heyy Draco! :D
So, it turns out this guy was not just targeting Adriane.
I have honestly never seen this sort of conduct before. I'll be watching closely tomorrow night once the suspension expires. This is very odd behavior.
I'm very surprised that such a seemingly well-behaved user would suddenly start engaging in stalking behavior...
@JourneymanGeek: Your thoughts on what I can do to help in situations like this? I was AFK when this happened.

@bwDraco nothing much
Most things would make it worse.

Was wondering if a spam/offensive or mod attention flag was the right attention to do here...

I think the gentle caliberated warnings that @DavidPostill did were handy, but at the end of the day, you needed someone who could decide and act on whether enough was enough.

I need to learn to respond in a tempered fashion and not panic when things like this happen. That's why I'm asking here.

@bwDraco If I'd been online, I'd say "ping me once"
or any other mod you know is on channel
and say as little as needed

3:47 AM
So I guess that whenever possible, I should gently nudge the user in the right direction and not panic...

"Hey @journeymangeek, might need your attention"
Sunday mornings tho... ugh.
I was aware of it, but I can't moderate at the dog run XD

Although I'm notably less impulsive than I used to be, I still lack the soft skills you have. Hence, I took this event as a opportunity to learn, even though I wasn't there when it happened ;)
Thanks for your advice and I'll be on the lookout when the suspension expires.

I wouldn't look for/at specific users
I'd try to see things in terms of 'overall room tone'

I'll just be watching for suspicious activity. Didn't realize there was an issue until I looked back at the transcript...

@bwDraco I kinda knew of this cause I fatpawed the SE app and noticed it was going on

3:52 AM
My biggest issue is still a tendency to respond impulsively to issues. One of the skills here is to learn to respond in a controlled fashion when something happens; it's been improving but is not yet anywhere near a ♦ standard.

however mobile sucks, and folks had it enough in control that it wasn't going to explode
so.. it could/did wait

I didn't see an urgent condition, either.
Alright, then. Good night.

6 hours later…
9:44 AM
@JourneymanGeek @bwDraco I had a gut feeling it was going to get out of control. I had to go to bed (it was 3AM), next time I won't announce that ...

lol
@DavidPostill meh, that's precisely why we have multiple room owners. You did the right thing
If I felt that it needed immediate action I would have done so

@JourneymanGeek I didn't realise you had woken up ... and keeping an eye open:)

Oh, that was pretty intentional

Hey guys, I was just in the process of building a NAS with Debian and setting up Samba and so on, and I came across FreeNAS out of nowhere and it looks really promising, does anyone have any experiences or opinions they could share about it?

I was at the dog park a good chunk of the morning
@MattJensJensen wrong channel ;p

9:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek ahh. testing me to see how I would handle it? ;P

@JourneymanGeek Oh sorry mate :)

10:06 AM
@DavidPostill naw. More like you were handling it fine - I was on my phone, and If it was escalating fast enough, I could mod-up, switch over to desktop mode and smack him with a suspension.
I gave the guy his warning between when I came back and lunch. He didn't seem to want to improve his behaviour.
So, not quite a test, more like carefully caliberated laziness timing.

@JourneymanGeek OK. Thanks for the background explanation of what was going on from your side. BTW what are your "normal" sleepy hours?

A good assumption to make is 11 pm - 8 am GMT +8
(taking into account morning walkies)
I usually go to bed later than that, but 11's the earliest

Thanks

10:30 AM
@DavidPostill typically sunday mornings are dog park days (so I'm kinda just poking in periodically) and afternoons I usually game with qux and bob, so if there's an emergency, pinging me works, I'll just switch my second screen to my linux box if needed.
