1:47 AM
...huh. Reading @Problematic's answer to the high fantasy mystery question again, I find myself actually wanting return to 3.5 for a tongue-in-cheek Kolchak expy.
Disallow spellcasting classes for PCs, implement a more robust social-skill subsystem, and have them run around doing legwork to solve magical murders.

... I'd play that.

@Problematic Maybe an e6 game?

2:03 AM
That would work really well.

I was thinking the setting would have to be tweaked a little, but with e6 it's basically pre-tweaked.

Should set it in Eberron, since investigation's half the setting anyway.

I'm only ships-passing-in-the-dark familiar with Eberron, and even then mostly just the 4e version.

Now I'm gonna have to roll up a Warforged rogue-sleuth.

I think for this concept, 3.5 is better than 4e?

2:11 AM
I'm biased by my limited-to-3.5 experience
Either that or Pathfinder.
6th level characters get... 3rd level spells?

Yeah.
But that's largely irrelephant for this concept.
As we'd ban spellcasting for PCs, and e6 monsters are allowed to be higher than level 6.... just to spite the party.
So higher-level spells would be rare, but not unheard-of.
So, say the party are the local investigators for a three-horse town and somebody in the town turns into a wereboar.

Well, I'm just wondering if banning spellcasting is necessary in an e6 setting. I'm looking through the spell lists.

I must admit, e6 isn't something I've actually played either.

Then again, I'm still thinking Eberron, and that's heavy on low-level magic, so...

2:43 AM
Thanks for reminding me about e6; it's really tempting me to pull out my Pathfinder sourcebooks again.

Heh.
It'd be important to remember that any d20 game run on this conceit is designed to be frustrating.

Hrm.

3:31 AM
I hate it when I do some research and come up with an answer I really disagree with.

?

The question about interrupting an area effect attack: I found out that you're supposed to apply damage (and make the damage roll) after the first target is hit, not after you make all the damage rolls.
err, all the attack rolls*

Huh.

0
A: Declaring an interrupt during a multitarget attack

SoulriftThe power will deal damage to anyone hit before you are hit! I think it is helpful to clarify order-of-execution in scenarios like this. Declare target(s) Make Attack Roll(s) Make Damage Roll My original thought was that you do all the declaring, then roll all the attacks, then, after all hi...

The problem is that the rules compendium specifically lays out an order of execution (declare power, targets, roll attack, check for hit, apply damage/effects) and then says repeat for each target of a multi-target attack, so you have to run the last 3 steps, in sequence, for each extra target.

That... makes sense, but should really be made more clear.

3:37 AM
I agree it's very ambiguous, I scoured the original PHB and later RC for hints but... /shrug
And I hate my answer because I much prefer rolling all attacks before moving on to damage and effects.
But it does have very significant effects on interrupts: whether you can wait and see all the attacks before negating the whole attack, or if you can do nothing to save anyone hit before your attack roll.

Very interesting.

How would you rule for your games, if you were DM and this came up?

@Soulrift Generally, I stuck to 4e rules as best I knew them.
They're nit-picky and persnickety and often poorly indexed, but they try to be precise for a reason.
So I tried to keep up to date on the errata and so forth, and not fix what wasn't demonstrably broken.

@BESW Ygorl has fun mechanics. wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mobile/…
His aura and the power associated with it, and his Inescapable Endings, especially.

Q: What's SOP for questions that have been asked in other venues?

ProblematicWhile lurking in other online communities, I've occasionally come across questions that would be a great fit for RPG.SE, but haven't been asked here yet. Should these sorts of questions be "ported over" to RPG.SE, should we assume that users will search elsewhere and find their answer, or is ther...

@JonathanHobbs Thanks for tackling some of those questions from this afternoon.

A: Attack of Opportunity & spell casting

ZachielIt's a little better and a little worse than you doubt. First of all, if you cast a spell without casting defensively, you get one attack of opportunity from each single enemy that has you in its threat range, unless they've already done an AoO in that round. This means several different things...

My answer mostly stems from 3.x knowledge and from seeing how some details didn't change (since they showed up in the other answer and comments).
I'd like some PF expert to double-check my answer for mistakes.

@Zachiel I don't know anything about that issue, but I'd like to say that I was very impressed with your answer to the "how to deal with issues that aren't covered by rules?" question before it was closed.

I'm blushing now
but I believe I was wrong on it.
"if there's rules about what to do when rules don't cover it, follow those" is an oxymoron.

Nah, its more of a meta-rule

@Phil Exactly.

I'm not used to this distinction. Anyone I should tag for my precvious question, instead?

10:32 AM
It's quite common for a system to give a general rule to be used when a specific rule is missing.
@Zachiel Hm? Oh, you mean is there anyone familiar with PF mechanics?

Apart from misspellings and convolution: Yes.

I don't really know anyone who frequents the chat who claims to be an expert in PF.

Most of us just go look at the srd wikis....

haha ok

10:36 AM
KRyan is second-highest All Time, and he says that's what he does.
Tags are misleading here because so many times PF and 3.5 get tagged together.

I shall look for people favving the tag

Ah, good call.
...I am getting spoiled by the Fate channel; most everyone there has the typing indicator script.

MMmmh I see there are 149 followers but who knows who they are?
@BESW ???
meaning: which channel? what's a typing indicator? Why are you spoiled?

The FATE Game room; a script @Problematic made that puts a green outline around users' icons when they're typing in the channel; because I really like knowing when someone's typing.
He designed the script to make our play-by-chat games flow more smoothly, but it works in any chat. The catch is that it only works for other people who also have the script installed.
We also have a script that turns d6s into dFs in that room alone. It's pretty shiny.

mmmmh test for my new avatar
nope
F5
not working

10:44 AM
Using gravatar?

just changed to a new one
in the profile section

Sometimes gravatar takes a little while to update. Not sure about the site-hosting option.

The only thing I hate about the avatar I put in is that it's a fan art of a PG of mine, but she's not pale enough.
And well the artist isn't that good at draqing different facial features but hey. It's my PG!

@BESW No worries :)

Apply some judicious GIMP?

10:46 AM
However the image is site hosted now

(I didn't expect a thank you though, haha. That was pleasant to come across.)

BESW is pretty good at making people feel good today.

you mean he isn't normally? ;op

Sometimes I am cranky, and need infusions of pony.

Ponies. A pony kept exploding yesterday, I'm all scorched (@Lord_Gareth knows who)
afk for lunch

11:01 AM
@BenHardy Ahoy!

ohai

What is, in the vernacular of our bygone kindred, "up"?

Well, I am the most poor again.

ALL the poor?

11:03 AM
@Zachiel All three avatars in that screenshot are yours. Looks like there's some funny business going on whilst it propagates or something.

@JonathanHobbs [bemused]

not just yet, but I will be. Military police pulled me over for 5mph over the limit. But the vehicle I happened to be driving at the time wasn't up-to-date with registration, so I had to tow a perfectly good vehicle off base to home.
Not sure what federal speeding charges are, but I doubt it's anything like guam's 4/hour over.

Hoorf.

@BESW What do you think of Ygorl? And of my thinking I'd like to sick a level... 13-ish version of him with identical but numerically toned down powers on my players further into the campaign?

Yeah, I discovered I was about three months late on registration (luckily my mother noticed, not an officer) and fixed that last week.

11:05 AM
otherwise, I'm rather peachy.

(My campaign which is developed pretty well to be geared toward the elemental chaos unless my players take the chaos of the elemental chaos to my plans)

@BenHardy Are you peachy-keen?

Peachy-keen for ? XD

It's one of Lars' traditional catch-phrases.
Appropos of nothing, the dire koala begs to be statted.
2
(I throw that in especially for you, @JonathanHobbs, because dire eucalpytus).

heheh

11:08 AM
@JonathanHobbs I'm going to need a screen-shot or something.

@BenHardy aw man that doesn't sound good
I hope you don't go through too much trouble for that

well, I waited 2.5 hours from time of pull-over to eventual arrival at home. XD

That alone contains more than a modicum of fail.

all for an exact 5mph speed limit charge. (I doubt)

@BESW That has to be one of the greatest things I've read recently
@BESW Have the or something version

11:14 AM
Oh, my.
Okay, Inescapable Endings? Is not something you put on PCs.
That's for one of Yori's allies.

@BESW Oh my god.

...I love making your brain go "ssssPOOOM."

I was thinking I'd put it on the tank, have other slaad surround him, then turn to my players and do a little sideways head-wag and say "what now bitches?"
(not literally)
but that is even better

Ygori needs a bunch of Standard allies, and one or two Elite healers.
Don't make the healers obvious; have them blend in with the Standards.
Alternately, just make them all Standards with a 1/encounter self-heal.
The goal is to make ALL the choices Bad Choices: attack the standards? They start healing, which heals Ygori. Ignore them? he gets extra actions.

@BESW 1/encounter: head explodes horribly and nearby allies are healed
That reminds me of something wonderful about Orks from Warhammer.

11:19 AM
oooooooh.
Okay: AoE heal on death.

@JonathanHobbs wtf... the G thing is an avatar too? That happened previously to my fiddling with avatars

Now Ygori can burninate his own troops for heals.

@Zachiel It's the default Gravatar avatar.

(And the party suddenly doesn't want them to die near their friends, so their strategy is divide-and-conquer, which Well of Entropy makes nearly impossible.)

@BESW Oh man. Put Inescapable Endings on an ally beside him. Smack another ally beside him on the head. It dies. It heals him. It heals the other guy. That heals him too.

11:21 AM
@Soulrift Hi!
@JonathanHobbs Exactly.

(Wait, but it explodes too, so hm... healing range is greater than the explosive range, or the chaotic explosion doesn't hurt --- oh my god, the chaotic explosion is what heals them)

....wait.

@BESW Hello!

Okay, the main problem with this is that it extends the fight a bit more than you probably want.
Also, it can be hard for Ygori to kill his guys when he wants them to die, because of having so much hp.
Solution: make 'em minions, and replace all the "healing" in this concept with "temporary hit points."
(Except Ygori's Inescapable healing; keep that regular.)
Watch the party wade in with AoEs to take out the minions, and suddenly they've spread temp hp everywhere.
Ygori can one-shot minions, and have it be that he gets healing equal to temp hp granted to the target?

@BESW Warhammer has a parallel plane of psychic energy in which (almost) all living things have a presence. It also has psykers, which tap into this extremely dangerous parallel plane in order to perform magic in this one. Being a psyker is risky business.

11:25 AM
I dunno, it's getting more complicated than it was in my head, but you get the idea.
@Soulrift What's new?

temp or real HP is the same really, he has to damage them for that much to have them die

@BESW Nothing yet, I just woke up.

The situation is different for Orks. They have a shared psychic field named the Waaagh!! which bends reality according to Ork belief. Ork equipment - spacecraft, guns, etc - is faulty beyond belief and should by no rights ever even work, except they believe it works, so it does. Orks paint their ships red because it believes red makes them go faster. Therefore, red makes them go faster.
Ork Psykers don't tap into the parallel psychic plane. They tap into the Waaagh!! and use that to manipulate reality and cast magic.
And, in doing so, the awesome power of the Waaagh!! completely overwhelms the Ork psyker and their head explodes.
(that's all.)
(I believe they have a chance to resist the head-explodey business but Ork psykers do not have a long life expectancy)

@BESW This is amazing.
@BESW yes
And then the minion explodes and heals other, nearby, minions.

11:31 AM
I have a suggestion which will be unpopular.
Chaos, right? Slaadi are kinda all about "screw logic/reason/physics."
So screw the rules. Slaadi-granted temp hp stacks on Slaadi.
@Ethan Hi.

@BESW Oh hey I wasn't even aware temp HP didn't stack. Yes, I'll do it like that. And, to make matters simple: Ygorl's attacks against fellow Slaadi always hit true HP and bypass temp HP.
Meaning 1HKs always vs his allied minions.

Naturally.

@BESW hi, I am on summer break

@Ethan Cool.

lol been on
so, hows your life

11:36 AM
@JonathanHobbs Perhaps flavor their temp hp has chaos fields in which things just don't happen right for non-slaadi?
@Ethan Having a pretty bad week, stress-wise, but I'm getting through it with prioritization, prayers, and planning.

why, whats going on, what was it you did for a living again, or did you go to school?

@BESW ... this made a large smile appear on my face. Because this: most unique Slaads will have something that involves breaking at least one game rule somehow.
I don't know if that should be boss fights alone, or Slaad that stand out or are used rarely, or each Slaad unit should have its particular rule-break.

I'm a graphic designer. Got a pretty major job I'm behind on, and I've also got a lot to do to prepare for taking care of my dad by myself for the next month and a half while my mom's away to help her sister care for their mother.
@JonathanHobbs I'd say that every Slaad encounter should feel like logic/physics is being bent if not snapped in half.
I remind you of my Illithid Gimmick.

@BESW Okay. Yes, that is a much better rule of thumb to go by. XD
The Illithid Gimmick makes that seem more okay. And these guys are supposed to be this bad.

Often there'll be a small rules exception you can use.

11:43 AM
@BESW did you mean flavour their temp hp as chaos fields?

@JonathanHobbs ...Yes.
Look to monk powers for Weird Stuff inspiration.

I am imagining: looking at a Slaad with high temp HP is not straightforward. The looking at him is the not straightforward part. It will feel like staring at a jittery optical illusion where he looks like he's in a few different positions at once and all of them are true. Like a real-and-not-theoretical completely uncollapsed probability field.
@BESW Okay! XD

@JonathanHobbs Sure, sometimes.
But be sure that the chaos fields don't all always look the same. That'd be... nonchaotic.
Sometimes the slaad looks totally normal, but all the non-chaotic stuff around him turns into a Dali painting.
That loss of temp hp instead of normal hp represents the spear you threw at him turning into a kitten.
You get the idea.

Hahaha, yes I do.

Maybe the spear just sort of... floats up in the sky.
Feel free to flavor their attacks the same way.
Ygori's scythe attack might be more appropriate as a "stuck in a pile of Fish Out of Nowhere" attack.
Or "Either your legs or the ground under them stopped working normally. You're not sure which."
@Zachiel I can see your new avatar now.

12:04 PM
@BESW This is making me laugh, I like it
(I see it too, @Zachiel)
I'm going to have to play around a bit with this :)

Why have the Elemental Chaos in your campaign if you're not going to be chaotic about it?
At the very least, physics should go nuts.
Colors, tastes, weights, measures, distances, sounds, textures, all should fritz out.

I'm going to have to actually have chaotic zones I think.
Just being in them will make things happen.

I believe some mechanics for those are already available as terrain.

"You feel shorter suddenly. The hair on the back of your neck sticks up. Your sword is a fish."

Some of them are boring, but some are quite inspired--and some other effects can be reskinned.
The Zone of Gender Changing!

12:07 PM
"You impale the slaad on your fish. It turns into sword and flails about in your grip like a sword out of water."

The first time my players had a proper Slaad encounter, they didn't know what Slaadi were.

oh my god

Five obvious caster-types in the front of the room and a great hulking toadbeast in the back. Naturally, the party assumed that the toadbest was going to charge the door, keeping everyone bottled in the hallway while the casters pew-pewed from behind him.
They consulted and agreed that the casters could probably teleport, but the toadbeast would be easy to pin against the back wall. The tank would do that while the DPS cleaned up the casters.
So the tank wins initiative and runs in screaming, pushing the toadbeast into a corner and ready to keep him from moving past.

what group was this?

Yours.

12:11 PM
ah
mk
it sounded familiar, but I kinda knew what Sladdi were

Suddenly, the party learns that toadbeasts can teleport, because he's in the hallway ripping up the squishies while the casters are keeping the tank from getting back out of the room to help.

Oh my god XD

Lesson learned: the big muscley guys aren't always limited to walking where they want to go.

yeah

I don't remember this one.

12:13 PM
@BenHardy I believe it was the fight just before they found Karya.
It wasn't a rule-break at all, but it was a mindbending break in convention that left several of the players dazed and confused.

you might not have been there for it?
I think we had a couple of people who didn't show up again after a few sessions

So yeah, there are a lot of things you can do short of actually breaking the rules to make a fight defy "the way things should be."

@BESW ... I will try to think along those lines too. :)

Flavor is great, but for a tactics engine like 4e you can do a lot to influence your players' responses by how you use or abuse the mechanics.

Like... a fight which progresses onto the walls of the room

12:28 PM
Ooh, I did that a couple times.
Drove my players crazy.

I will then do this
"You feel a tug. Your feet are slipping. Roll to not fall!"
"... I got a 3"
"You fall."
"Shit don't hit the --"
"onto the ceiling"

I did it two ways in my campaign, that I recall.
First, a room that rolled, with the boss hovering in the center.
Every round I rolled for a random new side it would wind up on, and everyone got slid into a pile on the nearest edge of that side.
Second, a room with... capricious... gravity: if you move more than X squares in a single action, you fall to a randomly-rolled side (sometimes you just floated up a bit and then came down on the same side).

@BESW did you... roll a six-sided dice to find out which wall was down?
(the one on the bottom of the dice has to be down, naturally)

Naturally.

Circles are squares, and squares are squares.

12:36 PM
Yes, technically the room was actually a sphere in-game.
....

the spherecube was constantly in flux.

@BESW naturally. Why wouldn't a sphere be modeled as a cube :)

@waxeagle 4e mapping is Lovecraftian.

@BESW yes. definitely

I blew one player's mind when I drew a cross on the map and declared it to be a square.

12:40 PM
those are cool, reminds me of snakes moving through the ground XD

chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/3564982#3564982 the most amusing section of transcript I've seen in a while, if only because I'm picturing a bunch of people sitting around a table in silence, eating shawarma and rolling dice.

Why shwarma?

End credits of Avengers

(In Haifa, every suarma shop spelled it differently. I was amused.)

@BESW end of the Avengers maybe? but shwarma is awesome so maybe just because?

12:47 PM
Fair enough.

pyro and knotheather are having a baby!

I'm a falafel guy myself.

(at least that's what G+ tells me)
@BESW nom falafel

Cool.
Spicy falafel with hummus!

@BESW nom hummus :)
@Problematic there's a skype call behind that IIRC

12:50 PM
@waxeagle Yeah, I figured, but the mental image was amusing :)

@Problematic I can definitely appreciate that :)

[blink] any Girl Genius readers here?

Yo.

So I'm not... really sure what just happened with the latest page.

Neither am I?

12:58 PM
Glad it's not just me then.

1:14 PM
Oh wow, Kinda has a really cool premise... I think.
Even if the name could use an extra "n" to make it less confusing.
It's a "Garden of Eden cycle" concept.
The Kinda, a race on a distant planet, developed ambition--which led to society, technology, and a civilization which grew until all their ambitions were answered, all their needs met.
They retired to their Garden of Eden, which stymied societal advance and their technology and civilization collapsed... until they developed ambition again.

...

In this iteration at least, their "garden of eden" solution seem to be that they terraformed and genetically modified their entire planet so that the weather was fair and predictable, the trees bore fruit all year round, and their needs were generally all met automatically.

@BESW Welcome to Miranda
(not quite, but similar enough)

@waxeagle In what sense? Miranda was about making people docile in spite of their situation, not people creating a situation that removed all need for agitation.
It was literally a garden paradise where all their needs were met automatically by a self-sustaining system.

@BESW true
intrigued by the concept. What kinds of things motivate towards ambition? external conflicts?
ie does internal strife arise?

1:25 PM
I shall have to finish watching the story.

is it an anime?

There seems to be some kind of malignant "snake in the Garden" trapped in the Kinda's telepathic network.

cuz searching for "kinda" is rather um...unproductive

No, Fifth Doctor episode of Doctor Who.

@BESW Oooh
@BESW nod naturally :)

1:26 PM
@BESW right when I logged out for a while

@waxeagle Its avatars in the network even have snake tattoos.
(One of them looks rather like Eccleston, which I find amusing.)

@BESW lol
@BESW have they ever explained how the Doctor's appearance in his new form is determined?

@waxeagle Ummmm.

or is that beyond the realm of their narrative?

"Explaining" things in Doctor Who isn't something that's done often, or is helpful when they do it.

1:29 PM
@BESW gotcha

The best we can do is make educated guesses based on what's said (and whether or not we think the people saying it are lying or misguided). The novelizations have gone into more detail, but they're only semi-canonical.

@BESW gotcha.

I do have a personal theory which is mostly supported by canon, and in line with many fan speculations.

@BESW curious

<---- Now on this channel, meet Leilani Ghostbones, my favourite character. Unoptimized Scout 15 Wizard 1 under D&D 3.5 rules. (:D)

1:32 PM
@waxeagle How much do you want me to go into what's canon, what's semi-canon, and what's rampant speculation?
As opposed to just presenting my theory.

@BESW just present the theory :)

@Zachiel [waves]

Beware, she hugs

@waxeagle Okay.

@Zachiel I'm pretty sure i've seen her flashing way too much cleavage in ads for FB games

1:35 PM
I wanted to have my eponimous barbarian as an avatar, but I coldn't find his avatar anywhere. And now let's hear the theory [sits]

Regeneration is a biotechnology, not a natural process. It is granted to Gallifreyans when they become Time Lords (which involves hereditary rights as well as tests, among other requirements; Time Lords are the technological elite of Gallifreyan society).
Regeneration is limited to 12 times per Time Lord not because it is impossible beyond that, but a) because the "photocopy effect" gets worse each time and beyond 12 it's less reliably stable and b) Rassilon was a jerk, but he recognized that true immortality isn't good for anybody.
Now, closing in on your question specifically: regeneration can happen under three known conditions.
First, the High Council can force it.
Second, the Time Lord can voluntarily trigger it.
Third, it occurs automatically when a Time Lord is lethally wounded (though sudden death can interfere with or prevent this).
Regeneration is a process by which all the cells in the Time Lord's body are rejuvenated at once. It is somewhat like becoming younger, but the process also scrambles the Time Lord's DNA so that he changes appearance and his personality traits are reshuffled (not changed, just re-prioritized).
When the process is triggered on purpose, by the Time Lord or the High Council, the result of the regeneration is controllable.
Indeed, we've seen one Time Lord who seemed to be able to "try out" different bodies during the process before she settled on one she liked--although that could have been time-projections similar to the Valeyard.
But when the process is forced by mortal injury, it is uncontrolled and unpredictable. At best, the Time Lords' unconscious thoughts and desires at that moment may influence the re-prioritization of his personality.
So: generally, it seems that the Doctor doesn't have control over his appearance (except maybe subconsciously), because he only ever regenerates under stress.
If he ever chose to regenerate, he'd be able to choose his new image.
(The Second Doctor was forcibly regenerated into the Third by the High Council, and he was given a choice of new bodies; he rejected them all, so they chose for him.)

@BESW interesting. That certainly makes sense

@waxeagle I don't think she's in FB games. The artist is not into professional graphics. However she is perfectly capable of flashing cleavage. Especially because she's 4 feet 6(9⁄64) inches so top views are easily possible.

@Zachiel Lol. I'm mostly kidding :P

@waxeagle Romana is the Time Lord who we saw "trying on" bodies.

1:45 PM
I fell for it. By choice.

@BESW /me lacks doctor history to know who that is yet.

@waxeagle The Doctor's only non-relative Time Lord companion.

I'm planning on going back and watching the available episodes once we get back to finishing the new stuff (now that GoT is over for the year we will probably do that soon)
@BESW gotcha

(His first companion was his granddaughter, and then Five got Romana, who was played by two actresses.)
The High Council offered to give the Doctor's remaining regenerations to the Master in exchange for his services once, and the Master tried to steal the Doctor's regenerations twice.

@BESW gotcha

1:48 PM
...As did the Valeyard, who is a "time projection" from between the Doctor's 12th and 13th regenerations. Because he failed to get the Sixth Doctor's regenerations, he ceased to exist.
(The Master also once tried to 'recharge' his regenerations through direct physical contact with the black hole that powered all of Gallifreyan technology. It didn't work, but not because it was a stupid idea-- and neither did it end as badly as it probably should have.)
(After the first actor who played the Master died, the Master spent a lot of his time as a near-zombie at the end of his last regeneration, obsessed with regaining regenerations or becoming immortal.)

@BESW Did he regain them?

In New Who we're told that newly regenerated Time Lords have powers of regrowth (like if their hand gets chopped off) to the point of being nearly invulnerable (taking dozens of rounds of ammunition without even bleeding). The first I could almost credit as being compatible with the Classic Who presentation (this is one case where The Movie actually helps), but the latter.... yeeeeeeah. River Song ruins everything she touches.
(She also defies the "biotech, not biology" thing.)
@JonathanHobbs No, but he eventually managed to possess the body of a near-human.

@BESW I think you may be confusing River Song with Moffatt, who used River Song in his process of ruining things

The near-human body didn't have any regenerations, but the Master eventually found a planet that would sustain him, although it turned him into a catman in the process.
@JonathanHobbs I think they're in cahoots. She encourages him.
The next time we saw the Master, he was executed and his ashes turned into an ectoplasm snake that possessed a human played by Eric Roberts. In that body, he made his second attempt to steal the Doctor's regenerations (more evidence that regeneration is biotech, not biology, if it can be applied to a human body).
When that plot failed, he either died or was sucked into an alternate negative-energy dimension or was trapped in the Time Lord computer database.

Weird as heck

Later on and entirely off-screen the Time Lords revived him, gave him at least two regenerations, and had him fight in the Last Great Time War. From which he fled, regenerated, and made himself seem human (and think he was human).
That's how he appears when he first shows up in New Who.

@BESW Oh, okay. It was sounding increasingly like there wasn't actually a reason why he could have shown up in the New Who.

@JonathanHobbs Yeah, that whole "later on and entirely off-screen" bit was totally invented in the New Who episode he first appears in.
@JonathanHobbs Classic Who was.... trippy.
And quite frequently, it would merrily fart on logic and then accuse logic of having farted.

@BESW Hahahaha. But... at least it was still about the aliens and not the doctor

Hm?

Someone observed recently the recent episodes have become 90% about exploring the doctor and how women are strange and hard to understand

Well, the season arcs at least.
Here, enjoy the Kandy Man.
Highlights include grabbing the Doctor's crotch and "Impolite guests get to feel the BACK OF MY CANDY HAND!"
...and on a meta level, it was a parody that got shut down for copyright infringement.

Wow. XD
Watching.

Sorry for the music.

That's fine. :)
