@Hennes I've known the term "Ethernet" since I was like 6. I'm 15 now. We're not dumb.

Bob
@Rahul2001 [citation needed]
:P

@Bob oh ok
In Kenya they just held it for 6 weeks while denying they had it
So we purchased another card
then the original turned up at the premises (in Kenya) with our guy going 'wtf that was the fastest shipping ever!). - we hadn't yet sent the replacement card...
hmmm how can I identify where a file is coming from, on a network drive
these .tmp files are being created by something, and never cleaned up
user is complaining, but I have no clue what's creating them :/

@Hennes there was a survey in the UK recently which said most people couldn't live without "wifi". having wifi is pointless if there is no connection to the wider internet

10:19 AM
@Rahul2001 I posted a link to a SF question earlier where someone asked what a pager was

@Burgi people don't realise this tho, it's funny
goes to some remote place' ooooo we have wifi'

@Nick Why ask me? I know nothing about Lenovos ...

strings shows 'word/webSettings.xmlPK' kits
I'm guessing MS word.

10:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek I have my dad's old pager...

@Rahul2001 you can stay on the lawn then. Though try not to fall off.

XD

(the closest thing I have to a lawn is a patch of grass on my balcony)

@DavidPostill I think some people see you as an all around tech genius... And that's not a bad thing xD

1 hour later…
11:48 AM
hey guys
I hope you're well
I have question for microsoft lovers ...

In most Windows, there is the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns
I found out that in the mexican version of windows, the AddIns folder is called Complementos.

Bob
Welcome to the wacky world of localisation.

actually, we were talking about that elsewhere

Bob
Enjoy your stay. Our tour guide, @OliverSalzburg, will show you around.

11:52 AM
Is this behavior only located to Latin countries? If no, is there a guide where I can do a decent conversion

[citation needed] but apparently MS would hire random companies to do localisations, and stuck to them

Are you talking about my question, @Bob or someone else?

Bob
Pretty sure @OliverSalzburg posted a link to an (incomplete) MS localisation table somewhere.

you were talking to me @Bob, just got that
@OliverSalzburg ...?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Each one has a different level of completeness

11:57 AM
@Nikita hi

Bob
AHA FOUND IT
Feb 21 '13 at 14:52, by Oliver Salzburg
Holy cow. This is brilliant: http://www.microsoft.com/Language/en-US/Search.aspx?sString=NOTIFICATION%20AREA&langID=de-de
though I don't think that localisation db covers folder names

@Burgi Still, not pointless, but most people wouldn't know wtf to do with themselves.

@Bob Oh yeah, that is some sexy quoting!

12:15 PM
@OliverSalzburg o_O am i missing something here?

lol
Clearly ;)

12:33 PM
@djsmiley2k Maybe. I dunno
The statement was pretty clear and on-point IMHO

12:49 PM
'The next Insider build should have a fix. But for people doing serious work with Linux command-line apps, not having Ctrl-C is a little like driving a car when only the front brakes work.'
wut
front brakes?
why would you control the brakes on your car, like you do a bike?!

huh...
i've just seen a really good job

4-K
Help. I cannot search on google at all. It asks me to solve a captcha, and when I do, it says, "400. That’s an error. "
I always use Firefox in private mode, still I cleared all the cookies and cache.

@djsmiley2k Because you'd want the brakes on the wheels which are driven by the engine
@4-K You pretty much just answered your own question

4-K
it doesn't work

It works for me

4-K
1:01 PM
but why I am getting a bad request error?

@OliverSalzburg which wheels does your engine push?
because most cars are front wheel drive anyway
most being common street going cars
google hates you
your goverment is hacking you
so many reasons
Does it work in non-incognito mode?
Have you restarted firefox?

how do i send a FF tab from my work PC to my home PC?

Have you tried another computer?
Have you restarted your computer?
@Burgi sign into sync, sync it?

4-K
I have restarted

cry like @dog when it dies horribly?

4-K
1:03 PM

@djsmiley2k I have a front wheel drive right now

4-K
now it worked.

@Burgi Ctrl + P

@4-K what changed?
is your clock in sync?

4-K
I did nothing
tried many times

1:04 PM
@OliverSalzburg thats print

@Burgi I know

@Burgi then stick it on your monitor at home XD

1:05 PM
everything is fine, except google I think

!!everythingisfine

@djsmiley2k That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

@Burgi isn't pocket integration supposed to be for that?

1:08 PM
i thought they had silently killed pocket off
you can push from the android version to a desktop

awesome @Bob, plain awesome

but not vice versa or desktop to desktop

Cambridge (/ˈkeɪmbrɪdʒ/ KAYM-brij) is a university city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, England, on the River Cam about 50 miles (80 km) north of London. At the United Kingdom Census 2011, its population was 123,867, including 24,488 students. There is archaeological evidence of settlement in the area in the Bronze Age and in Roman Britain; under Viking rule, Cambridge became an important trading centre. The first town charters were granted in the 12th century, although city status was not conferred until 1951. The skyline is dominated by the last two buildings, along with the spire of the...
@JourneymanGeek ;)
@Burgi what's pocket?

ah
I never used it
I used an open source clone for a bit

I used firefox sync, that worked nicely

1:11 PM
@djsmiley2k getpocket.com

then they got rid after I moved to chrome
Chrome sync hasn't failed me yet
you can google keep urls
but it doesn't save the page 'as is'

@djsmiley2k you live in Cam town?

lol no
I live in Cov Town :D

lolol
It's been awhile since I've been to Cambridge

I'm trying to recall if I ever have
It looks like you're trying to recall if you ever have.

Would you like help?
thanks clippy

1:14 PM
i heard a great quote on the radio at the weekend

tbh, better go to Oxford for a walk rather than Cambridge

been to oxford a few times

> the greatest critic of donald trump is donald trump two years ago

parking is expensive and terribad

@djsmiley2k That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

1:15 PM
Yeah Ox is great

1:39 PM
nom nom i want MOAR CHOCOLATEEE!

2:22 PM
yawn, my mind is so bored today
so bored i started reading about a poker cheat
@Burgi Doesn't seem very automatic
concidering all those responses appear very hand written

agreed

This creepy guy who's been after my girlfriend for a year just sent me a follow request on Instagram and a friend request on Facebook
Thinking of suitable comebacks...

i posted the url before i read the article

@Rahul2001 if he's actually creepy, block and ignore

Yes, will do

2:38 PM
Trying to think of what I can do at work, to keep my brain occupied...
as right now I've basically ran outta 'work' and don't want to advertise that fact too loudly

@djsmiley2k PHP PHP PHP PHP

I really want a linux box somewhere
@Rahul2001 that's exactly what I'd be doing if I had a linux box somewhere :D

@djsmiley2k sort through the box of ethernet cables?

get one?

Training.

2:38 PM
@djsmiley2k What's wrong with Windows?

There is a huge excel worksheet we are sent once a month, 8000 or so lines, that gets 'verfied' by hand... it's slow, people miss things, etc

Reading technical backgrounds

and then it's inserted into the 'autouploader' which runs for like 1-2 days before generating all the correct new records.

@Rahul2001 You don't run PHP in windows
No, just no

@Rahul2001 I don't have the access I need on it, and what @JourneymanGeek just said too :D

2:39 PM
etc

You'll pick up terrible habits like an indian coder.

and I know my way around linux much much better.

@djsmiley2k get a cheap VPS? ;p

@JourneymanGeek Some argue you just don't run PHP.... but I don't buy that

@JourneymanGeek I use it on linux... just asking xD
@djsmiley2k www.000webhost.com [free]

2:40 PM
grab some old hardware and throw it on?

@JourneymanGeek I can ssh home, but... that removes company property from company computers, etc...
yeah, I'm on a service desk, I'm not really meant to do stuff like that
/me asks some of the naughty kids

PIZZA!!

ah
that gets trickier
if it wasn't PHP, I have some ideas on the basic things

@JourneymanGeek you can install XAMPP or other apache varient and its fine
its just when you try to combine it with IIS

eww
in this case though, its about the only way

2:44 PM
I figure a web front end, upload file, first iteration of the program will just highlight the lines with errors on them
second itteration will 'fix' the errors
third will do automated picking up of the email, processing, and submission

lol
python!

@djsmiley2k that sounds like a job that a database is better suited to

OR.... forgive me for suggesting this, sharepoint

@Burgi these results are pushed into the db backend for the ticketing platform
but we recieve a .xls doc
with nice stuff such as line returns in it
extra spaces, all sorts of nasties
I don't yet have permission to access the db directly my self, that is someone elses pet and no one gets to touch it

2:50 PM
SHAREPOINT!!!!!

so right now lets just prove I can provide valid data.

its calling you!

lol wut?
why would sharepoint help?
did you miss the bit where we get to load this data into the db for the ticketing tool?

oooOOOOOoooooOOOOooooooOOooooOOOOooooooOOOOoooo
i may or may not have actually lost the plot

D:
i feel like I have today
8 days in a row work causes you to go a bit ga ga

hah

3:04 PM
not really
it was too physcological

that reminds me of a old CEO who got something prior to the new air coming out

very very moffat

used it once, went 'I can't use this' and gave it to my collegue
Hmmmm
I enjoyed it, i especially liked the lack of cliff hanger ending

that was nice

Though the girl on the plane?

3:05 PM
it reminded me of those weird dr who episodes he used to write that never really explained anything

SPOILERS AHOY STOP READING NOW - - I called that out right away - it didn't make sense

that was messed up

No it wasn't
why would she wake up?....
that didn't make sense, and instantly I called it out on that
I'm supprised that he didn't have Sherlock call her out on it either... or point it out later on
once you've got lack of oxygen, you don't wake up (unless someone fixes the situation)
Children infact faint sooner

NO NO NO NO SPOILERS

@Rahul2001 don't read it then

3:08 PM
Yes, not reading

Though I don't think there's any actual spoiler above tbh

Ping me when plots have stopped being discussed

@djsmiley2k in work can't really talk about it

We can discuss it in there.
awww ok @Burgi later
Anyone else who wants to, join that room and we can discuss without spoiling @Rahul2001

3:10 PM
You aren't spoiling me, you're spoiling the plot for me... I'm already spoilt xD

grrr

I need to bingewatch that at some point ;p

they put up the price of drinks at work, from £1.20 (expensive) to £1.50 (extortion)
So I'm gonna start running a crate of drinks out from under my desk, sure they aren't cold, but they'll be cheap ! :D

3:12 PM
@djsmiley2k Water-cool the crate :D

for some reason the aircon in here is set to 25C

Heh, I need mooooooooorrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee rep

@Rahul2001 post a silly question about CDs

WHY ARE CDS SO SHINY?
WHY ARE THEY MADE OF PLASTIC?

that would go HNQ

3:20 PM
Seriously?

then @DavidPostill will post an answer that explains they are actually made from frozen unicorn tears

> Actually they're made out of Oprah Whinfery's Sweat.
Uh... uh...

btw guys if you fancy a beer on saturday to celebrate my birthday we are meeting in the brewdog bar at 1930 GMT
@Rahul2001 you can have an orange juice

I'd prefer a fresh lime soda xD

and you must vacate the bar by 2100

3:26 PM
@Burgi I'll have a drink for you, but I won't be there
will that do?
How old btw?

34 :(

:O
I think
you're older than me

Dog
3:38 PM
:O
You're younger than Burgi?

Everybody is older than me.
I guess that makes me the wisest person in here.

@Hennes I don't think so xD

(At least according to D&D rules)

I'm 15...
Hence, the wisest

Dog
Does that make Rahul's girlfriend a pedo?

3:43 PM
@Dog She's even younger xD

I'm 32
I think
tho me and @Burgi share a month for birthdays

Q: Do ext3/4 file systems accumulate errors naturally (as reported by fsck)?

ShovasI run a number of CentOS 6 64bit servers with ext3/ext4 file systems. As far as I can tell, none of them have been shutdown improperly, but all of them have accumulated some file system errors that fsck now reports. Now, a few have IO errors which are going to lead to hard drive failures (we run...

With Batch, is there any way to runs commands in order of being listed? My batch file is running echo first despite of being last on the list.
if "%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%" gtr "1" if "%Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%" gtr "0" start "" cmd /c "@echo off&set /a Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value=%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%&for /l %%x in (1, 1, %Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%) do set /a Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value-=1&timeout /t %Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%&start "" cmd /c !User_Primary_Command!&cls&echo !Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value! Repeats Remain"

Batch commands run in order

@BenN Then why aren't my?
It shows 54 first, when it should be 5
@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
set Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value=5
set Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value=2
set User_Primary_Command="echo Hello world!&echo(&pause"

::repeat =1 and timer >0
if "%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%" equ "1" if "%Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%" gtr "0" start "" cmd /c "@echo off&timeout /t %Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%&start "" cmd /c %User_Primary_Command%
::repeat =1 and timer =0
if "%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%" equ "1" if "%Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%" equ "0" start "" cmd /c %User_Primary_Command%
I have been playing around with this for over two hours and can't figure it out.

I think you might need some parentheses with your if statements

I tried than it wouldn't run
It is the last if statment

@MathCubes Then you had the brackets wrong.

5:53 PM
This part here isn't working right "@echo off&set /a Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value=%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%&for /l %%x in (1, 1, %Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%) do set /a Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value-=1&timeout /t %Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%&start "" cmd /c !User_Primary_Command!&cls&echo !Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value! Repeats Remain"

I see you're using quotes; those force a string comparison, which mayormaynot be part of the problem

Really

I'm having trouble understanding your code when it's all on one line, could you use code formatting (four spaces at the start of each line) please?

Why are you using start ... everywhere?

Note that start does make the new process run asynchronously

5:55 PM
@BenN It is all on one line, the commands are separated by & :)

Because I need it to open up in a new cmd window
And I can't use a separate .bat file.

@DavidPostill Oh, it would be better IMO to use parentheses and have the different commands on different lines

@BenN Exactly. As we said above.

The /wait switch on start is probably what you want

How can I do this while still make it run right?

5:57 PM
Then it'll get a new window but also not progress in the current batch file until that process ends

@MathCubes I can't be bothered trying to untangle your mess.

Nope. I don't want it. Because I am making a laucher that open exec many commands

Alternatively, you could use PowerShell, which is dramatically easier to read and write ;)

@MathCubes Start with a simple batch file. Get it working. Then make it more complicated.

Yea I did

5:58 PM
@BenN Flagged for undeclared self-promotion :)

The code works perfectly if I do it another batch file without "&"
Such as this
@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
set Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value=5
set Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value=3
set User_Primary_Command="echo Hello world!&echo(&pause"
set Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value=%Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%
for /l %%x in (1, 1, %Timer_Primary_Repeat_Counter_Value%) do (
echo !Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value! repeats remain
set /a Timer_Secondary_Repeat_Counter_Value-=1
timeout /t %Timer_Primary_Second_Counter_Value%
cls
start "" cmd /c !User_Primary_Command!
