I can't help but remark on how clear the display is (especially font rendering) on my Surface Pro (1) compared to my Panasonic Viera TC-L32DT30 LED IPS HDTV (1080p HDMI 1.4)

no clue why the desktop's font rendering is so awful, but it is. really. jaggedy as hell

My brother is law's laptop is crystal clear on the desktop, but as soon as you open programs or anything that is behind a UAC prompt that window is immediately fuzzy.

tried fixing it by futzing around with pixel format in CCC, re-calibrating ClearType settings (couldn't tell a difference between one choice and the next), changing stuff in the menus...

the display has a ton of settings... backlight, brightness, HDMI color range, content type, color enhancement, C.A.T.S. (tempted to enable just due to acronym but it makes the display very dark), and some more stuff I'm forgetting

the main problems I have with the original Surface Pro are the limited disk space and the impossibility of using the type cover on any orientation other than on a flat desk... the 2 and 3 are supposed to fix those issues

In 2012, a news report by Vincent Verweij for Dutch broadcaster Katholieke Radio Omroep revealed that the contents of at least 16,000 Iomega hard drives were publicly available on the internet, due to the drives being sold with their password security systems disabled by default.

Among those affected were KLM, ING Group and Ballast Nedam, who all had sensitive and confidential material leaked in this manner. Parent company EMC Corporation refused to comment, but Brian Gruttadauria, a spokesman for Iomega USA, acknowledged the failure and said future models (starting February 2013) would come with password security enabled by default, and clearer instruction to users about the risks of unsecured data.

@JourneymanGeek that's certainly one of their design goals, yes -- extremely high I/O-driven workloads is one of the hallmarks of mainframes, and sets them apart from HPC, since HPC is more about raw computation power

you spend more money on transferring data from point A to point B (and storing it, extremely reliably) on mainframes
