I need to run some 'unauthorised' software for a little bit.

Easiest way for me is to get the linux version, and let my dad run it on a VM on my PC or on a livecd. but my dad dosen't do linux.

Photoshop?

naw
.... wait....
I could do it in windows.
I mean, use one of the modern.ie vms...
@MichaelFrank: I don't ever use PS ;p

@Bob: anything with ANR is expensive

Fancy!

In the early prototypes if the battery died , guess where the pinion rod went :-)
Because this ^ was too simple

Q: Does the word "out" carry sexual-minority flavour?

Igor RMy NGO and partners are producing a feature film about Russian speakers in the world, and to explain its point as bias-breaking, we came up with the name out, that's nicely expanded in the slogan as out of politics, out of bias, out of propaganda. Today a colleague from the US brought to my atte...

It took me a while to figure out what they meant...

a little late to be changing the name, but no time like the present to be advertising it slickly.

2 hours later…
9:36 AM

I need to get a installer for a linux program into a linux install. but I don't have space to download the whole thing
I have a thumbdrive but I don't think I can mount it as executable

Bob

@JourneymanGeek why not?

@Psycogeek Know this store? anythingradioactive.com
Anyone knows where to get electronic versions of industry magazines? I don't want to pay for physical magazine and have it shipped to my country.

what does "iface lo inet loopback" mean in /etc/network/interfaces
i know lo stands for loopback interface. iface may be interface.
so together they mean ??

interface (local) (ip address network) loopback
which is why typically there's always an inet there

also...
inet refers to both ipv4 and 6 i think
annnnd

Ash
@JourneymanGeek thanks :)

its wierd that he says inet is ipv4 only tho
since my systems don't have inet6 anywhere in /etc/networks and they do ipv6

Damn, it lostthe original creator name
I think it was you o.O

it was set up by allq long time ago. During Utkarsh time or something.

I don't remember anymore. I remember taking that image from a circa-2004 article
But not where I used it afterwards

5:04 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy If you want filesharing & pinging, set them to not public, don't change them to public :/
Setting them to public is supposed to block all that.

NAS drive (Buffalo) I can only connect to via ethernet. Has a "sparsebundle" file on it that's just a weird directory. Can't delete it, Finder crashed trying to view it and ls file.sparsebundle which is successful on this 800mb one I have has been running for ~4 hours and not returned on this 1.41tb one.
I have no clue how to help him

And I can't delete it... But not being able to access it's contents seems to be a bigger issue.

Bob
6:30 PM
Ehh... I'd say rip out the drive and attach it locally. (@rlemon, @Jhawins)
But I know nothing about the NAS in question, nor OS X.

@rlemon That's for Mac OSX to think it's a Time Machine backup

Bob
I guess you don't have SSH access?

6:55 PM
I told Jhawins to come back
sorry I know nothing :P

7:43 PM
come back Jhawins! come back!!!
if he has SSH, we could do the thingy thingy /hint

I again bring up my quip about the scene from the matrix where Cypher starts pulling plugs.

8:48 PM
Guys
My computer says missing operation system and i cant enter the bios
what can i do?

Why can't you enter the BIOS?

Nothing happens when i press the keys to enter the BIOS

Is the keyboard working?

Well afterwards i can press CTRL + ALT + DEL and the system resets so i guess?

Does it work if you press and hold the key to get into the BIOS just before it displays the message to enter the bios?

8:55 PM
'let me try 1 sec
No.
Seems like the keyboard is "lighting up" just when the message pops up
and not when im able to enter the bios
nvm the "num" key lights up at once so the keyboard should be on

I'd try disconnecting all non-essential equipment: Harddrive, CD/DVD drive, all USB peripherals other than the keyboard, networking, any extra monitors and try again. If that doesn't work, reset the BIOS by shorting the CMOS reset pins and try again.

1 hour later…
10:17 PM
@bob removing it was the only thing I wanted to avoid :P. I did it anyway. 392 minutes left to format when I left work. I'm guessing the drive itself has issues because things got weirder. Guess I'll find out tomorrow. Prob solved.

392 minutes to format? o.0
are you zeroing the drive instead of formatting it?

Well, I'm off for the weekend! Back on Tuesday everyone

10:35 PM
@allquixotic I had a pretty shitty computer history ;p

11:12 PM
i missed the entire 386 era.
