Does anyone recognize how to get to this window in server 2012? letitknow.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/12.png?w=1160&h=750
it's different than the one seen in AD users / groups -> user -> profile tab
* - the profile part

Okay Installing Debian on a 400 Mhz single core computer is a bad idea

should have went with the 397mhz

4:34 AM
lol

Bob
5:14 AM
o in Polish means "about" :S

5:48 AM
I don't have a Mac, so I'm just curious.....how does someone decide if a question about, say belongs here or on Ask Different? ....it appears that Superuser has more questions about osx (14,443) than the Apple site does (8,815)!

Bob
@Shokhet Wherever you prefer.
AD accepts some things ('best', 'list of X') SU doesn't. But otherwise questions are equally acceptable on either, and it's just personal preference and whether the asker even knows the other site exists.

@Bob Gotcha. Thanks!
I guess that just means that SU is more well-known than AD is.

Okay this galileo is bloody slow

6:11 AM
lol
Its faster than some of my old systems I suspect ;p

Bob
@HackToHell What did you expect?

@Bob :/
Blah Intel why you no put sources on github

Oh hell tar 1.27 breaks build, I have to use 1.26 -_-

Morning. Am I being messed about here. I've answered a question which appears as spam and their follow up comment on my post made me epic face slap myself superuser.com/questions/845598/…
Just going to get a tea

@Dave I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid you can't do that.

Right
I rushed back
and left the tea
you don't like tea?
@HackToHell pant pant

My Roccat Kone XTD is randomly disconnecting on me at times and I suspect an EMI issue

Its probably dying
Mine did that before it went dark

8:23 AM
This often happens when I plug in headphones or when certain devices are connected to the other USB ports
Wondering if a ferrite bead would help

You lot have too many toys to play with
I mean, why a 'posh' mouse?
Don't get me wrong, my mouse is super posh but, it's a vertical mouse and purchases for RSI, but what do these types of mouse offer?

This was happening most often with a USB-powered charger plugged in on one of the other ports, so I suspect that Roccat is doing a bad job with EMC
@JourneymanGeek Any specifics as to when you experienced these disconnects?
Like I said, could this be an EMI/EMC issue?

8:45 AM
Bleh does anyone have any idea how large is the linux kernel source ?
Ah hell it's more than 1 gig

9:02 AM
@DragonLord: was random, I had it connected through a roccat mouse bungee/USB hub, then directly
@Dave: Its big and heavy
I miss that mouse :/
Also, whoo, internet.
I had to connect through my phone for a bit, ISP was having minor gremlin attacks

Does $5 Black Friday for Nod Security sound like a good idea? newegg.com/Product/…
People say last Black Friday that discount was available also. I wonder if such discount would work every Black Friday so I could take advantage of low price.

@Boris_yo Isnt anti vir paid for yearly for the pay packages? so a low price or even student discounts on anything, are short term lock-you-in , they could give it away, if they can get you used to useing it, and paying for it over and over again. Just like Getting Windows OS or Apple computers for free (to use) in school, or having free photoshop.

Yes, but people say last Black Friday they offered it for $5 too...
You think if I renewed again with $5 the license would not work and require me to pay for regular license?

A person should make choices of this type , as wisely as they can, not based only on price. Try to undo 4 years of using photshop :-) for the next 20 years your hand will still go the the unmask filter even if it is not there :-)
@Boris_yo If your trying to get a cheap renew, you may have to do so under a different "name" they dont chum the waters with bait for those already on the hook :-)

@Psycogeek Then I will buy this $5 license 5 times and be good for next 5 years.

in ya dreams :-) could be that is all they need $5 from 5 million people, is enough to keep a data base updated.

11:07 AM

what's the story on that McAfee guy anyways? (make A Fee) ?

@Psycogeek McAfee? Don't know but from all paid ESET is best for me.
I will buy license because I am sick and tired of Norton. License will be active for this year and then I will see how to go from there. Maybe this same promotion will be going next Black Friday.
Okay, so apparently shooting on this period in time on balcony is not only having consistent lighting but feeling cold and getting wet in rain. That's why I have decided to get retractable tripod and Neewer LED.

@Boris_yo well eventually you will have the $1000 setup :-) sooo go big or go home :-)
Just watchout for LEDs white leds have a terrible color spectrum, and china white (uhh not heroine:-) leds can have an even worse one.
So when color is really important, a ccrt , or florescent with a wide spectrum phosphors can be better, or old school halogen lighting, shop lights are cheap to buy, expencive to pay for the power on them, and hazerdous if you catch things on fire with em.
There are LEDs in existance that have wide range phosphors built into em, much like a florescent tube, but these quality lighting leds are few and far between, like Nichita makes some with a better "CRI" but again cri is just metered BS, high CRI is "better" but most high CRI is faking out a meter, not filling up a spectrum.

11:24 AM
@Psycogeek Why mail in rebates exists when we are all connected via internet? Is this another way of letting customer feel he has to overcome barriers to feel like a winner?

@Boris_yo Large percentages of rebates are never fulfilled. So plan A) get the persons mailing address, and e-mail, and phone. Now you have a customer list, it may even say in the fine print they can sell this list. PlanB) feed off the lazyness of humans, many people will not fill out the rebate, or forget about it, or not send it in on time . PlanC) unload the rebate process on 3rd party individuals, that will likely reject many rebates, until the time passes, then reject again because
. . . It is to late
Plan D) take so long to provide the rebate , that the person forgot that they had made one.
and Plan E) the person has now removed parts of the packaging, so the product is not longer returnable. Plan E2 ) because the rebate takes to long to process, they also are unlikely to return the product.

@Psycogeek No free lunches... Sceptical... Indifferent people but A) is what I don't like.

It is so perfect, and evil at the same time, i wish i had thought of it myself :-)

People say $5 ones are "isolated" licenses and can be activated one after another.

@Boris_yo RTFP , usually it is all there in the 50 pages of leaglese crap that nobody reads, but everyone is an authority on :-)

11:35 AM
@Psycogeek Read the fricken policy?

Read the Fine Print.
But yea close enough :-) and the part about "subject to change at any will or whim we desire"

@Psycogeek "... to disable all your licenses (sorry) because a big part were given away this Black Friday outside of out control and whole world bought them and is good for next 5 years which will leave us working for free. Happy New Year tirekickers!"

lol

11:51 AM
With still cameras any stick that stays together that the legs lock, that wont blow away in the wind (if your out in the wind) with a "quick releace" for the camera (the tripod shoe stays on the camera), would work.
If you do a lot of Art crap, getting one that does lots of stupid angles , yet still is straight. If you do landscape , then you must have good Balance bubble.
I would rather have the sony, of those.

@Psycogeek Sony R100 or 640?

640
doing squats could be important for shooting stuff on floor or desk, where the legs will go lower than closed. the "spreader" between the legs is soo freaking helpful to keep a tripod from being a puppet with no strings. But locked length spreaders you cant do the squats (1 foot off the floor).
When doing video stuff, i use a tripod sitting low to the ground only 1-100 times, sooo i only have one thing that will do it.
I think most product shoots (especially many in a row) would be best done at a comfortable height for the human. put them on desk height, and the tripod never need go any lower.

@Psycogeek Spreader? You mean center equilibrium with hook to add weight?
@Psycogeek I don't have desk in room where I want to shoot. I have coffee table with height of 19.68 inches.

12:06 PM
@Boris_yo I do not know if i use the correct word, got our own language here, we make it up as we go along. amazon.com/Opteka-54-inch-Aluminum-Magnesium-Release/dp/… <-- no spreader, amazon.com/Manfrotto-028B-Aluminum-Studio-Triman/dp/B001A1POIQ/… <-- locked length spreader between legs, stabalises legs.

I want to shoot under daylight halogen light. Since LED light is 5600K, I think this should be good. I am contemplating between Neewer CN-126 and Neewer CN-160.

You hate ground spreader on $600 tripod?
Tripods in links I gave all have middle spreader.

amazon.com/Manfrotto-MVH502A-546BK-1-Professional-Aluminum/dp/… <-- adjustable length spreader, so each leg can be at a different angle. take much longer to setup, but more versitile for hills, tight spaces, and weird locations, where the angles and floor and everything is not flat.
@Boris_yo I hate even more $4000 tripod :-) For video,and for the cameras i have , i use certian ones for certian camera and job. Cheap tripods are complete junk for video, work great for pictures. really expencive tripods can be Only really expencive not really better.
. . . for video, anything works for pictures. but added Angles would be usefull.

@Psycogeek You must be familiar with lithium-ions battery packs used in camcorders. So this Neewer LED takes 6AAs but they last 30 minutes or so. There is a way to use camcorder battery packs in them: Sony's for example
But to charge these I will need camcorder battery pack charger like this: amazon.com/niceEshop-NP-FM50-Np-f330-Np-f550-Np-f570/dp/…

12:17 PM
Why not flash? I donno. there are flash units that do not need to be electrically connected. the external flash sees the camera flash go off, and it triggers the added flash. then you can have big arse vivitar flashgun, (or 2) and diffusse the heck out of it.

Now I don't know if there are hazards to using these packs plus lithium-ion batteries caused headache to freight companies this year or last. I can also buy external wall socket power adapter and have continuous power: amazon.com/Neewer%C2%AE-CN-AC2-Switching-Supply-Adapter/dp/…

so this does not require a hot-shoe

@Psycogeek What? Neeweg? It has it's own that screws on tripod's 1/4 thread
@Psycogeek Because I am supposed to shoot products without flash.

@Boris_yo lights like that should come with some charge method, and plug method?

@Psycogeek Not this one. It comes with hot shoe and adapter for mounting camcorder battery pack but it works with AA NiMH batts as well. But it mentions to use AA lithiums.

12:24 PM
@Boris_yo well continuous light gives you much more control, and better vision for focus, and knowing the end product, but photographers will often still be using flash, even if it is a bulb that goes from 100-500W

@Psycogeek Flash is good for shooting people because with that bright LED people will walk away due to annoyance.
But there is continuous flash too, right?

@Boris_yo well so to speak. EX the led "flash" on cheap cameras and phones, is originally designed for "flash" it does not have enough cooling. but then is applied for video too. so it is a continuous flash. The photographers will use a highly diffuse ican , that bursts up to a high output, or uses a flash tube and a light bulb.
They just want 2 thing (well 3) , enough light to focus, lots of light to capture picture. (and 3 freaking color spectrums)

@Psycogeek Why there's need for cooling flash?

@Boris_yo Leds have a "junction temperature" they slowly brun out the hotter they are at the "gate" area . most led lighting was not cooled well, much of that has changed. A poorly cooled led could last only 300 hours (even though they lie and say it would last 100,000. a properly cooled led will last 20,000 hours. (none of them really last 100,000 to 50% original brightness) referrring to the White Phosphor type.

@Psycogeek How to find out what cooling mine has? Is this passive cooling?

12:34 PM
@Boris_yo it is only big fat expencive led that is not passive cooling.

@Psycogeek Expensive LEDs are cooled well?

It is all rather complicated. but 5mm leds in the arrays, are concidered cool enough because there is low heat in each one. but still a university study shows they do not last well at all (again the white ones)
Then there are SMD board mount leds, these have a base (in the little part that outputs the light) that is designed to be heatsinced. but not all products mount them in a way that they are being cooled.
Then there are big Fat leds, of 1W-100W that have metal bases that must be cooled, either large passive (and i mean a lot) or something like a cpu cooler. thse metal base (star) leds will truely last 20K hours to 50% not much else really does
Take your usual 7-15 watts of leds, the fact that they are only 10-15% efficient, and whatever the wattage IS , is basically what the wattage need for cooling is. Just like the thermals on a cpu. And just like a CPU if that waste heat is not removed, it ages faster. for LEDs the temp is supposed to be Somewhere around 70*C at the Gate (the hot part)

@Psycogeek Neewer has LEDs in arrays?

~10 watts, do you see about 10 watts of cooling? it is the differance (again) between the $30 products, and the $130 products :-) and such is life. one is for playing around, and the other is for 2+ years of continuous use.

12:50 PM
@Psycogeek Guys have been using for years and are happy.

Ya gotta start somewhere. no mater what you do, buying server space, setting up a web, shooting pictures, running crappy software , or buying products, it always starts way the F \|/ down there, and ya learn.
candlepowerforums.com/vb/… See here is one of my designs :-) worlds first RGB color adjustable flashlight .
candlepowerforums.com/vb/… <--- this is my living room light, it has lasted 10years, it is almost like it was, it is a bit dimmer.
<--- is also LED and battery geek.

1:05 PM
Gadgeteer you are. Wanna start producing your line from China factory and create your own brand?

@Boris_yo no usually i only want Stuff to Work Right ! and to work for time. that means either paying $$$$ or "if you want it done right, do it yourself" Ahh usually i would be better off paying :-)

1:22 PM
@Psycogeek You mistaken in associating China with poor quality. It is the thing of the past because today there's quality assurance and quality control but it is up to companies. Efforts can be put into ensuring quality.

China makes everything :-) good or bad, they keep the good for themselves :-)
They send us the crap that didnt work right , give you a good deal on it too

To save $300 on quality inspection when ordering goods worth of $5000 that you will sell for at least $15000?
@Psycogeek They? No. It was us. They only offered - we took it without thinking.

I want a taiwan motherboard again :-(
which is cool because china is "aquiring" taiwan :-)

Usually it's importers who make sure what they import complies with standards in their country but with advent of internet, everyone can easily "import" themselves at cheap prices, bypassing scrutiny of importer, CBP and regulating government agencies. If something happens, there's nobody to sue.

Confusion say: Employee who make little pay on horrible assembly line do not care if it dont work right.
Confusion also say: I couldnt afford the one that is meticualously crafted .
(like back in the 1600s when they did that :-)
I made my own video light, more or less before they even sold them. i had to add red leds and a small ammount of cyan leds to balance out the spectrum. An interesting thing. I laid it down on its face (where the light comes out) and didnt know any better. in about 10 minutes all the leds overheated :-O

1:35 PM
@Psycogeek Cooler please!
@Psycogeek The following about alkaline/NiMH/Lithium batteries is true or myth?

"If your device requires multiple AA batteries, it's important to use exactly same batteries and not mix them up with other brand's and types of AA batteries."

Even the right PCB (printed curcuit board) that is "Clad" (copper layer) would have improved the cooling a lot, as each of the led legs can get some spreading like on a motherboard.
@Boris_yo true. series batteires are critical that they all be delivering the same way. and worst thing you can do to any battery be it primary or rechargable is to "reverse charge" one of the cells in a series pack. This "charge" comes from the fact that when the device is powered , all the batts and the curcuit are connected in one big loop. one dead battery then gets charge going the wrong way.
Also other things , but that is the worst of it, and one of the reasons crappy china knockoff packs are so bad.
(china in this case only being the location they are made , crappy and knockoff being the real problem)

2:04 PM
Life threatening. Some importers want quick small products but don't do their homework properly. The liability with such things is quite high.

I see how what supposed to be a good product on Amazon has uneven feedback and what I found out is 3rd party sellers with knockoffs or chinese electronics.
Rakuten try to imitate Amazon's "Buy Box" by the way...

@Boris_yo: also the voltages can be different
as well as the discharge rates

@JourneymanGeek You quote wrong sentence.

I didn't quote at all ;p

@JourneymanGeek Okay. You replied to the wrong sentence.

Nope
I didn't. I replied to no sentence.

@JourneymanGeek Guys say you can buy all 5 of these and use them each year. Do you agree? newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832114054

Precisely!
@Boris_yo: I don't pay for antivirus ;p

@JourneymanGeek Which one you use?

And I rather doubt it works that way.

confession time: I don't use antiviruses on my home PC.

Defender/MSSE on windows 7 and 8
avast on the last XP box

@JourneymanGeek Yes, seems unbelievable that all 5 won't expire this year...
@JourneymanGeek MSSE is soooo slow to remove something.

Also, I run limited user accounts
@ThatBrazilianGuy 0_0

hi, what is the technology that wireless mouses work on ?
i mean this one:
is it blutooth or infrared?

2.4 GHz radio technology

i mean the communication between the mouse and usb wirelss receiver
so, it's 2.4 GHz UHF ?
the same one that is used for wi-fi internet connection?

that was it, i think they use a sort of BT, but not actual bluetooth. which is the same frequency.
Its Mouse tooth :-)

2:29 PM
i mean, if i buy a wireless usb receiver from eBay... will it work with my mouse?

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength UHF radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz[3]) From de wiki

i lost the original usb wireless receiver...
that's the one that i wanna buy

@JANORTS if it is one of them $2 dongle USB things made in the same factory in china it is likely to work the same, if it was a premuim wirless kit with propriatray stuff , not as likely.
@JANORTS thats not mousetooth :-) that is a real BT dongle. pairing and all buffers, etc.
I donno, might make a great question on SU, just how many ways do they communicate in similarity to different devices. I have china dongle RF 2.4 and a "real" BT channel hopping, gets "paired" mouse thing, they are completly different.
The system also, when you plug in these mouse tooth things they comes in as a HID or input device somehow as seen and drivered by the OS. Probably more a 1 way type of thing? Plug in a BT and driver it up, and it is BT connection. which probably can be made to do just about anything. Headphones (out) , Input devices, even video.

2:50 PM
@Psycogeek Looks like a good deal? bhphotovideo.com/c/product/910126-REG/…

@Boris_yo looks nice, now you just go over to stevesdigicam, and spend an hour with the analisis of it before buying :-)

@Psycogeek I need consultation?

@Boris_yo where is the OIS? although you dont need it, I do :-)

@Psycogeek OIS?

1. I am the only user
2. I run linux most of the time, and even when I'm on windows:
3. I don't ever download executable attachments
4. I don't download from untrusted sources
That's not what I recommend to anyone, but that's what I do ("Do as I tell you, not as I do")

2:57 PM
OIS (optical image stabaliser) for what your doing, you probably might want to concider if it "can be made to" manuel focus, even if that is a crappy digitaly way (instead of physical lens move) way of doing so.

@Psycogeek How come it shows as having bigger sensor than Sony RX-100?

OIS can stop the blur on even tripoded pictures, when you go to push De Button, and the camera moves. Only other way is to get some sort of plunger shutter adapter thing, or electronic remote. Or cheap trick use the 2 or 10 second self-timer.
@Boris_yo does sony use the Exmore (sp) cmos :-) i donno, but there are all sorts of conciderations on the sencor, and cute names for the advancements of them. sensitivity is one of them, size for register jumping light , especially with Black on White (hard contrast blowing over to the next pixel thing).
It is just like clock speeds on processor, they dont mean a lot for just the one number. especially that MegaPixel bull. and speaking of processors, what is going to process that nasty raw collected image (which has nothing to do with raw bitmap storage). different cameras have different "methods" and Ammounts of processing the signal prior to storing it.

@Psycogeek I did it too recently. What is pan head and ball head in tripod?
Pan is for compacts and ball is for heavy stuff?

3:14 PM
@Boris_yo I hate balls. But if you get a half ball accepting tripod, and a half ball head (top part) you can adjust for Level , without adjusting the legs. They are just about a kludgey, but pros would swear by them, i only swear at them.

@Psycogeek Pan head is same as ball head? I saw plastic ball and metal ball.

same thing those little ball knobs sticking up that give your STILL camera freedom of swiveling movement, think about how top heavy that is (and think how easily they could have done a good counter balance by placement) . It is better to have "axis" movement, to shift seperate each axis that you wish to change, instead of flying around till you get them all 3 right in one move.
@Boris_yo Pan is to move from side to side. fluid (or fake fluid) is to move side to side smoothly.

@Psycogeek Pan is 2-way and ball head is 3-way?

amazon.com/ALZO-Tripod-camera-release-safety/dp/B002BKX6EE/… <--- this example of free 3 axis bal on the HEAD (top) of the tripod. which has nothing to do with a "leveling ball" between the legs and the "head".
The idea looks usable, but how many real photographers would use that? blair witch special ? and how much wieght you plop on to of there is going to determine how much control of the camera you have when you loose the clamp.
@Boris_yo pan (left right side to side) and tilt (up down) , 2 seperate axis. 3 rd axis usefull for stills to rotate (landscape portrait) could be usefull for effect, and much better than ball head like above example. To be able to lock any axis in place, to change another axis. not loose the whole.

@Psycogeek Okay, I need 2-axis one which will have to be ball head.
3rd axis is not that necessary if you can turn tripod itself.

3:28 PM
@Boris_yo 3rd axis to show something crooked on purpose :-) fun, cool cat picture, very few products :-)

Ugh, the worst combination of issue labels
Perfect fit for my avatar though! :D

@Boris_yo boris how about using a 4K web cam, light dimmers that connect to the computer. 10,000 pan tilt head, and product rotation conveyor? then you sit at computer push buttons really fast. eventually get replaced by software that sences products :-)
It would be like pushing out bagels, we could setup the computer to do 100 products a minute. , have every product in the world finished in 2 months, sell the same picture to everyone in the world, and put at least 50,000 people out of a job :-) Then charge 5cents for each one, that should pay off the machines in 20 years , and affords that one employee who keeps things from flying off the conveyor.

How does PayPal work when I pay with my PayPal account? It is connected to my MasterCard or to my bank account?
So, I can connect my PayPal account to a MasterCard / VISA card even when the card was issued by some different organization not by a bank?

3:45 PM
Then after the "Product Snap 4000 Inc" goes public, then we claim a loss of 5 million dollers , because were to stupid to sell it for its real value. But now were "to Big To Fail" so we get the government to bail it out, take the money and retire in cancun.
@JANORTS It can be connected to either. Although people in the know would say to connect such things only to seperated accounts or cards for that purpose, with limited available funds.
@JANORTS yes, as long as they can connect to it, suck money out. they dont know a banks card from a private issue items. and there is no requirement to be attached to your bank account. How different it gets when selling High ticket, i dont know, because between e-bay and paypal they have some provisions for keeping people from collecting on EX: 10 Ipads and not delivering.

1 hour later…
5:08 PM
@Psycogeek You know that every brand supplies their own charger for batteries? Eneloop, Energizer etc.

Would I be better off buying 1 good universal charger or have charger for each brand of batteries?

@Boris_yo some people would say that the battery companies own chargers Eat batteries for a living on purpose :-) Some of them certannly suck, but most of them will do the "job" there are way better battery chargers, but they are expencive and a lot of user fiddling with it, or at least understanding it.
If you want better battery treatment (longer life), but not always as high a charge (sometimes less runtime) , some of the MAHA chargers have an added sencing that causes them to stop charging before torture. wheras most ni-mhy chargers use a specific alogrythm that is (by default) torture and it is the "Book" method. you cannot get anyone to understand there is a "better way" to charge ni-mh batteries because "it's In the Book".

@Psycogeek Of course. Company's secret of increasing recurring sales of their batteries. Good one and I thinl I need MAHA since I long time wanted it. What is a good store for it if not Amazon?

the book cannot be unwritten, and it is followed by all, to thier doom if need be :-)

You said more charge = less run time. Like these? amazon.com/…
There are 1900mAh, 2100mAh and 2450mAh eneloops.
For LED that takes 6AAs would I be better of taking 2100mAh or 2450mAh?

@Boris_yo yea good choice, just get that and be done with it, untill anything goes wrong.
A different choice is to avoid high-capacity batteries of any type, get the 2000 panasonics (formely eneloop) because they are more "robust" they will have a way better shelf-time, they will stand up to abuse better, and they will stay charged longer. This all holds true until the actual technology itself changes, and they can Fit more POWER in without making something weaker and less robust.
And again(why did this have to happen) the sanyo and panasonic batteries made in the japan factroy are better than the junk made in the china factory, under the exact same specs with the same materials, with the same people in charge etc, It makes zero sence , but it exists.
and panasonic basically ruined the streak sanyo had going, by farming them out to what is probably a cheaper location.

5:23 PM
@Psycogeek Quality assurance and control?
@Psycogeek Panasonic bought Sanyo eneloops?
That means batteries are now made in cheap factories in China?

@Boris_yo they bought sanyo itself didnt they? then pawned off parts of it , and kept the best of sanyo themselves to profit and destroy .

@Psycogeek I am not aware of news...

@Boris_yo that is what they tell me. and many people were showing number drops, my own testing shows that either i got fake ones , or they are not "as good" as the ones before panasonic.
luckily they are still fully usable, and follow the same trend, but i cant get the same numbers, or staying charged time. .002% impurities could do something like that.

Dang, they don't have eneloops 1900, only 2100. Dang, they don't have eneloops XX 2500, but pros 2450

@Boris_yo ahh its all the same, look at the specs, it will say "nominal" and capacity is all about rate of discharge anyways.

5:33 PM
@Psycogeek Where is it mentioned 1900mAh?
1900mAh min, indeed.

1900 is the least a 2000 would do?

@Psycogeek I have eneloops 2400mAh but this one at least 2450mAh.
Would that cause conflict?

I dont know, and you do know that because eneloopies were tested for both time and age and cycles to be wonderfull, they are probably the most cloned thing out there now.
You even have buyers there at amazon who are so sure they got clones from certian sellers, bad chargers , the whole bit.
You know DX got caught selling clones of these for full price, was attacked over the web about it, and claimed "it was a distributer who ripped them off" 3 months later DX turned around and sold them again, knowing the difference.

@Psycogeek Seller ripped them again?
Amazon Basics kind of cheap and have good rating.

@Boris_yo that is not what is assumed. they figred that DX could care less.
and again "To clarify, there are three different versions of AmazonBasic rechargeable NiMH batteries:
- The original AmazonBasics batteries came in black wrappers. They are made in China and have the capacity rating of 2000mAh. They are NOT as good as Sanyo eneloop batteries.
AmazonBasics AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries

- The second version of AmazonBasics batteries came in white wrappers. They are made in Japan and also have the capacity rating of 2000mAh. They are (according to me) rebranded..."
The third version is also black but called 'high-capacity'. They are (according to me) rebranded Sanyo XX. They are rated 2400mAh, but actual capacity is around 2550mAh, just like Sanyo XX. The rated lifespan of the XX is only 500 cycles
I would have to verify that amazon re-branded any of the sanyo or panasonics, DuraSell did sell Japan sanyos, AND some chinese garbage. it takes an hour in a the CSI lab to figure out which are the good ones :-)
There are ceritan markings and patterns that battery geeks follow to know, but i have even seen the battery geeks fall for clones, by the Case Full.
ships and sold by amazon , or for $4 less you can get some garbage from locations that 10 years ago they were not only spammers, but they were known frauds. But today :-) is all business as usual :-)

5:54 PM
@Psycogeek I can't find my Sanyos 2400mAh min and 2500mAh. That's what is said on my package. Mine are previous version and I don't know if mixing them and Sanyo 2450mAh, 2550mAh is okay. I probably bought mine before Sanyo was acquired.

""I gave it 3 stars because it's written on it that it's made in japan but when I opened it I found that the charger is made in china"" lol. even if the batts might be made in both places, it is likely that all the chargers hold the china label.
@Boris_yo then go back to your original question. And i will extrapolte. Do not mix Capacity , brand, Age and Quality, when using in series.
Same ness, they all work together as a team. people will even mark the teams with numbers and all.

@Psycogeek I will try to be as close as I can.
@Psycogeek These are Amazon batteries in white wrappers you were talking about?
Darn it. How can one keep up with constantly chaging batteries when he wants to add to his already existing collection? None of that I have can I buy again because times changed. Now if I buy LED that takes 6 AA batteries, I only can offer 4 of each brand. The other 2? Safe or sorry? Safe is to purchase 8 AA batteries again and since I already have 4 Sanyos, 4 eneloops and 4 AmazonBasics this will add 8 AA of something new.

6:15 PM
Hi All

@Psycogeek I have group numbers on most of my Eneloop cells.

there could be DragonLord follows the rescent changes and clones better?
@Boris_yo 32. it is the prime battery number :-) it goes into 8 6 4 and 2 , just not 3, then you have to throw 2 out
oops, no its 48, thats the one, but you should get 52, because you always have to have a backup :-)
And there are 52 battery changes in a common year :-)

6:41 PM
@DragonLord Group numbers?

6:54 PM
amazon.com/… this looks like a legit high starred seller, who hanst caught flac from users yet.

Is it possible to install an operating system from just an ISO?
Basically, I have a CentOS ISO, but I don't feel like burning it to a CD. Nor do I have a USB to put it on.
I am running Win8.1, anyway to mount the ISO and boot off it?

Mount the iso, reboot without windows (and thus without mounted iso) and then boot from the now missing iso?

Maybe I did not understand it correctly.
You want to install an OS from a CD (or rather, from an Iso)
That means either virtualisation or no other OS running
The last includes your windows 8.1

@Bob Huh; the Microsoft Store is having ridic sales right now on those 1 GiB / 2 GiB RAM 7 and 8" Windows 8.1 x64 tablets.

7:02 PM
So what use it mounting the iso in windows ?

I almost pressed Order on one then realized I don't need it.

@allquixotic almost another victom of black fryday hyper insane mustbuyevery syndrome (source)

hmm, time to check wikipedia. There is something called danksgeven
Lets find out that that is about

7:05 PM
I'll probably get one when they finally double the specs on those... might be worth it with 4 GiB RAM and 128 GiB storage and 2015 CPU.

eww sounds like what happens when the turkey thaws out all wrong.
Stanksgiving

Ah, it is a harvest celebration.
@allquixotic I'll happily settle for 8GiB RAM and 60GiB storage.
Though to be fair, I already ordered a new laptop.

@DragonLord That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

@DragonLord You do not have permission to use the command undo

1 hour later…
8:22 PM
Darn it!
So I uninstalled Norton shitty antivirus just to buy license for NOD ESET 2015 and what do ya know? They do not accept international billing address associated credit cards!
I now have US man! What am I going to do now with no antivirus on my PC? (no, I don't want free one)

8:38 PM
@Boris_yo Continue on with life?

@CanadianLuke No, will need to find a way to make that purchase.

Move... Or get another Anti virus (AVG, maybe?)

Bob
8:55 PM
@allquixotic Huh. Got an example?
Oh, and the 1-2GB RAM ones are usually x86-32.
I can't see the US store :\

9:24 PM
> Z3745
relative to the others, this is a good bit more advanced
> 8-inch HD touchscreen
Intel Atom Z3745
2GB memory/32GB eMMC

Bob
Huh.
All we get is a $100 voucher from a SP3
I don't think the local MS store even sells third-party hardware.
I'm not finding 2GB of RAM to be too big an issue yet. The previous-gen Atom and onboard GPU are worse.

9:42 PM
sigh
I've had it with my 2012 Nexus 7 (32GB WiFi)
I'm backing up personal files and will do a factory reset shortly
I'll unlock the bootloader while I'm at it
I don't even care that much about gaming on it any more

10:05 PM
Anyone happen to know if there is a Dell application that can auto find and install all these Dell drivers?
I'm really not looking forward to doing it manually..
Oh, looks like I found it.
sigh. Requires .NET 4.5.
in Ask Ubuntu General Room, 8 mins ago, by Seth
Ugh, I don't ever want to see another Dell computer in my life.

@Bob I went ahead and ordered the Z3745 :D
the ASUS thing
needed a replacement for the N7 form factor after I gave it to my mom

10:23 PM
Rebooting the tablet.

Bob
@allquixotic Have fun with it :P
I rather like my one, even if the CPU is poor.
The 10" screen is nice though.
@allquixotic does it come with a stylus?
I think the one on Amazon did. $199 last I checked.

10:39 PM

11:02 PM
Enough—I'm switching to CyanogenMod
sigh

I'm getting sick of the snow. Yes, today is the first day of it, but people are fucking dicks out on the roads!@

Q: Recommend few specific command line tools. (Windows)

Snoop05Can you recommend me small command line utilities for Windows that can do these things? I prefer open-source ones. No Powershell please. Utility that will download a file when specified URL, HTTPS support will be good. Utility that will find specific strings or values in XML file. Utility that ...
