the religious characters in the FF series at least are usually portrayed as white mages

In most of the tabletop RPGs I play now, the "healer/tank/DPS" paradigm doesn't even exist.
..and combat is only one form of conflict resolution. Social powerhouses are equally empowered.

11:31 PM
do you think games these days (the digital ones) have a more aggressive inclination compared to tabletop rpgs... i get the impression that teambuilding and comradery is a lot more important with tabletop

Well, the juggernaut tabletop RPGs are still conflict-centric. But there's a strong move in the wider RPG community toward exploring other story paradigms.
So yeah, I think that guy's observations are confined to a very narrow context that the priesthood doesn't fit into well (role-locked physical combat), so naturally there's going to be a weird disconnect in both design choices and player response.

yeah true true

And, well, it's not like the mid-combat-rejuvenation role is locked down to clergy-style professions anyway, so I think conflating player reaction to the role with real-life conceptualisations of the profession is... incomplete, at best.

maybe he was a bit touchy, though I guess I was interested in my own experience as I wouldnt be that in favour of anything churchy tbh, so I agreed in a sense, though for different reasons

I've been playing Wizardry 8 lately (a 2001 computer RPG). In it the healing role can be filled by the priest, alchemist (potion-mixing master of the elements), or psionist (master of mental powers).

11:37 PM
yeah, one thing ive always liked doing is giving, say, a warrior mage-like abilities and creating a jack of all trades type character...though this always leads to downsides too lol

I guess I'm also coming at that essay from the point of view of someone who has spent his entire life in deeply religious societies.
For me the religious leader is not a passive observer on the sidelines, patronised and ignored.

ah I see. And yes I agree, though I feel strange giving an opinion on how I think a religious leader should be :P

When the archdiocese endorses or condemns something, things change. When the local priest refuses to marry a couple, the whole community responds. My faith doesn't have clergy but the role of spiritual mentors and the importance of religious administration is still central to our functioning as a community.
I've been thinking about tabletop RPGs that have philosophies of service and sacrifice as the primary mode of conflict resolution for the player characters, regardless of what kind of conflict modes NPCs are engaging in. It's difficult because, compared to physical conflict, the win conditions and fallout are much more complex and often take much longer to manifest.
