Q: Has a "chariot army" been found at the bottom of the Red Sea?

FlimzyIt's apparently quite a popular story to "disprove doubting Atheists" regarding the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea by the Israelites during the Exodus of the Hebrew bible that in the late 1970s, archaeological evidence was found at the bottom of the Red Sea of a "chariot army." I first saw i...

@El'endiaStarman I did suggest naming this chat room "debates about words".

@TRiG Congrats on having the two best sexy questions.

@TRiG @El'endiaStarman I know why. Because the topic is sex. People get excited.
> I have noticed after almost every question and answer on this site someone comments to moderate or corral what they are saying. 'This site is a little different' than others, we get it. I'm not sure that this format suits discussion on Christianity all that well. In any case I won't be posting again. Source
I've been trying for a while now to figure out how to explain the difference without pushing them further away, but I can't seem to get it right.
I replied:
@viatori This site is for the academic study of Christianity, the religion, not for personal study for the Christian, the dedicated believer. The site is not meant nor designed to handle question types like this. Instead, it's primary goal is to catalog the beliefs and history of all christianity, past and present. You see, this is a study of description, not proscription. I personally think this question is too broad and a little to opinion based. — fredsbend 22 mins ago
Then I get in return:
Well, let me again apologize for bothering the 'academics'. I will be on my way. — viatori 17 mins ago
Did my comment come off as rude or unhelpful? Maybe it's too wordy.
What if it were:

3:34 PM
@fredsbend Perhaps the last sentence could be 'Instead of attempting to definitively say what is "true" or "right," we describe what different Christians believe to be true or right.'
@fredsbend And that's "its primary goal" :)

3:45 PM
@fredsbend And most of my points come from waffling about linguistics!

4:03 PM
@fredsbend I think some people may be offended by the use of the word "academic" because it could imply something like "only intelligent people are welcome" - of course that is not what you mean, but some might misread is that way

@ThaddeusB Perhaps scholarly, or will that have the same effect?
@Nathaniel I've seen similar wording in others' comments. Let me see if I can integrate that into my own style.
Thanks guys.

6:51 PM
SIXTEEN FLAGS?!? What the heck?!
Oh, half of them are comment flags. That's not too bad.

@El'endiaStarman Probably my fault :)

7:27 PM
@El'endiaStarman You'd get way more per day from me if I didn't have to wait 15 seconds in between each flag.

@fredsbend Only five seconds for comment flags!

8:12 PM
@fredsbend "Scholarly" is probably better, but may still put some people off. That is not necessarily a bad thing though if they really are interested only in what you describe as "personal study of proscription".
I support linking to the "We can't the truth" meta post as well... For a lot of new users, they don't necessarily comprehend how such history there is behind the debate of doctrines and naively think there is a clear "right" answer that no one could disagree with.

8:34 PM
@Nathaniel I think, then, it's 15 seconds between commenting.
Either way, it's too stinking long.

@fredsbend Well, hey, it's nice to not be spam-DDoSed...
How hard would it be to write a script that posts a comment every second?

@El'endiaStarman Sounds like a question for code golf :)

@ThaddeusB I think therein lies the problem. Some people have been Christians for decades and don't even realize that. It's like a culture shock to realize that differing theologies are equally legitimate if you take their assumptions.

@Nathaniel It's not really. Do you frequent that site much?

@El'endiaStarman Easy, but it blocks you, so ...

8:37 PM
@fredsbend Yeah, I realized immediately that of course they would have a block against that too.

@El'endiaStarman No, I've just perused it a bit

So really, 15 seconds is enough to make you actually think about your comments.

@El'endiaStarman If you phrased it like "Post a comment every second with the text "DoS beoch!"
That would be allowed there.
@El'endiaStarman I agree with that wait time.
I'm annoyed at the flag wait time.
@ThaddeusB I've never really liked that post. I don't quite know why.

@fredsbend I don't think it would really be an interesting question.

@El'endiaStarman No, cuz it's too easy.
Plus, I don't think it reaches the comment length minimum.
@El'endiaStarman Anti-chamber is $20 everywhere, but it does sound interesting.

8:44 PM
@fredsbend I'm actually half-considering buying it as a gift for you. I probably won't because I need to be frugal, but still.....
Trackmania, on the other hand, is free and also a game I really like. It's a racing game though.
Specifically, it's Trackmania Nations Forever that's free. (Click the "Trackmania 1 Demo" button.)
I like this video. (Start at 3:00 if you want gameplay.)
I really like the guy's commentary. And that he's doing it while racing. That track looks pretty fun too.
I find it hilarious how he'll just be talking about the game fairly normally and then he messes up and interjects with complaints, then goes right back to commentating.

9:00 PM
@El'endiaStarman Never been a racing game fan.
@El'endiaStarman Frugality be cursed! Gimme your money!

@fredsbend Trackmania is pretty much the only racing game I have, let alone play much of.

I had Test Drive 4 on PS1
It was okay.
Then I also had some ATV game. that was fun.
but it was more than racing.
There's also mario cart and the banicoot equivalents.
I always like those.
I remember road rash being fun too. Probably only because of the violence against other racers.

I might play Mario Kart more if I had it.
Watch this video (from 4:25 on) and tell me that doesn't look super fun.
At around 10 minutes, he ends up playing a track he's played before. It's incredible to see how much smoother and precise he is because of that memory.

9:35 PM
The last one had me crack up a couple times. It was a short track with a couple surprises, so he's narrating..."yeah, some servers hAVE DIFFERENT SKIns that make everything look different" because at that point, he encountered an unexpectedly sharp bend in the track.
