Any spell suggestions for a 1st level arcane swordsage? I get 6 "maneuvers" which could well be any spell, and 1 "stance" which would probably be best as a buff spell (personal better). 0th and 1st level spells are accessible and since it doesn't really say it seems like I have my pic of any spell period. Says "arcane" but most spells don't differentiate between arcane or divine, and many spells say on the cleric list are also on an arcane caster's list...

@doppelgreener Pick (from a list of about 10) the adverbs you want to describe your action, like Clever, Impressively, Helpfully, and Thoroughly. Roll a die (size determined by the kind of thing you're doing and how good your PC is at it. The higher the die roll, the more adverbs the GM uses to describe your action.

There are way too many lv0/1 spells that I can get as an Arcane Swordsage... I can't narrow my choices down. Worst yet is I need to figure out what to pick as a stance that isn't incredibly freaking broken.

Since I'm not restricted by a spell list.. any arcane spell counts :/

I wanna go thematic, but some of the better spells thematically are sooo broken...

True Strike for example... thematically would make sense with a martial artist... even as a stance.

But that's as broken as a ring of constant true strike

And I essentially get it for free...

Hmm... Kaupear's Quickblast - A small sphere of chosen energy that does 1 dmg per caster level (max 5). Free action to cast. Counts as your one quickened spell per round though.

Interesting though, can add it to well anything you do.

I can get 4 spells that will allow for a total +5 Armor (hr/lvl) and +2 deflection (min/lvl) and a +1 deflection (1 rnd immediate spell). Add that to Wis to AC, and a bloody Monk's Belt... I can go full Hammertime on this if I wanted to... Not going to though, I'm not building a tank lol

Oh, this is lv1, so I won't have a monk's belt yet.

But 3 of those spells increase as I level too.

My background is as a D&D player, with a couple brief sojourns into a Rolemaster campaign. Not much past 3.5, with limited experience there, but a lot at the AD&D (2.x) level.

Been invited to play in a Pathfinder campaign, 95% water world, need to create an 8th level character. Suggestions?

Usually I play a ranger/scout type as my archetype, occasionally a monk/druid.

And I'm still waiting on word on how to assign/roll magic items, or if I just buy what I want with the typical 33,000 starting gold for an 8th level.

Google Pathfinder SORD, it'll help ya get the gist of the game's rules and make a good quick reference guide in general. There's my best bit of advice I think. Also, typically gm's will tell ya to just buy what you want but I'm not your GM so I can't say.

I'd also look around for flight methods, they will prove helpful for you.

Any of the prestige classes worth looking into?

Here's his directive: Feel free to create a character, stats are 5d6 drop 2, Level 8, standard starting gold for that level, 2 traits, anything from Paizo or Dreamscarred press is fine with me, anything outside just needs approval. Hitpoints, i'll trust you to be honest with your rolls.

With Dreamscarred Press allowed, I recommend looking into the Bloodforge book if you can.

IDK about prestige classes, I haven't looked at them at all, perhaps @Aaron can help you more there.

Since I like the Dragon Age video game series, the Grey Warden/Grey Gardener look interesting, just not sure how to translate it to water. This will be my first primarily water based campaign, actually.

Stay the Hand is a spell that allows me to cause someone not to want to attack me, and can be used even after they decide to attack me, on their turn, and can even cause them to lose their spell if it targeted me...

It's not a feat, it's a prestige class. May have to build it from scratch. It's from the Races of the Wild supp.

Seems a decent option.

I'd have to go look it up, but currently the char sheet has point blank shot, rapid shot, far shot and able sniper, and the able sniper is part of the sniper PC from RotW.

Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus on ranged attack rolls with a weapon made against flat-footed targets that are at least 30 feet away. In addition, you gain a +4 bonus on Hide checks made to hide again after you have made an attack roll while hiding.

Strike - Heatstroke - 2d6 nonlethal plus fatigue (fort save negates fatigue) that can't be healed normally, sr
Strike - Lesser Shivering Touch - 1d6 dex damage, no save, sr
Boost - Blade of Blood - +1d6 weapon dmg or take 5 damage to boost to +3d6 weapon dmg
Boost - True Strike - +20 to next attack

Technically I could have gone much worse... Like True Strike as a stance :P Or Swift Invisibility...

Arcane Swordsage doesn't appear to be limited to any spell list so long as it's an arcane spell.

As for whether it's a strike or boost, it doesn't matter that much. Usually boosts have a duration that isn't instant though.

I'm trying to balance picking useful spells and not making it completely broken.

(for reference, I've often made characters that have 60' base land speed to start without the help of spells)

This is also a game that will reportedly be mostly RP focused. Supposedly a 1:3 ratio of combat to RP

Did want to get some fun spells for RP, like stupid spells that are more pranks than anything, or perhaps spells to enhance socialization, but to be honest with such a limited selection of spells every one will count.

So...imbue arrow, can cast an area spell where the arrow lands. Where is a good list of area spells, or is it just any spell that has "area" listed? Such as obscuring mist?

Or more like the grease spell, affects area where arrow lands?

Either, I think.

Obscuring mist is a great spell for imbue arrow, if I recall correctly.

Haven’t played with it in a few years, but we had an arcane archer in one of my campaigns.

You basically use any area spell and then use the arrow as the point of origin.

It ends up replacing the range of the area spell with the range of your arrows.

Very handy for short- and zero-range area spells.

I once ran a gag game where one of the characters had a psychological hangup which meant all his spells had to be channelled through arrows.

That's how I was reading it, thanks. Although somewhat moot, I actually can't take arcane archer until next level, unless I go sorcerer for only 2 levels and forego the extra abilities draconian heritage gives you at lvl 3.
