@El'endiaStarman Actually, I think he was just trying to hold his poop.

@Jas3.1 - hey, wanted to chat about this question. Got time?

Four hexagons around one vertex! ^_^
(That's a tetrahexagonal tiling by the way, or rather the start of one.)

@El'endiaStarman Why is this significant?

That's three hexagons around one vertex.
Any more than that and you can only do a tiling in hyperbolic geometry.
@fredsbend To put it one way, in Euclidean geometry, each vertex of a hexagon is 120 degrees. To have four of them around one point means that's 480 degrees total, but there are only 360 degrees in a full circle. Funny thing about hyperbolic geometry: as you make the hexagons bigger, the angle of each vertex shrinks, and at a certain size, it's 90 degrees.

Q: Bhagavad Gita and views on other religions?

ShantyI love the Bhagavad Gita's take on everything and I am very pro-Krishnaism, however I am slightly confused on the Gita's view on other religions. Does the Gita claim that the "god" described in Christianity, Islam, etc. is ultimately the same in the form of the Supreme Godhead? Is this interpreta...

@El'endiaStarman Sure. What's up?

@El'endiaStarman Do as you must. However, I'd argue that the question should be deleted as well; it amounts to "how can we use the Bible to make my perception seem biblical?" — Jas 3.1 5 hours ago
I don't think that's grounds for deletion. The vast majority of Christians would say that the doctrine of the Trinity is Biblical, but there are some (like @LeeWoofenden) who disagree and say that it is nowhere to be found in the Bible, but rather was created later by theologians.
The site is about what people teach, not what is truth.
Granted, it's an old question and has other problems that will probably lead to it being closed before too long. But I don't think deletion is called for.
@Jas3.1 What do you think? Can you elaborate on why you think the question should be deleted?

@El'endiaStarman What I mean is, there's a difference between asking "How do Trinitarians support the doctrine of the Trinity from Scripture" and asking "What verses could we use to support the idea of the Trinity?"
(pardon my slowness; I'm pecking away on my smartphone)
I meant "closed", not deleted. Sorry.

@Jas3.1 Oh, well that's not so bad. :P But nonetheless, I think that's not a good-enough close reason. It's already got two votes: too broad and primarily opinion based.

@El'endiaStarman Yes, but the former is implied. That's OK. Mike's question sounds more like the latter. It sounds like a brainstorming session to try to find passages to support Mike's preconceived notion.
(fair warning: his question was prompted by a personal debate between us in chat. so there's back-story & baggage there ;-)

@Jas3.1 Ha. I actually just noticed myself a few minutes ago that I also answered the question. I promise there was and is no conflict of interest...

lol

@Jas3.1 Okay, that makes sense. That would be too broad and/or primarily opinion based, both of which I think are valid reasons to close the question.

@El'endiaStarman ciao.

@Jas3.1 Seeya!
I kinda wish there was a way to point to a message without pinging the user. 7 messages up has the id 23102301. Mmm...
#23102310 is in a different chat room. :(

@Tango Indeed it does! Such a sweet, sweet car! It puts my Honda to shame. That's a great pic of you and the car, too.

Q: Should I expand on my answered question or start a new question?

knivezI just posted a question that I may want to expand on if answered, depending on the answer. Should the new questions I have be posed within the current question, or should a new question be posted?

Q: How widespread is panentheism within Protestant schools of thought?

Mr. BultitudeI'm confused about what panentheism is. The Wikipedia article and the few mentions of it here on Stack Exchange both indicate that some Christians identify as panentheists and some don't. I'm guessing it largely comes down to how you define it, but the Oxford English Dictionary has only one defin...

This one might be for you, @Nathaniel.

@Mr.Bultitude It's a good question, but it's also the first I've heard of such a thing. I read it as "pantheism" the first half-dozen times :). If Wikipedia is accurate, that's not particularly surprising, since my exposure to Roman Catholicism and especially Eastern Orthodoxy is comparatively lacking.

@Nathaniel Ah, alright then. I've never heard extensive discussion of it (as I'm sure is obvious from the way I frame the question) but I've seen it come up in various philosophical and apologetic Christian contexts, and I don't remember having the impression that it was particularly wedded to Catholicism or Orthodoxy.
I wonder if @Caleb (who apparently I can't ping right now) would be able to answer it.
Btw @Nathaniel, I'm curious, what state are you from?

@Mr.Bultitude Interesting. I'll definitely see if my more modern sources touch on it; perhaps John Frame mentions it somewhere.
PA

@Nathaniel Cool. I've been part of the EPC for about 20 years of my life, which is almost the whole of my memory. I moved recently (from southeast Michigan to west Michigan) and have been attending a PCA church and absolutely love it. I'm probably moving back soon, and am pondering whether to remain at my EPC church (which I also love) or to try out the PCA church there.
Did you grow up Presbyterian or are you a more recent convert?

11:57 PM
@Mr.Bultitude That's a challenge. It doesn't hurt to check out the PCA, but depending on leadership roles that you are interested in and your view on the ordination of women, the EPC may not be a good long term option
I was non-denominational baptist-y growing up, and moved to the PCA in college
My wife and I checked out an EPC church near us when we moved to our current location, but it felt too close to the mainline for us, so we keep looking and found a PCA that we both liked
There's a big variation in PCA churches as well, so you may find that the other PCA church isn't very similar to what you currently attend
