@JourneymanGeek got any more room in that doghouse? I may want to move in.
I can't stand it here. Nation of greed-crazed elite and complacent proles who don't realize how bad they have it.

Or on the conspiracy sites "singapore companies intiate mind control devices across the country" :-)

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ: We're just as bad.
HOWEVER the government thinks that near universal internet access makes good business sense.
But in many ways our government is slightly out of touch
well parts of it are

@JourneymanGeek incredibly, with all the buying power that Americans have on the global market, American government does not seem to think that near universal internet access makes good business sense. Apparently it's better to keep us in the dark!

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ: more that your ISPs are lobbying the government
it needs to be the other way around!

@JourneymanGeek well, the government is the corporations; it's one big gooey ball of friends who know friends.
at this point, Obama is CEO of America, Inc.

12:10 AM
@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ: thats the thing, they arn't
Here? Basically the government indirectly owns.... both bus/train companies, and at least one of the ISPs. The trade unions are essentially an extention of the government
In your case the government is a fully owned subsidiary of the corporations
for us, its the other way around ;p

gee not sure which is better :p

@Psycogeek: neither
in a sense, that shortcircuits the sets of checks and balances society as a whole needs to have
Ours works better in some respects
but in many ways lacks heart, and the human touch.
Thats changing slightly
(mainly cause the government lost 40% of the vote, and lost a 5 member constituency)

12:47 AM
Yeah, the government is practically run by corporations these days...
The voice of the people is being drowned out in a sea of millions of dollars in special-interest lobbying

12:59 AM
anyway... on a mess depressing note
I just came across this jagt.github.io/clumsy/index.html

@JourneymanGeek how to chat

Though I guess one COULD turn that into an epic answer

1:47 AM

Included gratuitious wikipedianess, and a reference to cat pictures.

Would this be the right place to ask if there's a way to mute audio in skype?

Yeah, I think so. I'd be surprised if it wasn't asked already though

Okay thanks, I wanted to make sure, I couldn't find anything about it oddly enough.

Bob
@jou uh that would be \n and \"; you used the wrong slash.
also, that question should probably be closed... just a gut feeling

Better now?
@Bob: eh, Yeah ;p
(I wouldn't mind if it was. Feel free to closevote it. Would be odd to answer and nuclear closevote)

Bob
2:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek Also the C comment block starts with /* and ends with */, though not really that important

@Bob: >_>
I'll fix that
That answer is full of the stuff that always trips me up

Q: Can we see the posts we (helpfully) flagged?

Valmiky ArquissandasWhen I flag a post and the flag is deemed helpful, the post is usually deleted. For example: http://superuser.com/questions/785287/how-can-i-protect-my-personal-folders-individually-with-password/785300#785300 This is probably a quirk of mine, but I'd like to see these posts anyway. Are they ac...

Interesting, Even if you delete a game from Local Cache, Steam doesn't delete everything
All the extra gmods and tf2 maps I downloaded occupy 17.2 gigs o_0
Wow, my Steam folder was 48 gigs ._.
I just removed D2 and Team Fortress 2 and the countless other stuff that Steam didn't delete.
Now I have more disk space ! ysy

If you are searching for a particular system file anywhere within C:, you will find many duplicate file names. But these files are not necessarily duplicates, and the OS does need them. For example, one might be a 32-bit version, and the other a 64-bit version. One might be a backup used by Windows Resource Protection (in case your main system files get corrupted). One might be part of a Windows Update, which sticks around in case you need to roll back the update. Don't try to be too clever: Windows is doing the right thing on its own. Leave it alone and it'll work. — ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ 59 secs ago

Can you give example of franchise?

Why not?

McD

Because.

McDonalds? So they are franchisers? But who is franchisee?

1:47 PM
The one who is buying the license is franchisee.
!!wiki franchise

Franchise generally means a right or privilege. It may refer to: Suffrage, the civil right to vote Jurisdictions used to be treated as property rights, and could be referred to as franchises. Franchising, a business method that involves licensing of trademarks and methods of doing business, such as: Chain store, retail outlets which share a brand and central management An exclusive right, for example to sell branded merchandise Media franchise, ownership of the characters and setting of a film, video game, book, etc., particularly in North American usage Rail franchising in Great Britain A...

Who bought license from McDonalds?

Franchisees

I know the definition. I am asking for real example.

I told you. McD is the example.

1:48 PM
McD is franchiser and franchisee?

Spoon is a great example.

@jokerdino Franchisee is a business operating under McDonald's brand under franchise agreement. How do I know when visiting local McDonald's branch its legal company name?

You ask them.

1:52 PM
@jokerdino Nope, I look on receipt I am given.

Good for you.

@jokerdino And I have looked but did not find it.

OK

Am I missing something?

quite a lot

1:53 PM
@JourneymanGeek Enlighten me?

hm. I don't have a big enough light.
(honestly? Wikipedia first! ALWAYS RESEARCH!)
and ask better questions. Moar details on what you know and why you need to know and what you really want to know.
also. take the spoon by the handle.

@JourneymanGeek I guess I wanted to know if you ever looked on receipt in your local McDonald's branch and saw something like what I am asking about.

ahh
I don't eat there ;p

So local business either can branch out on international scale or franchise on international scale?
What Amazon does is not franchising definitely.
To me franchising is having less control over brand's reputation and quality than branching out.

anyway, why are we talking about franchising? Do you have an assignment on it?

Bob
2:04 PM
branching out? franchising?

Anyone tried a Contour rollermouse? How does it work?

Hello
@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ I have installed the stuff for running the .net app now
Where do I go from here? I have the xrdp server running

@JordanRichards sorry, can't spare any time to help right now... all I can say is, start up Remote Desktop (start -> run -> mstsc) and try to connect to your server... if it doesn't work, google; I don't have time to help. once you get connected over RDP, just pull up a terminal, cd to the place where the app is, and run mono WhateverTheNameIs.exe and pray... if it doesn't work you probably need to update mono
(this is all assuming you installed XFCE as I gave you instructions for before; if not, you won't have anything to login to once you RDP in, so it'll just be a blank screen)
in mstsc you can either enter the IP Address of your server (public IP, of course) or if you have a domain name attached to it, enter that domain name
whatever you use to connect to it via putty should work
except the port is different obviously (don't specify a port to mstsc and it should find the correct one, since xrdp listens on the default rdp port)

Super-noob terminology question: My friend sent me the following message "The next step right now is adding git. What are your initials and I'll add you as a user so you can SSH into the server and navigate around a little bit."; what does he mean by "initials" in this context? The letters of my first and last name? My GitHub username? My SSH public key? I'm confused what this terminology means.

@Dennis Tell him your full name is Dennis Edward Noel Norton Ibanez Smith

@Dennis probably he means your keys.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Haha
@jokerdino Ah, ok, thanks!

if you want to ssh into a server, the server needs to have your public keys

7:02 PM
key(s)? is there more than one per device? or just one, i just generated one for my laptop

But wouldn't he ask for his public keys? Why would someone call those "initials"?
Unless he's an evil deity from the eight dimension with a very, very, very long name.

Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: Cannot find a free VT

Q: How can a Windows disk rolback itself? Files left 3 months old only

Boppity BopI know it sounds like a cheap thriller and that its easy to jump to a conclusion that I am a certified idiot :) however I want to tell that I am in software consultancy business for 25 yrs and I cant be that bad .. so please try to take this question more seriously than it sounds.. the facts. ...

Uhh... what?

what part did you not understand :-) as difficult as that might be.
We could retitle it, "My confused re-iteration of a file loss, as best as it spews out of my brain".
I have wrote many posts myself that were 10 times more confusing, added in the complete solutions to the problems later , still sounding about 5 times more confusing. Someone comes along re-interprets it back into a human language , then puts it in a blog :-)

Bob
11:13 PM
@Dennis maybe ask your friend to clarify? :P
I don't think I've ever heard of initials in the context of an SSH connection. Username, keys, password, yes. Initials? No.
