@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Accidentally? There was no accident there.

> Mark 11:12-14 As they left Bethany the next day, he was hungry. Off in the distance he saw a fig tree in full leaf. He came up to it expecting to find something for breakfast, but found nothing but fig leaves. (It wasn’t yet the season for figs.) He addressed the tree: “No one is going to eat fruit from you again—ever!” And his disciples overheard him.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Where do you get this information? It sounds like someone took a lot of time misreading the bible.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC And the relevance is...?
@ConorO'Brien Haha, indeed!

@El'endiaStarman random bible quote

8:30 PM
exceeeeept that's not the bible, or at least, not a reliable translation.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I highly contest your claim that it was random.

@ConorO'Brien The Message Translation; Mark 11:12-14; other translations have this effect too

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC didn't smbc discuss this quote?

12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC The verse meaning is more allegorical than anything else. Jesus did not curse the tree because he was ignorant of the season, but rather, because it showed that people who spiritually provide nothing and are consequently nothing are in effect "cursed"

@ConorO'Brien It sounds, however, weird out of context.

8:34 PM
Yes. This is why you don't quote out of context, especially religious texts.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC That's why keeping it in context is so important and emphasized by so many people.

My pastor said something about fig tree botany
The figs come first, then the leaves, IIRC

oh, cool. I didn't know that
@El'endiaStarman ninja'd, even in italic placement :P

If the tree is in full leaf, and it isn't even fig season, it's essentially done nothing.
Let me find a source for that

a source would be awesome!

From Wikipedia on cursing the fig tree:
> F. F. Bruce states that fig trees produce "taqsh" before the season if they are going to bear fruit in the season itself. Since this one didn't, it was a sign that it would not produce any fruit that year either.

That is really neat, I had no idea

I wonder if there are other Biblical stories that could use some clarification. Camel through the eye of the needle, for example

Well, that's pretty self-explanatory.
